Given Essendon didn't bid on any academy players last year because they just took them off their lists, that seems an unlikely scenario. :)

Also I can't see Allison going that early at this stage.

I felt that was more sheedy on that free pass. Also they were dead set on parish/Francis/Oliver. The top 10 is much more even this year however so Bowes could receive an early bid. Allison probably won't. I can't see them bidding on macreadie if Hurley stays.

If Hugh McLuggage doesn't get picked in the top 5 I'll be the Pope. He's averaging 30+ disposals and kicking 2 goals a game. Could easily go pick 1, and I won't be shocked if SPS isn't the number 1 pick. Macraedie is a very good player but personally he'd be the last one I'd expect Richmond to want, their midfield is the issue (genuine mids not flankers turned mids) not their defence.

Completely forgot about mcluggage. But it was just a quick outline of how we could still snare Todd Marshall as long as that pick remains live

It will be an interesting choice if you are choosing between Marshall and McLuggage. In my view right not the latter is the better player, however he will be gone at pick 1/2 anyway. Personally you will get Marshall anyway (and we can all lol at Collingwood). Can't see any players getting bids that early. Allison is a gun so he will be first cab off the rank, but the others are probably in the pick 7+ range.

Bowes is among the first bid on according to several articles and phantoms. But even with the option to take mcluggage, why would we when we have just brought in hopper, Kennedy and Steele along with setterfield and mutch that we may select

Maybe, my personal view (and it isn't everyone's view) is you take the best available early. If that is McCluggage (and it would be) then you should take him. Bowes is probably after Allison's bid on exposed form at least. These kids we will know more about their range after the Championships.

McLuggage?!?!?

That's not a real name, surely.

It is. Hugh McCluggage. For me personally he's the number 1 pick. SPS is going to be a great player but he's always going to be a low possession player (albeit those possessions are elite)

Then I'm sorry, never heard of him (and it's not a name easily forgotten). What's his story? And you'll have to expand SPS for me as well (pardon my ignorance)

Sam Petrotski-Sexton (SPS)- and I've probably spelt that ridiculously wrong. McCluggage is a high production mid, goal kicking mid but a big body, and he loves the contest from what I have heard at least. As a certainty he's the more sure thing than SPS. SPS is a midfield version of Cyril Rioli, he's a gun don't get me wrong and does some really freakish things but he's not a high possession mid and that is the small risk. Reality is those two are going pick 1 & 2 all things being equal. I'd be shocked if Essendon don't grab McCluggage.

Waiting on the McCarthy trade to wrap up before i discount Freo bidding on all our academy picks at their first pick.

Freo takes a boy who wants to come home after his first year in WA. Oh the irony.

given the apparent need to shed roughly 600K according to flog barrett has sent bigfooty into overdrive.

I think that trading out Tomlinson and McCarthy alone would already free up the necessary cap space as they are both on rather good contracts, Tomlinson especially as I have heard he is on close to $500K.

once you add marchbank, stewart and McKenna to the outgoing pile then we have already got more than enough cash.

Shhhh. Let the vfl lads have their fun.

We are about to ruin it for them for the next decade [emoji41]

Do we need to clear $600,000 for this year?
