Let's get the academy picks sorted before we go any further.

I have not yet got my head around the points system so will defer to someone who has, but we know there will be a few early bids on these academy boys.

The only one bid on here thus far has been by Blugazi who bid on Hopper without providing Blue__Balls with an opportunity to match that bid before proceeding. Odds are yes it would have been but if we're going down the bidding path....let's do it properly.

Happy to help with the Academy calculations, mate.

Pick 4 is now owned by GWS, and Jacob Hopper is selected.
Picks 5 + 6 are now owned by Essendon (Parish + Curnow).
Pick 7 Gold Coast (Milera).
Pick 8 Melbourne (McKay)
Pick 9 Carlton.
Pick 10 Adelaide.
Pick 11-33 unchanged.

GWS's Pick 34 moves back to Pick 48, and everyone currently between 35 and 48 moves up one place.

Just pick Weideman Jeremias you know you want to ;)

Pick one was fairly straight forward but it has already become quite difficult at this juncture, despite still being relatively early.

We won't select a player based on the position they play here (or anywhere else in the first round), but I am drawn to the big forward at this pick.

We do need a forward but having lost so much through the middle of the ground, no doubt midfield depth will be high on the agenda as well.

Not knowing Player A from Player B other than what I see on very limited viewing, it becomes more palatable to select based on perceived needs rather than on who projects as the best player.

With that in mind I'm going with the key forward. Schache, Curnow and McKay are all gone which leaves Weideman as the next cab off the rank. Most seem to think he'll be gone by the time this pick comes around, so I'll take him and look to bolster the midfield over the next couple of selections.

Pick 10: Carlton - Sam Weideman

Coona Blues

Adelaide in need of some elite midfield talent to offset the loss of Dangerfield.
Some supporters stating the need for another KPF, however Tex, Jenkins and Lynch likely
to form a combo for a few years ye.t Mitch McGovern and Harry Dear developing and have
picked up vaunted young KPP turned cricketer Alex Keath as a Cat B rookie.
Greatest need for a mid and the best "available" is Matthew Kennedy. 187cm, can take a grab,
kick a goal, a yard slower than Danger, but the same predominantly inside traits.

Adelaide therefore bids on academy prospect Matthew Kennedy.

Over to Blue_Balls to match or otherwise.

I'll match the bid for Kennedy at Pick 11, using Picks 34, 41 and moving 52 back to 61.

OK we are almost back on track, for the continuity of the exercise I will not bid on Keays who I rate as the
next best midfielder.

Adelaide
12. Clayton Oliver (VIC – MID)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 22/07/1997
Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers

Stoppage specialist meeting the modern profile of big-bodied midfielder.
Hits the scoreboard and tested well at the combine. After missing out earlier in
his junior career, his focus and work rate resulted in a late season surge up the
junior rankings elevating him up the draft order.

Not sure about this "tagging", but back to Jeremias.

If you don't, I will.

I'll put in a bid here for Keays who most project to go somewhere in the middle of the first round.

We of course have our own interests with the bidding process and may not want to push other clubs too much on draft day lest it come back to bite us, but I have no qualms about doing so for this exercise.

Someone will bid around this mark and so it may as well be me here. Brisbane will no doubt match a bid on draft day but for now it is over to THE_GUN to match or otherwise.

Thanks for tagging me here jeremias

Brisbane will Certainly match this bid and Select Ben Keays as

Pick #13 Brisbane - Ben Keays (QLD – BRISBANE ACADEMY – MID/FWD)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 82.3kg, DOB: 23/02/1997
Recruited from: Brisbane Lions

Will provide more of a write up later when I have a minute but with this pick I'll select Rhys Mathieson.

Have a 'favourite' of mine still on the draft board but can't go past Mathieson here who many believe will be a top 10 selection come draft day.

With Judd, Carrazzo & Bell now gone we've lost a fair bit of grunt through the middle of the ground heading into next year. Kerridge will help there but clearly we need to bolster that department even further - Mathieson won't necessarily be able to do so straight away but long-term he projects as a bull at senior level which will certainly come in handy.

Disposal is one query on him which may prevent us from taking him on the day but does sound like a very good inside prospect regardless.
