A first rounder ?? I like your optimism but I can't see JL being worth that. If we ended up with a pick in the mid 20s we would have done a very good deal.

I'd be curious, if someone had the time - last 5 years picks taken between 15-20.

Forgetting the diamonds in the rough, I doubt many of them would be better players than Lyons - who still have improvement left in him.

what i would do this trade period.

Trade pick 13 to carlton for gibbs
Trade lyons to north for wells comp. pick (20-25) ontrade this pick and mackay to brisbane for rockliff.
Henderson leaves via fa nets us a pick at the end of the 2nd rd. (38-43)
Trade douglas to gold coast for pick 25.
We lose henderson, douglas, mackay, lyons, our first rd pick.
We gain rockliff, gibbs, an early 2nd rd pick and a late 2nd rd pick.
Go to the draft with 25, 38, 50, 68, 86(upgrade rookie)

I've gone right back through the drafts there's barely been a glaring error, most of the super star players were taken before we even had our first pick anyway.

It's probably our trades where we lost picks that could have netted us stars if we kept them that let us down.

ams4crows - have you got draftees taken 15-25 over the last five years?

From memory Fyfe was pick 19 or 20. May be a strong outlier over an extended period however

I'm assuming you have sources?

Called Eddie. Look at any of her interviews discussing it, and he has talked about how the Crows offered more money and if Carlton upped theirs a bit closer (not match) he would have stayed at Carlton.

But it's definitely part of a bigger picture

So we are apparently not playing thommo , Lyons gone and CEY maybe as well

And we've got a thin midfield already

Mmm...
This is what i don't get and makes me think we are getting a couple of fish. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense, especially with lyons who i reckon was our 3rd best mid this year
Go or stay CEY not up to it either imo so i wouldn't be relying on his output

What is the formula for FA compensation? As much as I'd like to get end of 2nd round for Henderson, I doubt we would. He's played 90 games in 7 seasons and only 5 this year. I doubt he's going to be attracting huge money or a long term contract wherever he goes, so I think it's more likely we end up with 3rd round.

I live in Perth and have a $500k mortgage in a nice house we've had for five years. If you kept my income and all other cost of living exactly the same except for housing, I'd be close to mortgage free. AFL is one of the few industries you can earn the same income as interstate yet have very low cost of living.

Amazed footballers aren't jumping at the chance to set themselves up for life by going to Adelaide.

Is AFC marketing itself well in enough in this regard? In all seriousness, should part of their recruiting strategy be to show wealth accumulation in Adelaide vs other states?
That's exactly what I mean.

I think what you're saying is that Adelaide should hire me in their marketing department, and I think you'll find that's 100% correct.

Mark Bickley would be keen.

Speaking of assistants, did anything ever come from those rumblings a while back about Peter Sumich coming across to the Crows? Our season has been over for several weeks now but haven't really seen too many moves happening on the coaching front.

I thought he was being talked about as a replacement for Noble?

Rockliff is worth a lot more than Lyons and Mackay lol

Lyons is worth 15-20 - if we can't get that, we shouldn't even consider trading him.

That said, based on our apparent contract offer, we'll accept pick #69.
He's not worth anything like pick 15. 25-30 is the ball park.

If we get offered anything better then we sign immediately, before the drugs wear off and the other club realises what they've done.

And Eddie had his worst season under Malthouse who did not rate him.
All hail Mick Malthouse, super guru!

So from our 2016 best 22 midfield douglas mackay lyons thommo are out, rocky gibbs in. Who are the other 2?

Ken Oath it should. I'm drooling imagining the graphs you could show players about how much further the dollar goes here, how low the inflation rate here is... and we have electricity now!

Wang Wang and Fu Ni.

Will do better than that lot combined

Those two would create pandemonium in the midfield!
