Surely the fact that Lewis' punch connected with his arm before his chin makes no difference at all?

The AFL has made it clear that the intent doesn't matter, only the outcome. Lots of players have been done for accidental high contact when bumping, so why should this "accidental" punch in the jaw any different?

There are very reasonable arguments about not wanting a soft run into the finals, but on the other hand, hard crunching matches leading to injuries aren't great either...
