What a f***ing stupid trade.

We're trading away f***ing first round picks and we still have 1 fit KPF on the list.

That doesn't make this trade any better really. Why couldn't we just have gone with 2 first rounders next year? We have plenty of mid level talent.

I'm not saying that makes it better, just trying to offer a different perspective to make some sense of it.

Why have we done this? The points system is bullshit if that is what Cripps and Davies were going on. It works the other way around in that teams without academy players or father/son players can downgrade to have more total points but makes no ******* sense for us to do this when we need quality players.

Why do we come out worse than the two other clubs that needed/wanted us to get their trade done?
Because Chris Davies came into the head role with zero experience in handling AFL contracts or trading apart from glancing at Peter Rohde's fevered ramblings scrawled on the back of the paperwork we forgot to lodge for Toby Thurstans and Damon White

The most frustrating thing here is that we could've just done nothing instead.

I can somewhat accept losing out on market value of a trade if we've got players wanting out. You play the hand you're dealt. I can somewhat accept losing out on market value of a trade if we're targeting specific players to bring in. To fill gaps in your list, you gotta do what you gotta do.

This was not a case of us having to take whatever we could get with the hand we were dealt. It was not a case of us being desperate to fill a need. Here, we had a great hand, and we didn't have to do anything. But we burst into the room where GC and Brisbane were talking, threw our hand away, bent over and asked them to go in dry.

Could we not at the very least have targeted some of GC's better second rounders? It still would've been a crap trade, but at least it would've given the sense that we at least bothered to try to get a good deal.

Nankervis to Richmond officially slams the door on a Lobbe trade anywhere, we're the architects of our own destruction. Incompetent pack of campaigners.

I'm not saying that makes it better, just trying to offer a different perspective to make some sense of it.

The only way I can make sense of this at all is if we're about to trade a player and a 2nd rounder for a KPF and we desparately had to trade into the 2nd round, but that's not what Davies is saying, he's saying that we'll be drafting with these picks.

I'm not that disappointed. I don't get the melts. Come at me.
I'm trying to stay positive. The last time I had this sick feeling was when we drafted Travis Boak and that has turned out fairly well.

FFS!

1. We've gone all in on 2017, so we obviously believe that the draft has what we need and given our age profile we need the kids now.

2. We must be set to upgrade 2 rookies, or only 1 leaving a spot on our list again.

3. We must NAIL these picks. Stuff them and we're ****ed long term.

4. We fail in 2017 and don't make the finals and our club on and off field will fall off a cliff from which all our previous momentum will be destroyed

Brett Anderson tweeted saying the "deal is good for Port, more to it. I'll explain more soon".

There better be. This is far and away the worst "pick only" trade a club has ever done. I'm not a membership burning sort of person, and the club will survive and hopefully thrive with or without more to this trade, but if this is it- I will be flat out angry.

Now I'm going to a meeting. When I get back the Brett Anderson had better have made good on his tweet or someone should tell my dog to hide for 24 hours until I calm down. Those f***ing gravy train riding useless f***ing goldfish may want to stay out of sight too. It's going to be an interesting meeting.

I was willing to give CD and Cripps the benefit of the doubt until after trade period when everyone was losing their minds over us not doing anything, but this has lost me completely, they should both walk away.

How would the AFL view Brisbane willing to part with the compensation pick that they were given only a couple of weeks ago?

Isn't that meant to be used to regenerate their list?

And it will be. Just not directly. The AFL press release when we got the priority pick said we were allowed to trade it FWIW.

I've spent two years as a Ken Hinkley apologist. That ends now. You want to mortgage our future to try to save your job, for a deal that's not even that good, if we don't make finals next year you are out on your arse.

Thing is though, it's probably not even going to benefit us (much) next year and thus help Hinkley and Davies save their jobs. We're mortgaging a better pick next year for a bringing forward the development of a lesser prospect this year. Strange one. This is paying a premium to 'refresh' the list as our hands were tied by the same people dishing out ridiculous contracts to mediocre players. They'd ****ing want to pick the next Nathan Fyfe this year.
