Have to go against you Blighty Selwood will be a freak till his 30s his break away speed hasnt tarnished at all and his ball sense is strong. No one in the AFL can match his will when he really does lift our team. Selwood was polaxed and tagged pillar to post this year with our next tier of mids sucuumbing to injury (Caddy and Duncan) I feel he missed bundy helping him out around the congestion to.
I really hope you're right about Selwood he literally bleeds for the club pretty much every game but has been brutally polaxed and scragged for years now and I just felt like this year it finally started to catch up with him and it reflected in his footy. For mine he lost a yard of pace, his disposal efficiency dropped off, and he looked tired at times. On AFL's physical toll Joel's said 'We age pretty quickly I can tell you that I'm 25 but I probably look mid 30s.' I hope his dynamism returns because that would certainly give us a good chance of possibly winning a final next year.

In between all the pics of AFL players using the off season to relax, party, spend time by the pool etc.

There's our captain, spending time in Uganda for the Cotton On foundation.

Yep, a true champion

There's a young lad who'll have no problem transitioning to life after AFL. What a bloke!! :hearts:

And good work by posting them on social media so the afl doesn't ask any questions about his Cotton On "Job".

fair call. I think opposition taggers were wearing him like a glove though which effected everything, our midfield has been based solely around him for years. Thank god for the acquisition of Danger. I thought Sel came home strong, but would have to agree, he'll live a short life body must be wasted.

love it when he bursts from congestion and hits a target on the t*t, did it a few games this season when but only patchy.

Confident our midfield will go up in efficiency with a monster ruck, Midfield acquisition and natural progression of some guys hitting their peak - Duncs, Mots, Guth, Cads. Pretty excited.

You do realise that Stevie J is no spring chicken and next season is his last... you're acting like he's 25 and in the prime of his career. Let's have a bit of perspective here.

No, not at all. I was commenting on the ability of Stephen Wells to find hidden gems late in the draft that turn into champions (Boris/Stokes etc)

I want to see what he does with this round 5 pick next year. I hope he doesn't pass. I hope whoever he gets will be really good. I hope his legend continues to grow.

The comment had nothing at all to do with Stevie J.

I highly doubt he'll use the fifth-round pick next year. We shouldn't be going that deep in the draft two years in a row.

So Wells says 4 to 5 draft picks.... so does that mean 2 to 3 DFA?....

With such late picks I'm not really sure which way we should go. We have recruited for now... so dfa that are legit chances to be selected thru the year are probably fine backups ... but how many dfa are really that good?

If we could get guys in of the quality of Taylor Hunt and Joel Hamling, I'd be pretty pleased.

Probably no worse than the JS group we had running around a few years ago, Turbo. Sheringham, Srringer, Schroder all provided depth at different times of the season- none were picked up by any other club so perhaps players of that ilk- older, 1 year contracts, depth players who might get a game or two or three as necessary and will play VFL otherwise.
I think we have now got to resign ourselves to the fact that we most likely won't pick up a player who will play 20 senior games next year but be satisfied with getting some battle-scarred hardened players who can fill a need on the odd occasion in the seniors like the players I mentioned above (even sacrificial lambs-MRP fodder if you like, playing games vs Hawks. ;)).

Im not sure on that... I cant remember us ever starting at a P67 type area. If nothing else it may actually give Wells are chance to pick players who normally wouldn't be picked.

“Number 67 is our first pick but it will all be over by 67 so they will all come in together and we will have four or five of the last ten picks of the draft,’’ Wells said.

“I am sure there will be some good players there so it’s just a matter of finding them. I was really pleased with the way the draft combine went and the state combines too.”

The Cats trade week is done, with no more interest in last-minute deals after such a rich bounty.

Scott said in the press conference with Henderson today he expects us take 5 picks in the draft and it sounded like we will upgrade a rookie. Was asked about delisted free agents but didn't mention anything about us doing that or if we do who that might be.
The mystery continues on how we will fill the spots.

To be honest they wouldn't be good enough... but of course you are only throwing darts aren't you

Sorry to tell you, but we won't be finding anyone better than Hunt and Hamling at our picks in the ND or recycled from another club. I'd absolutely take a promising young KPD or a decent depth player like Hunt if they're out there. Those are the types we need.

So 8 spots to fill.
4 draftees,
1 upgraded rookie,
3 mystery spots left.
Definitely keeping quiet on the DFA they'll target.
I'm sure they have list of them lined up already.

It's great that Henderson, Scott Selwood and Dangerfield played junior footy together I know they're not 18 year old draftees but always helps to know people starting in your new job. Henderson mentioned they were friends when they played for the falcons and have remained in contact with each other since.

That may or may not be. Have all clubs finished delisting yet?
