I agree with this mostly, however I would move Jesse to 1 and then Harwood below Ace. I think Ace has had a very long time on our list and its at the point that if he isn't getting regular games now will he ever? I'd rather the club not keep him on the list next year if they are going to play him for 1-2 games every few weeks because that isn't fair to him. Like most on here I'll wait till later on in the year to see where the club wants to head in regards to delistings.

Out:

Black (Retire)
Cornelius (rookie list)
O’Brien (rookie list)
Wrigley
Newell
Wearden

In:

Round 1 pick
Round 2 pick
Conway (Round 3 pick)
Clarke Round 4 (rookie upgrade)
Round 1 Rookie pick (rookie list)
Tickner Round 2 Rookie pick (rookie list)

The guys on afl 360 tonight reckon luey is gone.... I reckon he is going no where he seems the loyal type to me. I've got no doubt that some big money will be offered by rival clubs. Hopefully he puts pen to paper soon so we can tie up the other players

The guys on afl 360 tonight reckon luey is gone....

I was surprised by Gerard's response to be honest. Usually he is the type that does his research and the like and if he did, I think it would have been a resounding 'staying', but the ignorance of the Vic media in relation to our club still surprises me.

Unless Gerard knows something we don't, one read of a recent article would pretty much have altered his opinion.

The group think amongst Football media is sickening. On what were they basing this opinion? Leuie's recent comments stating how much he loves it here? Rob Kerr suggesting that he anticipated the deals with Leuie and Rich to be finalized within the month? Or a couple of bullshit articles with it being "understood" that "People close to the Lions" "rival clubs circling", etc. etc.

Can't wait until Leuenberger and Rich sign and we start winning a few more games to shut these parrots up.

Relax bro.

In regards to comments about Beams, I think it's helpful to remember that he signed a two year deal last year so is contracted until the end of next season. Rare for a contracted player to be traded. Unheard of for a contracted player with a current ACL injury to be traded. He'll be fine.

I agree that Harwood isn't very safe at all. Still think he'll stay at least one more year though.

For mine, Banfield, Wrigley, Cornelius, Black, O'Brien and McKeever will no longer be at the club next year. Wearden was showing some good signs in the reserves and is a young third tall in defence type which is a gap on the list so I think he'll stick around. Newell is certainly up in the air too, but he's got himself in the bests a few times in the reserves so haven't given up hope.

On the others (Banners, Ace and JOB), it wouldn't shock me for any of them to crack a senior spot and then hold it and play the whole second half of the season before signing a two or three year deal. Green was the one last year who I would've classed in a similar category to those three (although a little younger, obviously), but he got his way into the side and then pretty much cemented his spot for the rest of the season. All three I mentioned are capable of doing that I reckon.

Going somewhere in particular, or just going?

Talking about possible delistings, where does Crisp fit in the grand scheme of things? He hasn't played at all this year, though has been listed as an emergency. Possible delisting? Or safe in the side?

People have mentioned Beams, Harwood and McKeever as possible delistings, all of whom have had a few runs in the seniors so far this season.

Remember that our Senior List this year had 39 players in it - the vacant 40th position went to Justin Clarke as nominated rookie before Round 1.

Next year with Brown and McGrath both eligible to be on the veteran's list, we can have 40 players on the senior list if we choose, hence an extra list spot if needed.

They changed the veterans list's workings this year or last year. Instead of having the concept of veterans outside the list, now they let clubs choose how many senior spots they have - from 38 to 40 - with a corresponding increase or decrease in the number of rookie spots they have. Then at the start of the year the club can choose to promote a number of rookies to bring them up to that 40 senior spots.

Yep that's correct, for number purposes veterans are included as part of the main list, however $100K of their salary can be excluded from the salary cap. (there are some transitional arrangements for existing contracts for veterans)

Going somewhere in particular, or just going?

Just going...Robbo didn't say anything, it was Gerard who said Leuey was going due to the money on offer being too hard to ignore/pass up.

Gerard's view was based on nothing, or at least he didn't substantiate it anyway.

I personally thought it was pretty naive of Gerard to be honest. There have been enough noises from Leuey and recent artciles to suggest he is not going anywhere and Gerard failed to acknowledge any of that. IMO and surprisingly, it was lazy journalism on Gerard's part.

Dean Warren said this earlier today:

Meanwhile Warren said contract negotiations surrounding key trio Rich, Matthew Leuenberger and Pearce Hanley were coming along well and the Lions were confident of retaining all three.

"We've met with Paul Connors for those three in particular and the negotiations have commenced and we're working through it," he said.

"Absolutely we're confident. They're key members of our team and we want to keep them and they've shown every indication they want to stay.

"Hopefully it won't be too far away."

Gerard's reasoning came down to money largely. He conveniently ignored that we will pretty much have as much money to spend next year as anyone. So a complete lack of research there by him which was disappointing considering he is usually better than that.

I had a dream last night that we took Blake Acres with our 1st pick. I don't know anything about him.

Surprisingly enough, his in my phantom draft. Don't recall seeing him mentioned anywhere.

Blake Acres – Utility – (188cm/83kg)
One who could bolt as we get closer to the draft. He can play down back, forward or in the midfield. He has very good skills and a big body to come in from day one. Good overhead mark and can impact the scoreboard. One to watch.

Would we be happy if we swapped longer for jack watts? I think longer Is going to be good for us but we have luey.
Watts could potentially fill the void left by brown dog..... I think it is something that could be discussed. But who in their right minds would willingly go to the dees?

Jack Watts will never be that big strong power forward that Brown is. Watts might be a decent 30-40 goal a year CHF, decent third tall forward and loose man down back.

No way would we trade Longer for Watts. If Gubby Allen was our list manager, then it's a different story.

Longer for Watts... Melbourne would wet themselves with excitement. Why would we ever do that trade. We might as well hang ourselves and fold as a club.
I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea either but I reckon watts will blossom at a decent club and we already have moloney and Martin.... I think we will be canvassing all options at securing a power forward.
We won't get buddy.. Any other players you think we might be interested in ?

Maybe I was too generous with longer to watts , what about patty k for watts? That's probably more reflective of watts worth at the moment... I think if pattyk doesn't establish himself this year he is gonski anyway

That was the reason I remembered about the dream I had I saw his name on your phantom. I don't have a clue who he is.
