Joel Selwood
2013:
Contested Possessions 48.8% - Disposal Efficiency 77.1% - TOG% 83.7%

2014:
Contested Possessions 50.4% - Disposal Efficiency 76.2% - TOG% 86.1%

Make of this what you will.
Happy to be proven wrong, personally I'll still take Pendlebury but Selwood does compare very well. Perhaps the slightly higher average is due to SC's clutch scoring bonus thingo

So you could potentially start without Ablett, Rocky, Selwood or Pendles. That would be an interesting way to start off the year.

Potentially yes
likely no
gaj is gaj
others i can certainly entertain no starting with

Think it's fair to say Ablett, Rocky, Fyfe, Selwood, Pendles are the SC 'Big 5'. Starting with only one of them is a huge risk, I think you need 3 at least from the start.
2 Yes.
3 maybe
think theres a few who.mite sneak into that top 5.
real question is...how many will hold value, how many will drop?

I don't think holding/dropping value really matters much when selecting a keeper who will be in your side the whole season. Eg. If Gaz drops to 650k, you'll need to burn a trade to get him in. Is a trade worth the 85k drop? I don't think so, especially when you factor in how many points you'll lose out. And this is a big if, every chance Gaz won't drop to 650k. I also have a feeling those who start without Rockliff will regret it. Of the 5, I'm thinking of starting with Gaz, Rocky & Fyfe.

Also, to break into that top 5 somebody will need to average 120+. It's very rare that a player averages over 120. Even Judd only did it once, Danger's best so far is 118, Watson 120 in his brownlow year. The guns that improve might average around 110-115 but I'd be surprised if any break 120.

The points thingbis very relative tho
say fwiw
gaj 140 versus fyfe 130
the harbrow 85 versus bsmith 100
points wise your in front
then theres captain choice i know and $$$$ fluctuations etc to consider.
I am convinced rocky is overpriced fwiw

At those prices you would expect all of them to drop at some point, Rockliff for mine is the one that will drop down and stay down, Ablett could drop down to meet the others, but the 650K mark for all of those guys seem about what to expect them to be worth near years end.

Trying to pick when each one will bottom out is like trying to pick the high point on the currency exchange. It's luck.

But I do agree that they wont be the top 5 again this year, one or more will drop out, a combination of a slight dip by one of the 5, and a stellar year from some other guys, and things will change.

I'll start with 4 of the 5.

The other question is, how many points will you miss out waiting for them to drop in price. Those waiting for a drop in GAJ last year waited 10 odd rounds before biting the bullet.

3 of the 5 would be the most for me, the top 5 has had 2 new faces for the last 4 years, no reason why it wouldn't be the same this year.

Well getting Ablett isn't an extra trade because when you get him in you would be upgrading a rookie to a premium anyway

Plus there is a good chance if you have him you will have to trade him out at some stage anyway.

Also, how many people held onto him for a couple of games last year, that was purely wasted.

Treloar vs Ward.

Ward was very good last year, was consistent compared to Treloar. I think Trelaor has the bigger ceiling, but I don't like the idea of a premium potentially scoring 70's.

Steven Motlop vs Tom Mitchell?

Neither.

Motlop is frustrating, at his best he can preform but he is up and down, and is one of those player you end up being stuck with because every time you decide to trade him he will pull out a good score so you keep him.

Mitchell is still on the fringe of Sydneys midfield, which is where he will need to play to increase his output.

If I had to choose I would go Motlop, the loss of Christensen may just give him more time in the middle, but i'm not convinced about that, and at least he is guaranteed plenty of minutes when fit.
