...that's really it, isn't it? Carlton are about to try to prove Craig right, five years after the last time it didn't work, with inferior playing stock.

"it will end in tears"

I feel sorry for their supporters. They love the words coming from Trigg and believe they're finally on the right track.

True Massie on Buddy was not what cost us the game.

What cost us was Clarko making changes and stubborn Craigy backing in his players and game plan and.just expecting us to "work harder" over countering Clarko's moves. Another current AFL coach has this mantra.

Craigy is a great teacher and prepares his players well to carry out his game plan. But making "on the fly" changes was foreign to him. Is th reason we played like "Crowbots" under him. Is also (IMO) a reason why guys like VB and Mackay have struggled in their roles post Craigy as their development as young players took place in a very rigid system.

Agree. Who is the other current coach with this mantra?

Under the rules accompanying their entrance to the competition, the Giants were able to sign 12 players born in the first four months of 1993, removing them from the 2011 draft pool. Before them, Gold Coast had access to 12 teenagers born in early 1992

The Suns could have taken Brodie Smith or Ben Jacobs, both of whom went on to become first-round draft picks the next year. Aaron Mullett was taken by North Melbourne as a rookie, while Jordan Murdoch came on the following year and was drafted by Geelong as a 19-year-old.

Sam Kerridge, Jackson Merrett, Joel Hamling, Jack Newnes, Michael Talia and Cameron Ellis-Yomen are the best of the group that could have become Giants, but for various reasons made it through to the 2011 draft where they were chosen by other clubs. Not all good players have emerged by the age of 17.

Of course that move cost us the match and stop trying to sell the lie that Craig was a great teacher.

One match up does not cost a game. As others have said we had free men in our backline that did not cover the right space. We would have still won the game had Thommo not kicked it out of bounds.

When you hear any player he coached, including guys I know who played under him at Norwood, the common theme is always great teacher but poor at tactics and handling things that happen beyond his control Hence he was pretty much always outcoached in Finals as great coaches are more creative in September.

He was not a great coach, but was good at drilling into players what their roles were and what they had to do. It all fell apart when our players had to something beyond that, ie we were Crowbots.

Massie on Franklin is a great example of his stubborness and lack of want (or know how to) change things around, but we could have won if he only kicked 6.2.

Two questions.

When did you last watch this match?

Do you want me to send you a copy?

If you insist on talking bullshit then I will watch the replay again tonight and document who was standing who for everyone of their forward entries.
I find myself agreeing with a number of your points but your defence of Craig has always puzzled me. Why do you do it?

Don't be so ****ing silly. Of course it does. Just like letting Robert Harvey run free in 2005 cost us; and putting Rowan Smith on Robran and Jamie Shanaghan on Darren Jarman cost matches

Arguing a bad match up doesn't cost games is up there with arguing you don't 6 points for a goal.

Of course it does.

Er no. our junior development was poor under him, so how was he a great teacher? He had the most impact and influence with senior members of the squad not the young blokes

This is starting to feel like arguing Facebook memes

Do you really not understand the difference between getting away with something and it being dumb in the first place? Cmon.

When you drive down sth rd you get a good idea of why Sloaney stayed in Adelaide - big fish in a little pond.

Oh I get it, because the expectations were so high, but the reality was underwhelming. Toumpas's career mirrors port adelaide's season.
As long as his career doesn't represent ports 2013/14 comeback.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-07-29/walker-thanks-craig-for-tough-love

ADELAIDE skipper Taylor Walker has expressed his gratitude to former Crows coach Neil Craig for being hard on him early in his career.

The Crows skipper will play his 100th senior game on Saturday against the Sydney Swans, and has long been a lock in the club's best 22.

But it wasn't always that way.

Walker struggled to cement a place in the side early on his career, with Craig dropping him to the SANFL on numerous occasions to work on his defensive game.

Walker said while the treatment was annoying at the time, in hindsight he thanked the coach for teaching him valuable lessons.

"He was always onto me about my defensive sort of stuff, and I think I've got it to a level now where it's consistent," Walker said.

"At the time you think 'why can't I just play' because that's what you want to do, but now you look back and think it's a great learning curve.
