It certainly gives an encouraging perspective. If we land McCarthy and Fyfe plays forward that is a very good foundation down forward.
Add Bennell and bring in Weller, Blakely, Langdon around and carrying the ball and suddenly we have some additional pace and class in the midfield.
Grey, A Pearce and possibly Hughes (a real wildcard in terms of our halfbacks) and the back 6 becomes more dynamic and versatile.
Its an intriguing scenario.
The real doubt for me lies in if Lyon has the imagination and the brass to relegate his preferred cannon fodder to backup positions. The above scenario means demoting Suban, DeBoer, C Pearce, Mzungu, Mayne and possibly Ballantyne and Barlow to reserves. Its bold and daring.
For me I'd be happy to see all those guys out of the team. Mayne particularly has had the goldenest of golden tickets for 2 years and has failed every time when it counts. Ballantyne has some form in big games and is not quite done with yet. Barlow unless you play him around clearances doesn't offer enough but his nous and temperament means he can still offer something. The rest just aren't good enough.
If we line up with Suban, DeBoer, Mayne and co for round 1 next year then that is the definition of insanity - doing the same over and over and expecting a different result.
The other thing for Ballantyne is the complete havoc he could create.
You stick McCarthy in and rotate Fyfe and Bennell our of the forward line with Walters, Ballantyne all of a sudden becomes the least of any defence's problems...he could actually become Eddy Betts levels dangerous
