NT Thunder and Swans reserves are quality sides. The others can be very thin if they have injuries, which GC and Brizzy have had a lot of.
Rough on Aspley, and to a lesser extent Sydney Uni on their day.

Young Tom Scully.

Personally, I'd prefer to keep him - how much are you proposing Melbourne offer the kid in personal terms ?

I'd agree with that comparison. The personal terms would be decided long before we'd hear about any interest I'd presume. You'd imagine if he was offered a deal that's both financially attractive, and presents more opportunities that GWS simply can't match with such a strong team.

Given we've done exactly that for the last 3 trade periods, you'd think we'd be pretty good at it by now.

Trade value, a future 3rd, potentially a future 2nd + a later pick if we can get GWS' 2016 second back. Gives them some points for next year (given they're stocked for this year) and means we have a pick in the draft before the 3rd round.

A million a year and we'll find his dad a cushy job.

And if his Dad said Stevie J has another year in him, you'd be happy too.

Young Tom, with his fantastical commitment to training and not drinking was a great hire :) and just took a pay cut to clear cap room ;)

What this guy said. Fyfe is better, but Hogan is more important to us (probably would be to Freo as well). Only need to cast your internal peepers back to 2014 when Dawes topped the cake tin for the year with 20 sausage rolls to see how miserable our forward line can get. Watts plays best as a third fiddle, too - better with Pedo and Hogan getting the attention. I don't particularly want to go back to watching us launch the ball into the 50 to a bloke with concrete hands and the turning circle of a glacier or equally to some lanky 16 year old grommet with spina bifida. Our main avenue to goal would be clearing the 50 and launching bomb after bomb into space for El Jeffy to run on to, should he feel so inclined. No thanks.
Thank **** someone managed to summarise this issue.

Whether Hogan is worth as much as Fyfe or 300 first round picks or whatever is immaterial. He is totally a required player for our developing forward line structure. And much as I love Jack Watts, him plus Jeffy plus a very young Weed aren't going to get it done. And Pedo, much as I like his endeavour, is not even a short term solution, even without his injury history or age.

Keeping Hogan is vastly important to Melbourne.

Interesting article on AFL.com.au about the players from each club who may be looking for opportunities elsewhere.

One name who caught my eye was GWS' Jake Barrett: "Barrett is a prolific ball-winner at NEAFL level and averaged 29 possessions per game this season, and was close to best on ground with 32 touches and two goals in the Giants' winning reserves Grand Final. At just 20 years of age he might be a handy pick up for a club looking to add to its midfield depth."

His NEAFL numbers this year are really impressive while a quote from Luke Power in this article on Barrett also caught my eye: ""He's got speed and endurance, which is a pretty important combination. You have players who have one or the other but the really good players have both."

Sounds like he's a well-rounded midfielder who's got a decent set of attributes. If we can get him for nothing or minimal outlay, he could be worth a shot.

IanW - any thoughts on Barrett's ability to become a genuine AFL-standard midfielder, and is he likely to leave the Giants?

He's a name various people have kicked around as a potential move.

Im pretty darn sure he wont be 'minimal outlay', as to move from a club in it's premiership window you'll need to offer cap room as well as playing time - if he was just offered 2 year deal at $150k a year, he'd probably stay and try and fight his way into the Giants side, so I'd be offering him enough to buy a house.

And he isnt just on your radar as a potentially pretty good player, so you'd need to find the trade currency GWS wants, which tends to be cap room and future picks :)
Lol let's be realistic, someone like this would be 15th in line for our midfield. We aren't giving up anything for him. Maybe Carlton will take a look.

Let's not get too arrogant about our midfield. Yes there's some talent in there but we're still lacking in pace and skills, which apparently Barrett does have. And with no decent draft picks this year, we'll be searching for a way to get more young talent in the squad.

I'm not suggesting he's going to be the next Patrick Dangerfield, but he could turn out to be a really solid midfielder.

Sure. But if we get him it'll be as a delisted free agent or with a late third/fourth round pick. Homeboy has played one AFL game and the rest of his footy experience is entirely in NSW. I'd back our recruiters in to make the most of a third or fourth pick tbh (Hunt, ANB, Hulett, McDonalds, Kent, etc) over someone even more speculative just because they're quick.

Does he have outside class though?

I need to start tracking the trade memes on here...

2016: Outside speed and class
2015: 23
2014: DRAFT OSCAR
2013: Still in shock over Roos

Of course, that's after the shock cancellation of the 2013 season that we all agree was a tragedy.

"He dresses well and has one point left on his license."

I certainly never said we should sell the farm to get him. We've got to look at ways to get talent in (especially with our first and likely second round picks gone for this year) and this kid could - or very possibly couldn't - be a bargain pick-up for us. He might be a DFA, he might be a fourth round pick, he may cost more.

One thing we can agree on is backing our recruiters - they spotted vandenBerg and Wagner from the NEAFL so they must assess that competition pretty closely and if they like the look of Barrett, I'll trust their judgement.

This is all bollocks but to be fair I'm getting drunk a bit early today and seem to be in an angry or dismissive phase.

I will leave Bigfooty for a short while and listen to Pink Floyd or something.
You seem like me, without the drinking.

Have a favourite track from Pink Floyd?

Soooooo many. Pink Floyd are more a concept group for a whole album then just one song. But I love them like nuts and I'm even a bit young for it. But tonight I keep replaying Money because it's a great song and maybe I might make some if I really believe

Edit: actually I sense over time that there is a mad hippy in you - or at least a guy that likes some of the music. We missed you in the meet up because you couldn't make it, but seriously do come along next time because we can even swap some albums

I think you'll be shocked to see how bland and boring i am in real life. But i do intend to come to the next meet up whenever that is, and wether my bank account permits it.

As for Pink Floyd, you are quite right, but i find myself listening to Comfortably Numb or Another Brick in the wall part 3 more than anything else. The Trial is okay too, but needs the whole of the Wall album to go with it

In school all of my mates used to listen to Aussie rock bands, meanwhile i liked Pink Floyd (and others that my mates didn't quite understand, mostly pommie groups). One night i introduced them all to Pink by showing them the Wall video, i think that they always looked at me a bit differently after that.

I have a soft spot for 'Wish you were here', it was the fav song of a close mate who died a couple of years ago and we played it at his funeral and wake.
But the album The Wall needs to be played in its entirety to get the full effect and meaning.

Helps to be baked too.
