West AdelaideVery even - no 2 clubs will agree on rankingNever seen a draft like this where the media are so totally clueless with only 3 days to go.
Not sure about that. GWS had already burned a lot of points on other players, earlier in the draft. Ogilivie's actions at the time (from memory he bolted to the lectern) were not those of a man who expected GWS to match the bid. I think they were a little bit surprised, and definitely disappointed, when GWS chose to match the bid on Himmelberg.Anyway, does anyone think that we expected to get him? I had the distinct feeling that we would have been surprised if the Giants did not match. Felt like a strategic bid at the time.
Yes, they have. Clubs now only have as many draft picks as they have list vacancies. No stockpiling of later round picks.Does anyone know if the AFL have revamped the bidding system after GWS was able to essentially bid up to 3 first round draft picks? That made draft night a huge joke.
Of course, we had no other live picks - so it had to be a real pick. I remember there was confusion about whether it was being matched, and you're right we were kind of sprinting to get the paper work inNot sure about that. It makes no sense to think of it as a "strategic bid", as Adelaide had no way of benefiting. This was Adelaide's last "live" selection in the draft, so they had nothing to gain by forcing GWS to burn points from later picks.
I think it was a genuine bid, on a player they rated as the next best available at that point in the draft. When that fell through, they went with Doedee, who was the next player on the list after Himmelberg.

Big call!I expect to see both Tom and Wayne playing in the AFL this year.

Big call!![]()
.Dangerfield, for one. Selected by Rendell, but only after Ogilvie had identified his talent and pushed hard for his selection.
I think Ogilvie has proven himself, whereas Rendell is vastly overrated. Is that the same as Jonas being credited for our premierships instead of Blight
The cox rumors are getting stronger for 13.
ThanksIt's three hours apparently from 6 till 9 SA time. The foxtel guide hasnt been updated properly yet though and still says 30 mins.

Mentioning Hugh McCluggage to be again interviewed by Essendon later this week so not written in stone yet that McGrath goes No.1. Again some unseen footage of the players.

I think this tooI'm starting to feel that we'll be going with Cox if Hayward and Brodie aren't there.
Just a feeling.
Explain the first bit more DD?if we take Cox we're really stacking that sort of type.
makes the decision to carry Thommo all last year even stranger IMO.
