Reckon Taranto goes top 10-15 now, unfortunately :(

Think Willem Drew could be a very good complimentary mid eventually though. Strong, clearance specialist, good at winning contested ball, tackles well, skills good, versatile, good overhead. Basically nothing that Bicks hasn't said already :P

My phantom at this stage:

1: Ess - Brodie
2: GC - Bowes
3: Bris - McCluggage
4: Fre - English
5: GWS - Perryman
6: Carl - SPS
7: GC - McGrath
8: GC - Ainsworth
9: Port - Marshall
10: St K - Taranto
11: GWS - Setterfield
12: NM - Scrimshaw
13: WB - Venables
14: WCE - Rotham
15: Adel - Drew
16: GWS - Bolton
17: GC - Scheer
18: Haw - Berry
19: GWS - Macreadie
20: Syd - Logue

I'm still a Jarrod Berry man slightly over Willem Drew with our pick as I believe we are a genuine chance at our pick...I still rank Hugh Mc the No.1 talent in this draft slightly in front of Andrew McGrath personally.

This from Knightmare's ESPN article today..

Player focus
Playing with great heart and an intensity that matches his red hair, North Ballarat Rebels midfielder Willem Drew -- for the second week in a row -- was named his team's best player. Drew gathered 24 disposals including 16 contested possessions, took five marks and laid nine tackles to go with a goal and score assist. As he has done all year, the 188cm midfielder played with an intensity greater than anyone else on the field.

What has been most impressive from Drew is his ferociousness on the field. Several of Drew's tackles during the game, particularly one in the final quarter, left opponents very slow to get up. His ground ball work and ability to burst through tackles at full speed is a sight to behold. In addition to his sublime inside work, it was also promising to see Drew finding space on the outside as well getting into the right positions behind the ball.

When teammate Hugh McCluggage was taken to ground by two Geelong Falcons players, Drew went straight to the aid of his teammate, pushing the two Geelong instigators back and making it clear he stood for none of that.

Analysis

Drew is viewed as a likely second or third round prospect. However, a positive draft combine along with a strong finish to the TAC Cup finals could mean Drew pushes for first-round selection.

His contested style of game, which sees him win a high percentage of ball in the tight contests, is a feature that translates to AFL level. Drew has also managed to kick 11 goals from his 12 matches this season and is certainly a marking threat forward of centre, while also having the skills required to play in the backline.

One comment several recruiters have made about Drew is, he has the habit of kicking for territory from stoppages rather than lowering his vision to hit up a target. So it is clear he needs to work on identifying targets around the ground as he will not want to continue being limited with his disposal.

If Drew can adjust his decision-making around the stoppages and provide more meaningful drives, his game will reach a whole new level.

4: Fre - English
...

Unless GC values Bowes over everyone else and Ess make a bid on Bowes at pick 1 to force a match by GC, what's the bet GC picks McCluggage at 2?

Then if other teams bid on Bowes, GC can match those bid.

That phantom is with the bids in place. I'm assuming Bris does a rival bid and forces GC to use their own first on Bowes.

I like Berry a lot too, Drew just appears to have the better all-round package for mine. Will make it, IMO.

Personally, I rate McClug as 1 too (with Brodie, McGrath, Ainsworth and Taranto not far behind), but I reckon Essendon goes with the absolute clearance beast and inside bull with their pick at this stage.

Also, Venables is sliding. The only side of his game which really needs developing is his tank IMO, as this is what causes him to fall in and out of games. We're proven to be sufficiently be able to increase the tanks of players. Could be a gun in our system, has many Dangerfield/Dusty-like traits.

Venables would be a bit of a chance to get through to crows pick depending on our finals campaign and would be a great result !

Reckon he will go just before us however

Setterfield......Dangerfield, gives me goose bumps. He isn't from Moggs Creek is he?

Haha no is just the latest GWS academy gun instalment ... David Mundy like 190cm mid

The draft concessions they received were way over the top. Now they get a free pick at academy players which gives them another leg up. It's like recieving at top 5 player number every year.
And Sydney get academy picks on top of COLA....just a joke.

It's likely to be an ongoing issue. Because they have so many high draft picks they'll keep the best of the best and trade the rest off for even more high draft picks, so their 'window' is going to be huge.

Rebels captain Jarrod Berry recovers from bruised kidney

ROAD TO RECOVERY: North Ballarat Rebels captain Jarrod Berry avoided the worst fears with the damage to his kidney, but will be nursed back to football with no return date set. Picture: Lachlan Bence

North Ballarat Rebels will take the cautious approach with captain Jarrod Berry as he recovers from a bruised kidney.

Berry copped the heavy knock early in the Rebels qualifying final clash with Geelong Falcons but played out the opening half before being taken to hospital. He spent two night in hospital with the club relieved their star midfielder avoided any lacerations to his kidney – which was initially feared.

As North Ballarat looks to keep its 2016 campaign alive against Oakleigh Chargers, Berry will watch on from the sidelines. The club will monitor his recovery in the coming weeks but stressed the importance of player welfare and a return to the field would be secondary to a safe recovery.

“We can’t know internally how he’s going to recover so I dare say there will be ongoing testing over the next couple of weeks to see how he’s going,” Rebels talent manager Phil Partington said.

“To our number one player on the list to 46 on the list, if there’s an element of doubt in the boys well-being - we won’t play the boys.”
