You and I both know that will never happen
never say never, having nearly double the amateur level club involvement is pretty significant.

we footy followers are loyal beyond the point of doing ourselves a disservice sometimes, but its not just grumpy Bigfooty posters complaining about the AFL's governance and the rising expense of going to the footy. Admittedly even if soccer in Australia grew to be the same size as the AFL I think they could very more than likely co-exist quite happily financially. I was actually surprised by the numbers in that study though, and I really think the AFL will need to buck its ideas up when it comes to supporting grass-roots football for a start.

Wow just wow.
...
You do know he was targeted because his personal information was leaked from his posting here? And you want to generate this same kind of attention?

Post away your details then. And good luck with that.

If I was new to this forum and someone asked if I was Alex, my first question would be "who's Alex?".

What is wrong with you? I posted a forum for women ??? you have the problem mate, not me. It was not club related it was meant to be a community notice. I will ensure I wont post such a thing on the Adelaide board again. Thanks for answering for all your BF teamates, I am sure they are proud to be answered by you.

:D

I posted a reasonable warning. I then followed up with a reasonable warning about the consequences of posting personal information. You chose to ignore this. But I can play all night , just like I did with Sam :)

I thought this was a forum for footy & other topics.

Not sure the chief will provide a forum filter on gender...

So women are not safe, and you agree with that?
Unfortunately this is the internet. It is my belief that women are targeted because of their gender due to the supposed anonymity. It is an unfortunate fact but there it is.

Why are you not safe?

We are on an internet forum, not wondering streets late at night... & even if you were, just let Ford know & he will infract anyone who endangers you...

I don't think that's quite fair.
That would be fine if going to the footy was free

Sure they got bazillions from the tv rights - our subscriptions pay for that

And I can't remember a year when our membership has gone down

In the end it's "the rest of "us that pay.

Sounds great. Let's lower the cost of memberships and stadium tickets. Doesn't make a lot of sense in Adelaide where the stadium sells out most weeks, but it would definitely be a good idea in Victoria.

Except, that isn't happening. The money the players want isn't money earmarked to provide a subsidised rate for fans. It's money going into the AFL coffers.

I'm more than happy for the AFL to come out and say "the players shouldn't get x% of our revenue because we want to take the game back to the fans and make footy more accessible" or "the players shouldn't get x% of the revenue because we want to spend that money on grass roots footy", or any other similarly worthy cause. But that's not what they're saying.

The AFL has an enormous wad of new revenue, and they've barely had to increase their expenditure to earn it - it's been won on the back of the popularity of the game and the advent of pay TV, two things which cost them effectively zero dollars in the here and now. That new money has to go somewhere. Either it goes to a worthy cause, such a grass roots footy, or it goes back into the AFL itself. If it's the latter (and by and large it appears to be) then I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect them to divide it among the various stakeholders at appropriate percentages arrived at by negotiation.

Then maybe Gillon should. Let the public decide.

But as Kane McGoodwin said the one thing Gillon wont do is make a decision.

You miss the bit where the AFL sunk a load of money in GWS and Gold Coast to have one extra game per round and open up markets in 2 of the strongest growing areas in the country?

Sorry, my fault i wasn't clear enough

I meant do you feel the same standards should apply to movie stars who earn millions on films that often flop or music stars who make squillions

Is it all celebrity wealth or just footballers you object to?

I think for a lot of people it's the latter and it's because they are so accessible which makes people feel they're just the same as me.

Taylor Swift, Jay Z, Madonna, di caprio, The Rock, Matt Damon, LeBron, Tom Brady these guys are so far removed they're myths, not real

Whereas footballers are much more accessible, they're not myths and they are very much real.

That I think is why people are so accepting of them being ripped off with tiny salaries from a very big pie
Those people you listed earn their money from a worldwide market and endorsements. Their pie is so big, AFL is barely a crumb. You can't compare them at all.

Soccer has been coming for 50 years.

It's never arriving.

Every 10 years or so a new generation comes up believing it's about to go seriously mainstream.

Soccer has never become a big game where it is not the big native interest.

The best AFL players are here, slightly shit wannabes, and a few hasbeens play soccer in Australia

A 3rd rate comp where the best players are on tv will never take over a code which is the best of its kind. One with its roots in the fabric of society established for a century and a half

I don't know about that.

Soccer won't ever be number one but it will take chunks out of AFL.

There are too many kids preferring to play it these days for it not to have some impact.

Throw in the popularity of FIFA on game consoles and the accessibility of all the European leagues and soccer will only continue to get stronger.
