4 premiership players for this cats from the 2016 draft in Parfitt, Stewart, Henry, and Z. Guthrie. Another cat B pick up in Mark O'Connor is a premiership player. Zach Tuohy also traded in for 6 total premiership players added in the period.

Of 10 draftees taken, 7 are senior listed footballers somewhere, including all 4 rookies. Good strike rate given they're now 7 years in.
But where do they rate in a redo? Only 1 would be in the top 10. Lots of very ordinary footballers have a premiership medal.

How well did Carlton do at this draft - absolute all-timer!

Traded in:
  • Caleb Marchbank (perpetually injured, including 4 games in the last 4 years, and frankly not very good when fit)
  • Billie Smedts (16 games, delisted after 1 season)
  • Jarrod Pickett (17 games, delisted after 2 seasons)
  • Rhys Palmer (1 season, delisted)
  • pick 48

Traded out:
- Zac Touhy (140 games and a Premiership for Geelong, and counting)
Note: we initially traded Touhy and 63 for pick 17 and Smedts. Then traded 17 for Marchbank, Pickett and a future second. Then traded the future second for 48, with some shifting of picks in the 60s around it all

Draft:
  • Pick 6 Sam Petrevski Seton
  • Pick 27 Zac Fisher
  • Pick 47 Harrison Macreadie
  • Pick 59 Cameron Polson
  • Pick 61 Tom Williamson
  • Pick 63 Patrick Kerr

Rookies: Kim LeBois, Alex Silvagni, Andrew Galluci, Ciaran Sheehan
We also bid on Setterfield at pick 6, then traded for him a year later.

6 years on and only TWO players out of 14 are still on the list. One is Marchbank (who must have photos of someone), the other is Fisher. Flip even 2 of the other choices and that would have a huge impact on the current team as those players enter their primes. Horror effort by SOS and the club (after striking gold the year before with Weitering/Curnow/McKay/Silvagni/Cuningham/Plowman and even guys like Wright/Kerridge providing value)

Honestly though Fisher is a jet. Vastly under rated by oppo fans

It's actually been a superb draft that's extremely hard to rank. There are so many decent to good players, it feels like every club made out like bandits.

IMO the top dozen are:

1) H. McCluggage (#3)
2) S. Bolton (#29)
3) T. Stewart (#40)
4) S. Darcy (#38)
5) T. Taranto (#2)
6) J. Simpkin (#12)
7) J. Ridley (#22)
8) R. Marshall (Rookie #10)
9) T. English (#19)
10) M. Lewis (#76)
11) N. Larkey (#73)
12) L. Ryan (#66)

Then there are the rest, which are impossible to rank properly:

W. Brodie (#9)
I. Cumming (#20)
A. McGrath (#1)
J. Scrimshaw (#7)
H. Perryman (#14)
P. Lipinski (#28)
O. Florent (#11)
W. Drew (#33)
Z. Fisher (#27)
B. Parfitt (#26)
J. Daicos (#57)
SPP (#18)
W. Hayward (#21)

W. Rioli (#52)
B. Ainsworth (#4)
L. Young (#49)
J. Graham (#53)

S. Draper (Rookie #1)
P. Ladhams (Rookie #9)

Josh daicos is underrated. Id have him 10th in that top 10. Was close to AA last year

By my count there are 44 decent to great AFL quality players to come out of that draft - surely that's the biggest return out of a draft to date?

Definitely a quality player, I should be clear that the "rest of" list isn't in any particular order.
Id rate him ahead of mitchell, larkey and ryan.
I know nick gets the plaudits for finding the ball, but josh has a lot more power to steam through traffic. He was awesome last night

He was superb last night. He's a class kick of the ball too.

But KPF over wingmen for mine. The ratings are a bit of a projection too as Lewis and Larkey will be top 10 KPF's by the seasons end (fitness permitting).

Plus J. Waterman and J. Rotham.

Z. Guthrie and J. Henry 2 more.
