There's a good thread on the main board about the history of both the crows and port joining the AFL by Wookie for those that are interested in history. Not interested in the poop slinging as obviously it is an emotional subject for each side. Have a read, Wookie has done a cracking job.

Yeah? Adelaide managed to get 47k on Easter Sunday against the worst pulling Victorian team in the Kangaroos. You also managed to pull 50k over the ANZAC day long weekend. Yet only managed mid 30's on your final two Saturday night home games. I wonder why..

Come on.. we all know that Saturday Night is the worst time slot ever. I mean, the 41K crowd v WB in that slot was magnificent. We only managed 45K v Freo the week before in that same slot...

Was interested in the numbers, so quickly got the figures. The far right column is the crowd difference from the previous home game.

How has that answered why your fans didn't turn up when you were losing?

And there's nothing wrong with our crowds, don't deflect
They have some of the softest supporters in the AFL.

Our crowds didn't halve when we had to put up the rubbish displays under Robert Shaw.

They are all talk - but the crowd numbers speak for themselves - they are about 50% ban wagoners, whereas we would have only about 10% at worst.

Times have now changed Kane ......the media discussion on AAMI stadiums age had a dramatic affect on crowds ......crowd numbers will continue to become increasingly fickle

Ports membership are also a high % of neutral supporters looking to enjoy AO every week as AFC have sold out membership caps.

What is so funny here is you all keep banging on about something that is fact. Our supporters dropped off. Yes they did. What is there to argue about? In fact I'm not denying any of your points. Yes there was a massive dip in the years that followed 2012 and we yes thanks to KT we are now re-gaining ground. There would be no port supporter who isn't happy about the improvements. My comments were that those terrible times make these days even sweeter. Ups and downs part of life.
Fair enough about these days being sweeter than when you were terrible. I don't begrudge any Port fan (including my Dad) that stuck by the club in those times their enjoyment when Port is going well. What irks many Crows fans are the supporters that didn't stick by their club, who now go on about their love of the club and how great they are, when they abandoned them in their time of need.
That and their boasting about how awesome Port are in every way and how they are destined to win the flag every year, despite there being no evidence that this will happen apart from an aggressive media campaign assuring us it will. Try winning some games first, you don't see the Hawks telling everyone who'll listen that the cup is theirs. If you really believed it was, you wouldn't need to tell us.

On another non-Crows topic, it slightly concerns me that the Dusty Martin incident seems to have gone away with no word of punishment. Not a very good message to send. Is there an update to this situation? Are Richmond performing their own investigation now that the police have completed theirs?
But apparently telling someone they have nice eyes while at work is far worse.

Fair enough, the point I was trying to make was that much more is being made of a lesser incident than the Dusty one, which is not a good look for the AFL or the Tigers.

As a non-AFL issue, FWIW I think the Gayle thing is being made much bigger by certain interest groups. Not saying what he did was right or that he is a ripper bloke or anything, but sheesh is it really worth the frenzy it is getting? All the women at work laughed and said what's wrong with that.

We probably have different views about the Gayle one, but I certainly think Dusty should have the book thrown at him. Serious suspension.

I believe that the AFL *is* actually still investigating (I think I heard that somewhere).

What is the percentage?

Its not an exact % its an observation. When you go to a Crows game their doesn't appear to be a huge number of opposition supporters and crows supporters everywhere wearing Crows gear. At a port game their are a lot of people not wearing supporter gear or opposition gear. Even though Port have just as many members with us, Port showdowns still seem to have a huge turn out of Crows supporters as our showdowns do not have a huge amount of Port supporters in attendance. That to me is a dead give away that Port haven't magically increased their supporter base as they think they have.

Id hoped there was more on the 1990 stuff, but until someone actually writes a book about it - im surprised no one has already - or trove catches up to that era, then im stuck with what i can get. The SANFL history book "South Australian football story" book ends in 1983, and hasnt been updated as far as I can tell (unlike the WAFL history which is updated to 2003). Abernethy's book barely has anything on the 1990 stuff - and for what its worth is a disappointing read in any case.

If anyone has more information on it, or knows of a book I dont, Id love to hear about it.

Precisely. Apart from Charlie Dixon and the draw, what evidence have Port shown that they will magically snap back to better-than-2014 form? They finished ninth, lost to the two bottom sides, and Kern's plan has been found out. He is not fit to polish Alastair Clarkson's boots.

Didn't cause our crowds to halve though did they.

Port had an upswing in the last year at AAMI. Their 2013 home average was 26,915 (up from 2012's 19,911). 2014 became 45,029.

Our average home attendance in 2013 was 15K less than 2014 (from 33,703 to 48,046)

Isn't there a book about the creation of the Crows, released after our first 100 games?

What evidence?

Isn't the club telling anyone who will listen how fit the list is with so many PB's

Port seem to be the only club actively pumping up their time trial results, most clubs now chose to sit a little more silent on their pre-seasons
