Pick 15: Richmond

We're absolutely fantastic down at Richmond. Superstars on every line, I'm actually surprised we've even bothered turning up for the draft this year. They might as well give us the premiership next year, or in 2017 at the very least. Maybe both. Is a three peat in the offering?

So with that in mind we're going to have the shortest of possible views. We need inside midfielders and we think we've found one. This guy's not only ready made, he wins his own ball and, in a secret we've kept from other clubs, he's actually the Where's Wally champion of Australia so he'll be fantastic at getting the ball to our captain when we play our final next year.

Pick 15: Josh Dunkley
Inside Midfielder with the ability to get under packs and dish the ball out to better uses. Ready made and will go straight into the guts.

Are we treating him as a father son or as a normal player?

Nice pick, I'd have liked Jeremias to take him over Mathieson tbh.

Nice pick - reckon he's on the open market, we haven't heard otherwise yet. Too bad, Sydney :p

OK Adelaide grabbed a mid with first pick, plenty of options for next one, but no absolute stand out
considering the SA locals, but in fairness for list balance going to make a bid for
Brisbane Academy KPP swingman Eric Hipwood.

Supporters calling for KPF, suggestion of needing to upgrade from Hartigan in defence. A 200 cm guy
who could pinch hit in the ruck as a foil for Sauce Jacobs.

THE_GUN
your option to match.
(This should alleviate the academy bidding scenario for a while)

Nice, if you didn't do it I would have

**** I would love it if the actual draft went like this - people just jumping in and GWS/Brisbane screaming out about matching bids.

Ol' Gill then comes OTT with a reference to Monopoly rules: "You can't bid once the next person has already taken their turn, GWS. And stop stealing money from the bank - we can all see you doing it!"

GWS then crack the shits and list all the players they will match bids with by posting to Twitter and Facebook, calling dibs.

ShanDog throws a half eaten 'yiros' from the second tier of the convention centre at the Essendon camp and points to the Hawks. Fight starts.

Best. Draft. Ever.

Actually, now that I think about it, I am almost exactly the same size as Weitering (probably a little heavier-set), dark hair and similar features (but much better looking of course).... I'm totally going to pull a Max Walker. Stuff him in a locker somewhere, steal his pass, walk up on stage when his name is called and accept the jumper. Depending on how big the stage/arena is, I could get away with it.

What if he goes to Essendon?

I'd like to think that the Draft Night may become reminiscent of the Roman Senate - a room full of old blokes shouting and throwing fruit at one another, then a bunch of them crack the sads and stab Dodoro a few dozen times.

The more I see of this points system, the more I respect how Brisbane have gone about it this year.

They've ended up with Picks 38-42 consecutively, and with a couple of mid-range Academy kids, they just keep re-using picks 38 and 39 to pay for them. 38 moves up, 39 moves way back, but 40-42 move up anyway. They're essentially getting to use their last few picks in that cluster, but at the points values of the first few.

Clever bastards.

Good pick and agree with your opinion on the entire post :p

Personally i would have liked Callum Ah Chee

One of the things I don't understand is why Sydney have not confirmed a F/S bid for Dunkley. Granted he has had injury worries this year, stress fractures in the back, but he was playing at the end of the season and apparently had got over his problems. had it been me, I would have nominated him.

I haven't, as Sydney hasn't to this point. But it strikes me as not smart.

It's his call, not theirs.

Talk is that maybe he thinks he'll have a better chance of making it if he puts himself on the open market. May not see a heap of game-time at Sydney, whereas if he got picked up by a Richmond or St Kilda he could potentially be fighting for a spot in his first year.

I understand his thoughts: Sydney do have a number of mids for him to compete with. And Dunkley's kicking is not a strength. However, if I were Sydney I would have sown him up by now. It just isn't smart to leave good player free to go to other homes.
Whatever way it really happens, I think Sydney have erred.
In this case, Richmond is a winner. With Dunkley and Townsend they have more grunt in their midfield.

All I can say is that I hope to hell that Ultimate Footy don't implement a points system in their draft set-up next season. Going by past experiences, I wouldn't have a full team until the start of the multi-bye rounds...
