It would be hilarious for the Academy haters if we went 'pass' on high bids, and they ended up at other clubs after what they thought was a force-bid.

If it's not best available we should do that. From what I can see Perryman is a priority, we should get Macreadie as his stock has dropped big time, the question mark is Setterfield.

I'm absolutely no expert but he looked a bit Jono O'Rourke in the games I saw however he had a big schedule and may have just been fatigued.

Craig Cameron said it will be purely based on talent ratings and needs so it won't just be Academy stockpiling.

Marshall is the one I really like on pure talent but Ben Ainsworth is the kid that would really compliment our forward line and list.

The Freo Board is desperately trying to push a Chris Mayne for Cam McCarthy trade.

Chris is 28 later in the year, slow as a wet week and can't kick. Bloke would not get a game for us.

Michael Walters makes sense. 26 next year so he does not want to go through a complete rebuild and waste the rest of his career playing for draft picks.

His game and age profile is a perfect fit, particularly as Pickett and Ahern have serious injuries to come back from and are unlikely to be a factor in the short to medium term.

Mayne has been a quality player, but agree this year he is more spud than stud

Freo could definitely use the two first round picks + McCarthy it would take to get Walters but could you guys afford the $800,000 a season to get him over there?

*sarcasm on* Yes, as if that deal goes through, then Fremantle will be paying the majority of his salary. *sarcasm off*

Now, can we kindly stop with the unrealistic bullshit about players who arent going to move under any circumstances ?

No he's not but I can't see him leaving Freo for the same money, you would have to offer $800k or there abouts to even get him thinking about it.

I wonder if we would entertain a deal with McCarthy and perhaps Pickett for Walters and maybe a lower pick?? An A grader for 2 potential a graders but both with clouds. Fits their rebuild model and our window model.

Just spitballing dont hang me.

Pickett and McCarthy for a small forward?? No way would I do that deal.

Pickett and McCarthy for a small forward?? No way would I do that deal.

The only reason for suggesting it is that McCarthy's value has dropped considerably.

I think it's really important to see how the inclusion of Dev changes the forward line because right at the moment it's still not functioning as well as we would like.

Sometimes having an embarrassment of riches can be problematic.

The lads will work it out, it's all part of the players understanding each other and finding a connection which comes with games.

Just thinking that we are in the window now so if there are points of potential weakness they need to be plugged.

Really like Walters because he has that breakaway speed which Pickett also has but we haven't been able to see yet.

Depends on where Pickett is at mentally. Does he want to hang around? If not, I would do that deal. McCarthy will be lucky to get a second rounder now unless WCE come into the mix seriously.

If Pickett is proper serious about giving GWS a crack, I would give Stevie J one more year and tether to Pickett to SJ and learn learn learn. So much to the point that I would give SJ pay bonuses if Pickett can meet benchmarks.

Are we not second in scoring goals to the Crows?
Doesnt mean we dont look to improve. I get it if Stevie J goes to coaching next year.

I cant really see why we'd ship out kids who apparently like it here in favour of someone who appears happy at their current club.

Only if it helps to facilitate a list improvement.

Before when we were just building the list it was about accumulating as much talent and seeing what came through.

Now we have a list capable of challenging it's about being decisive in applying the finishing touches.

3 parts still concern me.

If Davis goes down we are very vulnerable.
If Mummy goes down we're rooted, particularly at the tap.
Our Forward line is chock full of tall talent but doesn't function as well as it could perhaps because the players are too alike. As has been pointed out it possibly lacks defensive pressure although I think Dev is outstanding in that area.

I reckon this is the time to make some shrewd list management calls to get us to the promised land!

Then again...we probably get there anyway :)

I do get Davis thing, but we haven't really had a time this year when we didn't have significant numbers of tall backs unavailable. I'm not sure with a reasonable run with injuries we wouldn't be ok. Just a discussion point, I'm definitely hopin he's out there every week.

McCarthy out, Tomlinson, WHE, Marchbank out would free up about a mill. Stevie J would be about half mill. Bring in about 4 academy kids and go after Hurley. Davis and Hurley down back with Haynes floating around would be superb.

There's only one salary cap, and Id prefer it used to keep guys like Hopper and Steele and Lobb.

Dance with the ones who have brung us.

A catchy saying to counterpoint a catchy saying: talent wins premierships.

No way stevie J is on 500k. GWS gave him a lifeline. id say 350.

Needa get rid of a few players to afford shiel and co coming off contract. apparently Tomlinson and WHE are on some decent coin. Lucky Carlton is willing to take them off your hands.

Jist debating with a main board poster inisting we would want to trade Marchbank, WHE, Tomlinson and Steele for Dustin Martin. Am I missing something? Leaving the dubiois character and the price issues aside, the effect would be to push Hopper and Kennedy out as they couldn't get opportunities
