So in Adelaide for the week .....bored, so watching 2010 game Crows v Essendon

5 years ago ......but when you reflect on the side these names all in that 2010 side:
Tippett
Walker
Dangerfield
Goodwin
Thompson
Davis
Johncock
Sloane
Porplyzia
Douglas
Vince

Gee .....what could have been

Pittard was pick 16. Butcher and Moore went at 8 and 9. In our defence, with a few notable exceptions (Talia being one of them) 2009 was a pretty shitty draft.
You passed on Nat Fyfe three times.

Do you reckon it was ports strategy ' to bottom out? You would never pick the time of expansion clubs coming in the do it. No, your club was in chaotic free fall and has been saved by first round draft picks and some good trading. N whether bottoming out is necessary to win a flag, Id saying no but probably increases likelihood
It's not a crows v Port question. Which team has drafted as well as Adelaide in the last 10 years relative to draft position?
In any case don't want to get in an argument, all the best and Merry Christmas.

Your recent drafting with really low picks has been very good, but it's hard to get them wrong.

But apart from that your drafting has been average. Young, Newton, Shaw, Jacobs, Moore, Butcher and Harvey are all duds.

Your trading has been excellent which has saved you.
Yes very impressed with our trading. Shaw showed promise but sadly beset by repeated injuries. You obviously have no duds? Noble and co have done pretty well though, I'll credit them that, but if you're unable to keep them it's alls bit wasted.

You keep saying this... but we haven't lost any more player than every other club in the league (barring GCS). Maybe less spuds though.

Exactly, it's the quality of the players that you have lost which I agree would be frustrating hen your recruiters have been good at identifying talent.

I'm sure being a port supporter you probably won't agree but us losing players really didn't have anything major to do with our clubs culture etc. we had a big exodus due to expansion clubs and since then it's been a normal amount of players coming and going. Because of the exodus in the expansion club years it makes it look way worse than it really is.
Guys like Bock and Davis all left for money and there is nothing any club can do about that other than match and we were never gonna pay that.
Tippet left due to not wanting to live in Adelaide. It would have been the same if he played for Port.
Gunston wanted to play for the Hawks and would have moved if he had played for a Vic based club as stated by himself at the time.
The only other notable player is Dangerfield. He loved to club but it ultimately came down to him loving home and family even more. And your absolutely kidding yourself if you think Ports culture etc would have kept him at your club if he was playing for you guys.

And when you actually look at how those players have performed since leaving the only real loss has been Gunstan. Dangerfield we will see, but I'm sure it will be a loss if he starts hitting targets.

Where exactly did I knock your culture? I wouldn't do that as the mods will be down on me like a ton of bricks. Was really only stating facts. You have been a bit unlucky I agree. I am hoping we can keep our players together for a chance at a GF appearance in the next 2 or 3 years, but obviously eventually we will lose someone that we don't want to.

Agree Moore and Butch didn't live up to expectations however I still have some faith that Butch can come through for us plus we have done well in other drafts and some aggressive trading to have now assembled a pretty decent side. Was a shame we bottomed out at the wrong time unlike Hawks who did the opposite. If we don't make finals next year we are wasteful with our talent.

Thanks for confirming what I already thought about you ;)

You sir are the epitome of the supreme optimists....

Yeah but when Tippett played for the Crows he was shit, when Gunston played for the crows he was a pea-hearted spud etc etc. Your supporter base conveniently recognises the talent of our players only once they're not wearing the tri-colours.

Port supporter my whole life actually. Magpies first and then Power too. The only crows supporters who can say that are 26 or under.

If this was true of Tippett then why did Trigg and co do what they did to appease you all and try to keep him a bit longer? Serious question, not trying to be rude.

I hate to be technical but I’m 28 and can say that and I'm sure I'm not the only one;).

Started following and getting into the AFC as a little fella when I was 4 in 1991. My parents aren’t sporty at all but saw I was and encouraged this via Aussie Rules and the AFC. Never had any kind of real connection to an SANFL team via family so my beloved AFC is all I’ve ever known:).

All good.

No I didn't say you did I just said that most Port people put it down to that. I would be surprised if anyone leaves port with the way they are going about it.
