Newnes will be the 2015 Webster.
Webster will be this years Webster.

Webster was only in his second year last year with 11 games under his belt, bit unfair to put that expectation on him. He was only an option for people because of his price.

Newnes is primed, 4th year, 47 games coming off a big improvement in last year. Much better option than Webster last year.

At $400k plus, no thanks. Much better value picks all over the place.

Not that much.

If you go up in price then there is, but you can drop the price by a 100K your not going to get much better value. All risk vs. reward options, and the lower you go the higher the risk.

The reason I like Newnes is he seems to be a safe balance between risk and reward, if you drop to say KK, Docherty, Rampe, Savage, Mayes, Fasolo and Seedsman, but the risk is higher.

Each to their own, I guess.

As 3rd Forward, Steven Motlop ($430K) or Marcus Bontempelli ($420K)?

Neither, better to go with Mitchell, Wingard (if fit for round 1) or Swan.

Motlop will frustrate too much, switching between forward and mid roles see's his scores fluctuate. Can't see that changing to much this year.

Bonts is a good chance to be one of the few second year players to step up rather than suffer second year blues. But even if he does, he will not average above 100, so there isn't much point in taking him at that price if he isn't going to get to that level.

Plenty of people will disagree with me on Bonts, but you always have to be wary of second year players.

Wrong. Bontempelli will average 170.

Bontempelli seems to be one who creates a lot of discussion. This year will still be a developing year of sorts for him, and I expect him to be thrown around the ground a bit, which could detract from his scoring ability. He won't have the massive second year blues, it's a chance, but it won't be crazy bad.

I can agree with that, not expecting him to take a backwards step, has done everything right this preseason so he should continue to improve. But at 422K you are really expecting him to be a keeper, but I just dont see him going above maybe 90. Where as Wingard (pending midfield time), Mitchell (pending selection) and Swan (pending Swan) all present a much higher upside at a similar price.

And that's the problem we just don't know whether Wingard will get midfield time (if last year is anything to go by probably not) or whether Mitchell gets a guernsey. At least we know what position Bonts will be playing and he's guaranteed a spot. I already have Swan, and currently have Bonts ahead of both of the others.

I have Swan and Mitchell, but will wait and see how they all line up over NAB cup and round 1.

I've got 5 guys over 400K in the forward line, so dropping one out and picking up another mid or balancing out my defense isn't a problem for me.

Watson and Looney burger

versus

NicNat and Jack Stevens

All 3 capable of 110+, Loony only had one year of just over 100 as sole ruck.

I'll choose 'B' thanks Eddie.

NicNat and Stevens.

Berger could struggle with Martin in the side.

Stevens cant go down anymore, might not average 110 again but should do better than Berger.

NicNat could destroy it this year.

I agree with that synopsis, I was just putting my $0.02 in.

If he was a defender, everyone would be jumping over him because with the backs we have at the moment, he's worth the risk. But there are a lot better options in the forward line. But I get the feeling that he'll become an SC staple in the years to come.
