List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

I originally made the claim in this thread so let me clarify what I meant. It seems people think FB automatically means inaccurate. You can kick flourbags and still be accurate. What I mean by flower bags is that up and down arc the ball travels from boot to recieving player, almost as if the ball is rolling up a hill and down again. As opposed to some players who can deliver those long straight low passes. Clancee, as I stated, generally hits the target (said the same thing about pickett) but has a flourbag kicking style. Especially when he's kicking long. I don't ever recall seeing Clancee kicking a long flat pass, but do remember long 'up and down' type kicks. Still hitting the target, but the ball travels in an arc, not in a straight line.

I think you see his strange ball drop and think "bad kick"
He is a very good kick and kicks em low and hard.

My money is on Geelong drafting Pickett, I feel like they must have jumped ahead of West Coast for a reason.

I agree Chris. Geelong lost Christensen and Varcoe. Pickett is exactly the player they need to replace them and WC would have taken him so that they wanted to jump the gun on them. So will WC settle for Garlett instead with their first pick or would that be too much of a reach versus best available.

Okay, I'm assuming counting bodies like sheep has now copped enough of a pasting to be immediately repentant of his views on Clancee's kicking. Either that or our collective power of persuasion sucks...

So moving on, I wonder if we'll look to place any of the recent delistings on the permission to train list?

Didn't someone post a few months ago a bit of a study into Clanger rates for all our player the last couple of years? End result was that Clancee pretty much the most efficient kicker in the team?

Something like that. There are a couple of tables in this page...

Doesn't specifically relate to kicks... more about general disposal, but Clancee kicks the ball quite a bit from memory, so it's probably not that far off.

Any player kicking for distance gets a fair bit of height. It is just physics. I like Clancee's kicking style. He is one of the better kicks in the team. He can kick long or spear in a bullet pass (not many can do both at once - Hill maybe).

The most annoying for loopy flour-bag kicks is Danyle. He definitely tends to put a lot more height onto them than he needs to, giving defenders ample opportunity to meander into the drop-zone.

My wants for pick 13.. Goddard, Degoey, Lamb.. in that order
My wants for 34 Clem Smith, Ryan Lim, Brendon Abbott
After that they can please themselves

Ah yes, the good old days. When we could look at the top 5 and go "which one do we want?"
The good old days for me was watching blokes like Dodd, Schammer and Murphy get a game on a regular basis. Also watching the transition from old blokes like Bell, McManus, Carr and Headland to young blokes in Hill, De Boer, Walters and Fyfe.

Lol. Maybe I have a few shockers burnt in my memory, I just don't see his kicking as great, and like I said in my original post, "rubbish kick" was harsh. I don't mind him as a player all in all, I just never saw his kicking as a strength... One other poster hit the nail, it's probably more his decision making with his kicking that's been the issue rather than the mechanics itself. Hopefully he can break back into the team in 2015

I love the look of Caleb Daniel, mighty talented. His highlights video is a pleasure to watch, unfortunately he is so so small, I hope we get him.
I saw him do quite a few nice things when I watched South play. I'd be happy if we pick him up, even happier if we picked up his teammate Eddy.

Wouldn't that be great if Geelong grab Pickett. West Coast go into a tailspin and immediately default to pick the most vanilla, slow, medium weight WA kid in the draft.

Looking through this thread makes me look forward to the next "Who the **** is Lachie Neale" comment when we pick up someone from totally left field. :D

We should make a competition of it - see who can nail our picks, and the one that is chosen correctly that is furtherest from his estimated draft position is the winner
