Absolutely love the look of perryman! Looks a serious talent with his foot skills and ability to win 1 on 1's and read the play excellent.. Plenty of his kicks are already at AFL level in my eyes..

I am thinking he could be like a Yeo with much more consistent foot skills.. He is one that has stood out for the allies in the 2 games I have watched.. I wouldn't be against Brisbane bidding with our first round pick for him at 2, I think he is that good and has that potential. He would be the perfect replacement for Heath Shaw in 2-3 years for the Giants.. Run and carry from Williams and Wilson with Perryman the QB from defence

Footy Classified last night said WHE to Collingwood. Not sure how they expect that to happen.

Assuming Collingwood offer him enough money in personal terms, then I guess they are trying even harder to make sure they dont have a long-term forward line.

*shrug* 2018 first for their Daisy Thomas replacement ?

Browne's got a pretty good strike rate out of our club, but it'd be interesting if his source moved from GWS to Collingwood recently and he's getting inside info from that end now. Purely speculation.

Can they give away their future 2018 1st after already going the future route for 2017 1st?

ESSENDON could drop a draft bomb by bidding for a Gold Coast Suns academy player with its No. 1 pick, reports the Herald Sun.

While the Bombers are no certainty to receive the club’s first ever No. 1 pick, if they finished last they would consider bidding for Jack Bowes, a player likened to Brisbane champion Simon Black.

If the Suns matched the Bombers’ offer, Bowes would remain on the Gold Coast, giving Essendon the No. 2 draft pick. In other words, there would be no No. 1 pick in next year’s draft.

While a down and out club like Essendon would no doubt benefit from the prestige of a No. 1 pick, the club wants to boost equity in the draft to avoid academy talent going too cheaply.

It’s believed GWS academy product Jacob Hopper was a steal at pick No. 7 in last year’s draft.

Many established clubs are keen to avoid that kind of situation again.

A couple of things...

If Essendon bid on Bowes and Gold Coast match then THERE WILL BE A NUMBER ONE. He will be called Jack Bowes.

And what kind of situation needs to be stopped? A situation where an academy kid is rated in the top ten and goes in the top ten?

Spare me.

Some people are STUPID - just a pit they also call themselves "journalists"

That kid is clueless, he and his partner Clarke are a scourge on the industry. Just glorified gossiping VFL Patriots.

Hahahaha so it's the system's fault that Hopper wasn't bid on until pick 7 last year? Not the clubs who held the top 6 picks. Blame the academies and the draft system. Victoria - The Dumb Opinion State.

And 'no no. 1 pick' - oh dear... Someone tell them how the draft works...

It's almost like a fan wrote it for The Roar.

Seriously, if Essendon were considering picking Bowes, they'd consider him no matter where they finish.

...

Does it really matter if Hopper was pick 7 rather than say pick 5? I thought he went within expectations.

Ah, but the VFL media and all opposition BF posters go with the view that the highest that anyone rated an academy kid in the entire 12 months prior to draft day, irrespective of club needs or his actual worth on draft day, is his value for the purposes of smearing the academy system. You watch that Macreadie, Setterfield, Mutch, Perryman and Sproule will all be continually referred to as 'first round' or 'top 20' picks forevermore.

Back to 2016 list management ... I was thinking that the current push to merge the rookie list and main list presumably could have implications for GWS if instituted. Some favourable, some could lose flexibility, but nothing that I would lose sleep or complain about.

Our main list size is a range, reducing until 2019 when it is normal. Currently 42-46 plus rookies (let's call it 6 standard rookies), of which we have 42 + 2. This being the same total size of the normal squads (38 + 6), if AFL merged the squads GWS would be instantly compliant. Now, doing so wouldn't automatically restrict GWS - AFL could carry the same range over and make it a 'total squad size' range: e.g. 2016 would be 48 to 52, 2017 46 to 50, etc. But I wouldn't be surprised, given how well GWS are doing and other clubs' murmurings, that in making any change they said GWS meets the revised list size and abolish the variably-sized list. If this were to happen, although it would lose the club some flexibility, I'd hope they would just go 'Yep, no problem.'

Specifically the implication for GWS is in respect of the number of players in totality needed to be cut over the next 3 years. Instead of needing to cut a net total of 4 (i.e. 42 to 38 on the main list), the revised figure is zero. So, we would just need to cut the same number as brought on the list over that time. Hence, all the opposition BF posters' low-balling of trades 'because GWS has to reduce its list size' would be reduced. (I wouldn't say gone completely, simply because our list is younger and sprinkled with higher talent and less near-retirees than most lists, and I've no doubt posters would simply apply the same principle to the annual 'cut 3'.)

Ergo, for 2015 where I've previously advocated losing 5 and only taking 3 draftees, that would go out the window. If we moved on 5 then we should take on 5, and so on in the future. The 'so what' is WRT TPP and, of course, draft picks. If we trade for future picks, there's still flexibility in the GWS selection approach. Otherwise, we would need to keep live choices (which is easily done, although would reduce ability to trade for future picks) or could choose to take what would be the equivalent of a rookie selection using a pick sent to the end of the list. So, as an example, if we exhausted our early picks on Macreadie, Setterfield, Perryman and Sproule and didn't want to go into debt for Mutch, we could use an end pick on a (for example) Connor Owen-Auburn, presuming he's passed over by other clubs.

Will be interesting to see what the outcome is on the lists issue, and then how GWS react.

One thing to bear in mind that some of our salary cap concessions are consistent with the enlarged list size. If the list size concession is removed ahead of time and the salary cap goes with it, we may find ourselves out of compliance very unexpectedly instead of how the club would have planned it out over the next few years.

Nice little write up on possible future Giant in Perryman
COLLINGULLIE-Glenfield Park’s finals chances will be boosted by the return of All Australian under 18 footballer Harry Perryman. The Demons young gun will finish a big week by running out against Wagga Tigers today and has informed the Giants of his intention to play out the remainder of the season with Collingullie. Perryman is destined for an AFL career after a brilliant under 18 national championships where he was named All Australian, as well as most valuable player (MVP) for the Allies and NSW-ACT Rams. Perryman will spend a week at the Giants in school holidays then play a game with their reserve grade team before returning to see the year out at Collingullie.

Sounds like a kid with strong loyalties and a sensible head on his shoulders. Add that to his footballing nous and, despite some detractors about his ability to make it at AFL level, so would like to see him at GWS next year. Plus, it would be a great story about he and Matt Kennedy in successive years from a tiny town.
