The assault charge combined with the fact his form has declined from a couple of years ago probably means he wouldn't be of interest to us IMO, certainly not for a decent draft pick. He's out of contract in 2017. We'll talk in a year. Until then he can stay at Hawthorn.
Have a look at getting B.Hill via the 2017 PSD?

The way I understand it is if they have pick 1 no one can bid then, so they can get whomever they like. Then say essendon bid on their academy guy, they get moved to pick 2 from where ever they are & have to make up the points value of the pick.
If they have pick one they choose whoever they want, then get to use their later picks to get another top five pick.

Alternatively if we have pick one and bid on their player the points value that bid generates minus their discount is almost bang on the value of pick two. Which will eat all their other first rounders.

So if we arw ahead of an academy club in the draft and they have first round picks, we need to be doing a deal to trade those first round picks for our later picks even next year for the understanding that we aren't interested in their player.

I had a little crack at our list management and this is what I came up with for the next 2 years
OUT:
Retire: Pavlich, Mzungu, Silvagni, Griffin, Johnson, Dawson
Delist: Hannath & Deluca with possibly Tanner Smith and Nyhuis not being given another contract.
FA: Mayne & Clarke, C.Pearce may all choose to leave.
Possible want outs: Sheridan, Langdon and Ibbo. Suban, Barlow and Deboer may look elsewhere as well

In: McCarthy and draft picks. I don't see us getting Hogan but if we do then our forward half is 100% set for the next 7-10 years. However our forward line is not as dire as people make it out to be.

IMHO Our glaring holes are ruck, KPD and a key lock down small defender. So basically, our back 6 needs a total make over. Our current backline is

FB: Sutcliffe Dawson Spurr
HB: Ibbotson A.Pearce Johnson

Dawson and Johnson will be gone in 2 years. I reckon Collins has been given his chance to cement a spot, give him the rest of the season in A.Pearces spot. If he shows he can make it then that's already a plus for us, if not then we need to draft one quickly. Spurr may decline in form and Sutcliffe is not a lockdown defender and we haven't had a proper back pocket since Roger Hayden. I think Grey needs to be given Sutcliffes spot and Sutcliffe needs to be given a shot up the ground. I think Grey could play this position and play it well. Sheridan/Tucker to be given the rebounding defender position and Hughes to be the third tall.

Our other glaring deficiency is our desperate need to draft a ready made mature age ruck. Sandi has 2-3 years left and we've only got Clarke, Griffin and Hannath to replace him (none of which I see staying on our list in 2 years). We need to draft a mature age ruckman from WAFL/VFL/SANFL as a stop gap while we project one with Sandis few years left. Apeness is another who could pinch hit while our project ruckman comes on. If we can somehow nab a second round pick then I'd use it on a ruckman. We don't need a forward/ruck if we have Apeness, we need a solid, can ruck almost a full game sort to replace sandi. Looking at trading in a fringe, young ruckman from other clubs might be worth a shot too.

That's it. Draft Manipulation 101. A perfect accompaniment to Tanking 101. Not that we are or would be doing either.

Hawthorn could be interested in Langdon or Sheridan. Who knows.

Loving it lets launch on Hawthorn take Brad Hill and Litherland both would slot in nicely personally think Brad Hill is an upgrade on Pearce and Sheridan and Litherland is an upgrade on our half backs Spurr and Sutcliffe so yes make it happen.

I feel like Brad Hill is the type of player who looks good in a Hawthorn side but will look crap in ours. The Hill brothers might enjoy playing together though. But then again, Brad has just been charged with assault so I'm not sure I wanna go there...
Agree with no much good skill player in our team getting Brad is like us getting Josh Carr long time ago.

Brad Hill has great kicking and running skills that is exactly why we should try and get him the assault sounds minor a dust up between two young bucks outside a nightclub in pre season one got hit in the nose.

Players worth a phone call:

Angus Litherland: 24 yo, 192cm, 88kg - Medium sized defender from Claremont. Starved for opportunities behind Gibson, Frawley, Stratton, Birchall et al. Not a world beater but could definitely fill a void, especially if Ibbo is moved on.

Shane Kersten: 23 yo, 191cm, 92kg - Key forward from South Freo. Would make a nice addition to our redundant forward line but would need some help (Apeness?) as he currently works well next to Hawkins.

Jarrod Witts: 23 yo, 209cm, 111kg - Ruck - gets around pretty well for a big fella and tackles well. Is now behind Grundy and Cox at Collingwood but could easily play a tandem role with Sandi in 2017 before taking over the mantle from there on. Not a bad forward either.

Brad Hill: 23 yo, 181cm, 78kg - Wing/flanker - Stephen Hills rogue brother. I agree with the comments on here, he could just be a good player in a great team but worth a flyer imo because who's to say Freo won't be great in a few years. Can't question his ability when he does have the footy, kicks goals and can't be any worse than Sheridan/Crozier at the minute.

Freo are in a desperate need to turn over the list. Not saying any of these guys are the answers but they're worth it at the right price in my opinion.

Think this coming trade/draft period has gotta be the big one. Get in McCarthy and one of Litherland, Witts etc. Delist/trade the foot-soldier types in Suban, Deboer, Mzungu. Get whatever we can for Mayne, Barlow, Clarke and a couple others. Would keep our first pick and nab a future classy midfield star and use the rest of our picks on project talls.

Just hope Bond and Lloyd are up to it. Need to make up for the errors of the past and be more aggressive.

I agree it is very important, but I do not think we can fix our issues in 1 draft.

How much currency does ballaz have? I actually like crozier. His tackling has been great, has good hands and can kick well but does go missing. I think he can play the ballaz role.

The other question is whether it's worth trading pick 3 which will likely be a bona-fide gun in SPS into two players who are less likely to make it.
That's easy. No. When the absolute elite fall into your pick you take it.
Nothing is guaranteed but this kid is as close to a guaranteed A+++ player as there is.

Witts is from Sydney, with Mumford getting on he's more likely to go to Giants, they still don't have any from Sydney on there list.
Billy longer is in the vfl, looks out of favour at the saints and might be able to be enticed, he is the style of ruckman that RTB likes, though I don't really rate him skill wise but he's hard at it but never looked that fit either.

I like the idea of Ballaz on the block and reckon he would attract a bit of interest but I also think he would just retire if he had to move interstate.
