TBH Hamish hadn't proven himself yet but that's not because he has picked duds his crop of picks haven't been around to prove themselves look at Rendells draft picks and tell me he is overrated and at what number he picked them at

Lever, Laird, Hartigan, McGovern, M Crouch, Rat and Cameron have already showed enough to suggest that they were very good selections

Milera, Doedee and Greenwood won't be far behind

Not sure about that. GWS had already burned a lot of points on other players, earlier in the draft. Ogilivie's actions at the time (from memory he bolted to the lectern) were not those of a man who expected GWS to match the bid. I think they were a little bit surprised, and definitely disappointed, when GWS chose to match the bid on Himmelberg.

It makes no sense to think of it as a "strategic bid", as Adelaide had no way of benefiting. This was Adelaide's last "live" selection in the draft, so they had nothing to gain by forcing GWS to burn points from later picks.

I think it was a genuine bid, on a player they rated as the next best available at that point in the draft. When that fell through, they went with Doedee, who was the next player on the list after Himmelberg.
Good story but it was Pyke reading out the 1st round names not haggis !

I'd say he's already proven himself

Add Himmelberg to that mix given we bid on him and he looks great and a modern prototype

Essendon are just milking some positive spotlight

Don't think so when it's the coach John Worsfold and CEO Xavier Campbell that met with Hughey this morning and according to Rebels Talent Manager Phil Partington set up another meeting later in the week. Allansford is not just a hop, skip and jump from Melbourne!

Dodoro has no doubt made his recommendations but obviously Worsfold and Campbell are still making up their mind...they have pick 1 so they don't have to worry about anyone snaring their chosen player, they just need to pick the correct one.

Explain the first bit more DD?

You mean outside mids Milera and Cox ?

We may have added some but we still lack quality in that regard and speed around the ball

Not sure Cox is answer though from brief bits of seen of him ( only seen him live once )
well the first part is really tied to the second.

I'm not talking about outside so much as hybrids who can run. Matty will be the only slower, "hold out your opponent" type left once Thommo is gone (seeing as Sloane has really opened up his game as well) and this for me suggests a (welcomed) change in play style for our midfield and less reliance on sitting under taps.

Consider Cameron, Atkins, CEY, Wigg, Milera, Menzel, Knight, Doedee, Greenwood all might be earmarked to spend time in the on ball rotations behind Sloane, Brad and Matt and none of them will provide what Thommo does in a structural sense, and neither would Cox or Hayward.

the point is I think this transition away from the Thommo structure is certainly a good thing, but I'm perplexed as to why if this is the way we're going we didn't run it more last year with CEY and Wigg available most if not all of the season. He certainly wasn't locking up his spot based on performance in the second half of the year.

Or you could just be happy with mediocrity
The expected response from a feeble mind, one incapable of grasping the complexities of why Adelaide has not won a flag since 1998 - reasons which have nothing to do with the performance of our drafting since Rendell & Ogilvie took over from Fantasia.

Fair call

A couple of under appreciated things about Cox (just watched a lot more tapes of him today) - he's quite an under appreciated tackler and marker of the ball. Not just quick and a good kick.

Still think there's better options at 13 but I'm becoming more and more comfortable with it.

So you think he doesn't know what he's doing ?

Do you think he will take Sharenberg?

Absolutely spot on. You know the 1st South Aussie lad selected in the draft and first rounder predicted too. We may just overlook him though cos there's these pesty %%% facts lurking that our recruitment crew really take note of. :)

You can call it feeble minded if you like I really couldn't give a toss, if you want to throw feeble insults and yet you are the one questioning my mind! Mate look in the mirror

As for not winning a flag, we haven't had the players, is there an enormous whole in our list? I'll give you a hint if you like! Don't think to hard about that and I'm sure they have seen it coming for a while or they are incompetent. Meaning both the list management and recruiting department need to plan, it usually makes sense!

How many picks have they got in these rounds (1st, 2nd)? This year.
Have they loaded up.
If they have and lose them it's probably something the AFL can't stomach.
So I predict heel dragging by AFL and penalty for next year so they can plan for it best as possible for minimum impact.
Interesting though that apparently thru the trade, clubs were warned off doing any trades for GWS picks #15 and #37 ????

They're not going to lose pick 2, that was gained via trade, more than likely they'd lose pick 15 and ?37 as these were their natural picks.

At this stage I suspect the AFL are hoping GWS will just hand in the picks, save them having to make a tough decision.
Understand GWS are considering handing the picks back and leaving them at AFL house :p
