I kind of wish both Taranto and Brodie tested at the draft camp. Would have liked to have seen there athletic profiles.

I can't split between the two. Brodie would be the safe option and someone who would be a great complement to Cripps as that second inside mid. However there are questions about his rushed disposal but that can be improved once in an AFL environment. Looks at least a B+ mid but is that what u wanna spend pick 5 on when u could get similar later in the draft. He does have A+ ceiling imo tho contrary to some who think he won't reach those heights.

Then there's Taranto who has massive ceiling with serious attributes with his contested marking, contested ball, ability to hit the scoreboard. However he is not as safe an option as Brodie but the way he finished the year was impressive.

I can't decide

The Kruezer rule.

Do not take a ruckman in the top 10. Ever.

Also known as a Fraser rule, or the Leuenberger rule up north. Ruckman are far too unpredictable in their development.

Completely agree.

Scrimshaw is a very good choice and along with Taranto and SPS should all be available at pick 5.
SPS has finesse poise and just oozes class , Scrimshaw a great size and high ceiling both and Taranto is exciting to watch any one would be good additions to our great club .
My choice is SPS , I think he's the most talented player in this draft.

Elite is a word that gets thrown around a lot.there is no real line, what is elite...at pick 5 we would want a quality player, consistent ,no significant signs of injury...an inside mid which are rare and would be cruicial for us to get one..we could expect 20 possessions per match minimum with good disposal,a player we can structure around, set up clearance patterns like the Hawks have done and begin to control the tempo and play patterns.Brodie may be elite down the track,is Cripps elite yet?....would be good for Brodie to be mentored by Cripps, get stronger, faster, more confident and improve his knowledge..if Brodie not possible we take closest inside mid with strength and ability.Brodie,Taranto,
.we need someone who thrives on the contest...with Gibbs on the move we need them blooded round 1.
10 year player...why not? naturally a 10 year player

Never mentioned Brodie.

What I object to, is people saying that whoever we take at 5 must play next year, as a trade off to being elite

Brodie for me too. You can never have too much grunt in the middle and he and Cripps would be 2 of the best in the business. People that are concerned about not having enough polish in the middle need only look at the glut of inside mids the Swans have. Seems to go okay for them...

Yeah but GWS and Bulldogs mids were way too quick for them. The MCG exposed them on grand final day. At the SCG, they can get away with it.

Taranto is no slouch when it comes to contested ball either. He ran 20M in 3 seconds flat, so he has speed, just needs to learn how/when to use it in my opinion. A few people in the know say that he looks slow but it's not like he lacks speed, just needs to develop his game.

If we bring Bartel along as a skills coach (as has been rumoured) then he'd be the perfect guy to help Taranto because they share similar traits.

Only one ruckman that I can recall that lived up to a least playing great footy, Gar

What a lot of people don't know, is that Taranto beep tested 15 + earlier this year, so has a tank as well

I am also warming to Scrimshaw

I voted for Brodie. He really would be a great partner for Cripps (just assumed that was a cliche everyone was using, but his clearence work really is neat).

Looking at his and Taranto's highlights I would actually say that Brodie looks like a cleaner player. The 3 minute highlight videos don't really give a sense of their tanks or their two way running. But from what I saw, Taranto's handballs often went to players in trouble which caused a turn over. Sometimes he was lucky enough to clean up his own mess and somehow gather the ball after his turn overs which is good at least.

Brodie just looks the more workhorse player who'll shoot the ball out of the middle when you need to gain territory. Also managed to get a few receives out in space and showed his run and dash.

For me it's Brodie as a safe bet to fill a fairly large hole in our midfield for us. Lock it in Eddie.

When looking at clearance midfielders I always look for players with vision.

Cripps has it, by vision I mean players that can clear the ball forward of the play releasing players running forward for +70 metres gained from a stoppage.

Brodie looks great at getting clearances but he lacks vision. A lot of his clearances are handballs backwards to players not running forward (much less penetration from stoppages).

His handball technique is really unusual as well and quite loopy, lacks penetration. When kicking seems to take a long time to get boot to ball, think he would be found out with the pressure and pace of AFL.

Reads the ball in traffic to gain possession very well though.

Taranto has more silk, a little inside work and some good goalsense. If it were out of the two, I'd pick Taranto.

Fan of Brodie and Taranto. They seem to be footballers and we need that natural instinct. Taranto does seem to have a bit more polish. TAC Cup final saw Brodie get alot of it but many possessions were rushed possessions from the contest. Nothing a good coach can't fix though. Enter Super Bolts!

I hope we don't expect our choice to be a saviour though. Let the player grow and develop.

People seem bullish on getting Fyfe. If Freo let him get away, there has to be a relegation system initiated. Would love him but, would love to grow our own stars more!

I wonder if we are confident on Fyfe that we would pass on Brodie.

Fyfe, Cripps and Brodie might be too much inside.

Heard from someone who works with the "prez" that fyfes wage demands are huuuuge and clubs can't get near the money he wants.

Could be a smokescreen but that's what was said......

Also said Gibbs didn't want to go and that his partner is the one who wants to return to SA. (Which has kinda already been said)

Good point I agree.
if it's only a matter of remuneration, we should be able to nap Fyfe.
Will he cost us any picks, for 2016 draft , my choices either of , SPS, Taranto or Scrimshaw any of these lads great assests I time and complimentary to Cripps ,Fyfe midfield demolishing machine.
Anyhow there are a few hidden gems later in the draft too I like Bunker , Dew and Clark. Go Baggers

I would argue that their lack of quick, polished, classy midfielders has played a big part in their last GF losses ... The midfield is definitely solid, but lacks x-factor .. Will change with Heeney entering the fray.

Brodie has good pace. Baby steps for us though. We need to get the ball before we can use it.

So Scrimshaw is clearly the bolter.

Brisbane will bid on Bowes for sure, there's zero risk to them and so much to gain for either outcome if they do so. That leaves us with the 4th live pick.

What are the chances Brisbane might nab him before us? Slim? They have a pretty tall midfield and might view Ainsworth as equal in talent but better suited to them. They also can't afford to play him off HBF if he doesn't adapt quickly.

If we take Scrimshaw, where do we play him. Who in our defence can we send to the midfield? We have to replenish our midfield stocks.

Tuohy needs to be replaced and at this stage I see no obvious replacement for him from within.

Scrimshaw might be that player if we deem him ready to go from round one.

Marchbank, Plowman, Rowe, Weitering, Scrimshaw all above 190cm back there. Docherty, Simpson and Byrne will carry us through next year. Midfield though ... if Gibbs goes next year ... uh oh.
