If the league go by their method of the last few years (6-6-6) it will it should go something like this.

We play twice - Richmond, Bulldogs, Port Adelaide, GWS, Collingwood.

The rest we'll play just once.

Therefore our definite interstate games are - Port Adelaide and GWS (will most likely also be Freo, Brisbane and Suns, will explain below).
The definite KP home games would be - Port and GWS (will most likely also Eagles and Bulldogs, will explain below)
Most likely home games played in Melbourne would be Collingwood and Richmond (most likely also Essendon and Carlton, will explain below).

Our played only once teams in 2015 that was our home game were - Carlton, Suns, Brisbane, Melbourne, Fremantle and Bulldogs.
Our played only once teams in 2015 that was their home game were - Richmond, Essendon, Collingwood, Eagles, Port Adelaide and Giants.
Do they swap home games with played only once teams the following year? If so then this explains the teams I put in brackets.

The groups that play each other twice are - Freo, Eagles, Hawthorn, Sydney, Adelaide and North.
The other group being - Melbourne, St Kilda, Essendon, Suns, Lions and Carlton.

I reckon we might be reasonably happy with our draw.

If Hawthorn and North play their usual four home games Tasmainia, that means they will be packing their bags for at least 8 times. Their fans will be screaming.

That's not how the system works.

This is how the fixture is determined:

  • Sides ranked 1-6 on the ladder have a minimum of two double-meetings with other top six sides and a maximum of three meetings with sides ranked 1-6. They have a minimum of one double-meeting of sides ranked 7-12 and a maximum of two double-meetings of sides in the 7-12 range. They have either no double meetings or a maximum of one double meeting with a side ranked 13-18.
  • Sides ranked 7-12 on the ladder have a minimum of one double-meeting with sides ranked 1-6 on the ladder and a maximum of two meetings with sides ranked 1-6. They have a minimum of two double-meetings of sides ranked 7-12 and a maximum of three double-meetings of sides 7-12. They have a minimum of one double-meeting of sides ranked 13-18 and a maximum of two double-meetings of sides ranked 13-18.
  • Sides ranked 13-18 on the ladder have either no double meeting or a maximum of one double meeting with a side ranked 1-6. They have a minimum of one double-meeting with sides ranked 7-12 and a maximum of two double-meetings of sides ranked 7-12. They have a minimum of two double-meetings of sides ranked 13-18 and a maximum of three double-meetings of sides 13-18.

As a middle-tier team, we have to play at least one top-six side from 2015 twice and can play a maximum of two top six sides twice. That will most likely mean we get Hawthorn twice and perhaps one more top six side from 2015 (any of Freo, North, Adelaide, Sydney, and WCE). That's down from this year, when we got double-ups against North, Hawthorn, and Sydney.
We have to get at least two double-ups against sides within our own tier, 7-12, and a at most three.
We can get one or two double-ups against bottom-tier sides, which we didn't get this year.

I would say we'd get double-ups against Hawthorn, Adelaide (AFL will want to play up the Dangerfield story), Collingwood, Richmond, and St. Kilda.

From the top 6 I'm guessing we'll get Hawthorn and Adelaide twice. From the middle group I reckon we may get the dogs twice and the Pies as they help our bottom line. GWS may be at KP to give SJ a homecoming game.

Is it Top 6 prior to finals or as per the ladder after the final round?
I don't mind us playing the Hawks twice- we generally match up OK on them game-wise (this season, unfortunately, we were down skill- and personnel-wise). Definitely there'll be the Adelaide and GWS back-stories being played out. That's 3 games. Leaves two more. The Scott vs Scott saga didn't go well for us this season- the AFL will probably want to keep us in our box so expect that to play out again- hopefully with the ledger tipping in our favour, this time. Maybe the bottom 6 team we will play twice will be Brisbane- because of the Christensen, West, Walker, Jansen story. Cooky will probably request the Pies twice, though, as you said- because $$- so maybe Pies instead of GWS.

This season we went to Adelaide twice and NSW twice, so I agree with newcs that we will probably play Freo, Brisbane and Suns away. I am pretty sure it's not a simple 2-year cycle, though, newcs- more like a 3- or 4- year cycle but it is meant to even out eventually. So Port at home, GWS at home, maybe Sydney at home, Eagles at home...

There'll be 6 day breaks between playing the Hawks and Adelaide or any other top 6 team... or perhaps Hawks- 6 day break- fly to WA to play Freo- 6 day break- back home to face Norf or something like that..

Well we know Hawks round 1 is a given (should be our home game this time as they usually alternate which means we shouldn't have to see Hawks unfurl the flag) You would safely assume that Crows in Adelaide is almost guaranteed with the Dangerfield factor. Another likely clash now would be Giants at home with Stevie J now playing for them but knowing the AFL we will probably only get them once and will be sent to Canberra again

As a TV spectator only - i hope theres quite a few night games at KP - 2 seasons back there was quite a few - and i thought they were brilliant - Fremantle game comes to mind - Mundy shot after the siren - seemed like a great atmosphere at those night games

Where as last year - i think there was only maybe 1-2 - the Sydney game was also enjoyable to watch

4-5 night games at KP i would enjoy - as TV spectator

The AFL forgot that the stadium had lights last year.

Now we have finished trade period we can look forward to the draw being released next week

Surprised that there has been virtually no leaks as yet

Given our ladder position id say we will play 2 top 6 teams twice, two middle 6 teams twice and 1 bottom 6 twice.

I think we are no chance of getting 2 bottom 6 teams twice.

Last year we were the only team in the comp that didnt get a bottom 6 team twice.

Motlop, Cockatoo, Dangerfield, that's some pretty exciting talent. Maybe we receive a few more prime-time Friday night matches :thumbsu:

I think we will get quite a few more Friday night games cause of the Dangerfield factor alone. Could even see a stand out Crows vs Cats Thursday night game at Adelaide Oval.

Would be amazed if we don't play the Hawks twice-so there's 2 wins we can pencil in!
Am expecting, although not desirous of, the usual 6 trips interstate.
Would like first game at home to welcome the new lads.
Not fussed about anything else.

We'll beat the Hawks twice next year... I'm hoping we get them as a double.

Not too fussed next year as I'm quietly confident we'll do some damage with a healthy list.

I know there is Dollar considerations.... but when we are doing the reno's at KP... I'd be happy to play extra games at the Dome and G ...perhaps then balanced out in the future.

When was the last time we had what was considered a "soft draw"?

We always seem to vs Hawks, Swans, Freo and Norf twice a year and never Essendon,Carlton, Melbourne, Richmond twice.

4 birds,Hawks Eagles Crows Magpies and Lion I think will be our doubles.
We won't get all three of Hawks, Eagles and Crows twice (they are all top 6 teams) and we are a middle 6 team - this is what it should mean for our fixture:

Sides ranked 7-12 (us) on the ladder from the previous year have a minimum of one double-meeting with sides ranked 1-6 on the ladder and a maximum of two meetings with sides ranked 1-6, these sides are (Hawks, Eagles, Dockers, Roos, Swans and Crows)

They have a minimum of two double-meetings of sides ranked 7-12 and a maximum of three double-meetings of sides 7-12 (Dogs, Tigers, Power, Giants and Pies)

They have a minimum of one double-meeting of sides ranked 13-18 and a maximum of two double-meetings of sides ranked 13-18 (Demons, Saints, Bombers, Lions, Suns and Blues)

With that in mind I think our double ups will be something like this:
- two in top 6 twice (Hawks and Crows)
- two in our group twice (Giants and Tigers/Pies/Dogs)
- one in bottom 6 twice (Suns/Saints/Demons)
