I have a good feeling about the youngsters we have picked up in the last couple of drafts. They may go a long way to fixing up the quality issues we have across the park - turn a few C grade spots into B or A graders.

One dominating, young KPF is what we need to take the next step up. Watson is young and can definitely play. Henderson will give us years of service still, Jamo isnt going anywhere in the next few seasons either. One J. Patton style forward for us will make a massive difference. A key back would be icing, but the cake would still be very good without it.

No trolling here, just coming over for a friendly chat.

I'm a very passionate Dogs supporter and football supporter in General who has been watching the game for 30 years. I have a few close mates who are passionate Carlton supporters, and we've had a few chats over the last 12 months, and I want to add a bit of what we've been discussing here.

I think there's been some similarities in the Dogs and Carlton lists overs the last 6 years. The first similarity is the fact we both are screaming out for a key tall forward. My Blues mates and I are very bewildered why the Dogs and Carlton did not chase Jesse White in the draft! I think we all know both clubs could benefit from him.

Since Fev has left the club, they haven't replaced him, and it shocks me why they don't. A lot of you guys would agree that Waite can't get on the park enough, Casboult isn't up to it and ideally with Henderson, you'd like to have two of him. One forward and one back!

Everitt isn't a bad tall swingman, but I believe his best position is on the wing where he had a good year in 09 or 2010 at the Dogs. I don't think he's the answer you guys are looking for to be honest! I thought the first thing that Mick would do when he got to the club, was trade for a full forward!

Lucas spent 2 years recovering from an injury that should have been sorted out in 6 weeks. Our clubs development of young quality players and our rehabilitation of injured players over the past 6-7 years has been absolutely shite. I want to know who the fool was that said that it was a good idea to bring Laidler back 4 weeks after his knee injury?

Would not be against playing Giles at some stage, actually think that giving him a run up forward and allowing him to push up the ground a bit may be worth a crack. This kids got loads of ability, might struggle for strength in defense unless we allow him good match-ups but the kid can play.

I'm still thinking that Watson should be given an extended run at CHF, we've played worse there! I think his size and kicking may be something we'd value up there and it wouldn't expose his defensive weaknesses.

Really hope Buckley takes to that backline role, I feel we'd be better if Walker played Midfield/forward.

McInness may make it but he's not strong enough yet. White should be playing instead. McInness needs to play VFL and learn to get more of the ball and provide run and an option coming out of defence and to work on his fitness.

Menzel is going to be a good player, just looks to be struggling with the running side of playing more midfield, probably start to see him come on next season as this improves. Seems to have a will to work hard, he often looks buggered. Would stick with him playing midfield and forward for now but some times in defence would be worth wile as he has all the tools to be able to play as an attacking half back and would be good education.

Gibbs needs to play in close and be our main rover, every one is going to go to Judd and Murphy, Gibbs has the size, skills and from what I have seen, the ability to play in close. Good at getting his arms free.

Not sure why Rowe didn't start round 1 at CHB, Westhoff would have been the perfect matchup there. We got that wrong. We could have done with Henderson up forward. Rowe isn't a star but he may be able to fill a role.

Holman, I wonder how he'd go on a wing in the seniors for a game or two.

Really think we need to assess where our midfield is at next season and make some tough decisions. We may be in a situation where trading aggressively, obtaining extra draft picks and playing the kids is the right thing to do.

I don't ever feel real comfortable about going into a draft and picking a heap of talls like we did in 2010 but that's exactly what we need to do. I think we need to obtain extra draft picks so we can also grab some midfield types as well. I think if we could get second or third round picks for a guy like Robbo or Warnock then maybe we should be going with that. 5 or 6 picks in the first three rounds would be nice, grab a few talls and mids and go from there.

Agree with most of your post, except the above. The modern CHF needs to be mobile, push up the ground, turn on his opponent etc. You see it in Henderson in both his roles, Darling, Le Cras, Cameron. Watson has a beautiful kick, but the turning circle of a rubbish truck. I reckon he needs to lose some kegs and get more agile in the next pre-season. It might not help us as a forward, but he needs it to go toe-to-toe with his man.

Yup. We need to trade out someone we love unfortunately.

In three years it is prophesied that GC and GWS will rule the earth.

Depending on what happens this year, if we do go down the rebelling path, it's not the worst time to do so. For the first time in years, GC or GWS won't have a monopoly on the draft. Teams that have been trying to rebuild recently have been on the back foot given the free hits GWS & GC have been given.

These type of decisions do not reflect a club looking to rebuild.

We need to be extremely aggressive if we want to land a big key forward in a trade at the end of the year.

I think a traditional trade for a KPF would be impossible to pull off...we don't have a lot of cattle to trade, least not that will yield the player we need.

Gibbs going home is the only way I can see us landing a KPF. He either frees up the cap room for us to chase someone via free agancy, or yields a high compensation pick to on-trade.

Or we take our medicine, keep the pick and go to the draft in a supposedly KPP rich year with a couple of earlyish picks. Maybe still have the cap space to find a reasonable fringe dweller. I like plan C

Need to stop worring about premiership windows and start concerning ourselves with putting a great list together.

These type of decisions do not reflect a club looking to rebuild.

Rebuilding doesn't mean getting rid of all players at the club over X years of age.

Every club - be it one rebuilding or challenging for a flag - needs a mix of players across all age groups.

Going in too young is very dangerous and can have serious negative effects on the club - look at what has happened at Melbourne as a prime example of that. They got rid of the vast majority of their experienced players - how successful has that been for them?

Look at the Western Bulldogs as an example. They've been rebuilding for a few years now with a strong emphasis on bringing the kids through....but the likes of Murphy, Morris, Giansiracusa, Boyd etc. all still have a significant role to play.
