One of my main concerns with SPS is he is small in stature. It's been hard watching Murph over the years knowing how much of a gun he is yet can get absolutely bullied by bigger bodies.

It's reasons like this I'd rather go a Taranto, Scrimshaw etc

The most demoralising thing about Murph being pushed around is watching his teammates let it happen. In 10+ years the only time I recall the boys flying the flag was against Crowley in 2014. Hopefully the new ethos would have the side protect someone like SPS from similar treatment.

Valid concern, although SPS definitely has more speed to evade and also more evasiveness in traffic. He also seems to play with a little more mongrel than Murph. Marc is a great player but he's almost too nice the way he plays.

Heard from a very good source that their opinion as it is right now would be that the top four (before our pick) will be some order of:

McGrath, Taranto, McLuggage & Ainsworth

Meaning SPS is surely firming for us on Friday night.

#draftbluemour

P.S. I'm aware this seems extremely obvious, but with the various bolters and alternatives being thrown around, this may give a little clarity/steadiness to the top of the draft.

With pick 5, I'm just crossing my fingers we don't pick the 1/2 bust players in the top 10; or the token 'try-hard' (Skully type) whose best year is his AFL draft year.

I have no idea who in the top 10 fits the above failure criteria, I just think we have had our fair share over recent years, and in terms of this rebuild, it is critical.

Ok, I haven't said anything new or insightful, or anything you don't think already. Just thought I'd up my post count one more tick!

Carry on!

You do t think Scully has turned in to a really good player?

The tone was set in his first season - mid season versus Brisbane Lions, Murphy was attacked from pillar to post until he was slung tackled by Robert Copeland and his season ended with a serious shoulder injury. No one flew the flag and they haven't ever since.

I tend to agree on that top 4 Matty, but think there may be a surprise or 2 after that

This is the most interesting draft in years, for top 10 prospects

Generally there would be more genuine talented midfielders and KPPs', which I see as:

McCluggage
Setterfield
SPS
Bowes
Perryman

Note: No KPPs'

After that, there are talented flankers, with strong X-Factor characteristics

Taranto
McGrath
Ainsworth
Scrimshaw
Hayward

I can see why Taranto has firmed for GWS, he may be the more dangerous dual position player, from that group.

Whichever way it falls, we will get a very good footballer

Think it might be McGrath, Taranto, Ainsworth and McCluggage.
Don't think Brisbane will let Ben go after he declared he wanted to play there.

In this case, we can only pray for a Bowes bid for McLuggage... Less than 5% chance you'd have to say.

Yes I remember the native animosity and violence from parochial lions all because Murphy chose the Baggers .
That scum of a Copeland almost destroyed a brilliant career.
A first year kid head down hunting the ball , just mercilessly dumped by a old campaigner.
AFL should applied a 3 to 4 months suspension as a deterrent.
Fortunately that all in the past.

Would be interesting if we picked Brodie after all the noise around SPS... could be the smokescreen SOS wanted to put Suns off the scent. My source also mentioned that Blues have been very quiet i.e. difficult to get any whispers/news out of.

So anything is possible.

Not convinced we'll select Brodie. SPS would be the favourite IMO.

Unless he was pretty reluctant to move interstate in his interviews. Brissy might want a crack at the QLD boy.

You've doubt it though, clubs with academies would be reluctant to start p1ssing each other off.

Next lot...

#8 - GCS
Jack Scrimshaw (193cm, 80kg defender) Sandringham Dragons

Good size and disposal. Can play on talls and mid sized forwards and may transition into the midfield over time. Only played seven TAC Cup games, but averaged second most disposals and most intercepts of any halfback.

#9 - Fremantle
Will Brodie (189cm, 82kg midfielder) Murray Bushrangers

A ready-to-go and dominant inside midfielder that has slipped down the order due to injury and a staggered season. Would complement the polish of Neale and Fyfe superbly and add some much needed grunt to their mdfield.

#10 - Sydney
Griffin Logue (193cm, 92kg defender) Swans District

Perhaps a bolter in terms of where many see him going but certainly a terrific fit for the swans who need to plan for their defences future. The best key defender in this years draft possesses pace and athleticism that will allow for an incredible partnership alongside Allir Allir and Heath Grundy.

#11 - GCS
Jy Simpkin (181cm, 71kg forward) Murray Bushrangers

A broken leg has bought a big question mark over the forward that was once rated a clear top-10 pick. I believe the Suns will take the gamble as Jy presents them with x-factor and a creative option for their forward line. Won 17 disposals, four clearances and kicked 1.4 goals in his TAC Cup game.

#12 - GCS (Matched North Melbournes bid)
Brad Scheer (184cm, 83kg midfielder) Palm Beach-Currumbin/Gold Coast academy

Lifts in the decisive moments of games and an overall solid player from their academy. May have rated him a little higher than some but believe the Suns would match. Averaged 21 disposals and kicked four goals in the final three TAC Cup finals.

#13 - North Melbourne
Oliver Florent (183cm, 74kg half-forward) Sandringham Dragons

With good pace, plenty of X-factor and a penetrating kick, Florent is a terrific choice for the Roos. Averaged 21 disposals and kicked four goals in the final three TAC Cup finals

#14 - West Coast
Daniel Venables (186cm, 81kg forward) Western Jets

Pacy and versatile inside/outside midfielder who can also push forward. Only averaged 13 disposals at the championships, but won the second most AFL player ratings points of any forward.

#15 – GWS (Matched Adelaide’s bid)
Harry Perryman (184cm, 75kg defender) Collingullie/GWS academy

A versatile player who at the national championships rated in the top 10 per cent of defenders for disposals, contested possessions, intercepts and metres gained.

do hope Lions bid on Bowes to keep CG honest.
i see Lions getting Ainsworth instead of McCluggage (go home factor) plus Ainsworth wants to go there.
Unless Lions give the big finger salute to us and prevent McCluggage coming to us.

if McCluggage is not there for us then we bid on Setterfield. would be very surprised if we dont take SPS assuming GWS match bid on Setterfield.

Interesting that Brodie has slipped in people's perceptions. Talked as No.1, was injured late in the year so didn't perform at his best. Still a very solid prospect who is a less risky option than SPS. The thing a like about Brodie is that he can take marks around the ground, I think that's his point of difference as a mid.. and his leadership qualities.

Picking Brodie at 5 allows us to be more risky at pick 25 with a Fisher, Bolton or Cox type. I'd be feeling anxious if our first 2 picks were used on WA kids.

I really like Zac Fisher at pick 25. He is a left footer, who finds plenty of the ball, is very clean with ball handling and disposal, and can kick goals. Reminds me of a young Zac Merrett.
