Hey fellas can any of you give us some background on Sam Switkowski, it's hard to get a feel for a player from a 3 min highlight reel

Just very creative. Things happen when he gets it. Not high possies but good quality. questionable whether he can progress from a small pressure fwd to a mid. Quick by foot and hand. Kicking lacks a bit of penetration and polish. Good vertical leap I loved him at box hill and wanted us to take him last year.

His field kicking actually isn't horrendous and he usually hits targets when given time. But when he bulldozes through a centre clearance (and he does this just as well as any of the mids taken in the top 10) he usually just throws it onto the boot and kicks in hope. It's not a Langford scenario where he can't nail kicks under no pressure, but more his first instinct is simply to dispose of the ball.

A lot of his development will be centered around taking a second or two to assess options when he bursts out of congestion. If he learns this skill effectively then I honestly think he'll be an elite inside mid. If he can't then he'll go the way of Hallahan.

But one thing this kid does have is spirit. Has work ethic in spades and will constantly try to improve. It's that type of attitude that can really make a player.

Dangerfield has poor kicking efficiency when he barges through a centre clearance as well.

I saw some vision of Ross turning and kicking a goal from 50+ off a few steps when I did my preliminary youtube search of the guys we picked up. Being 190+ and a good long kick apparently off both sides is enough for me from a pick 70+. He seems to be one of those speculative high ceiling types that get taken around that range. Rarely come off but the guy has some tools.

The last few mid spots in the 22 should be pretty competitive this season. Hopefully Worpel coming in as a 'ready made' type can help put a rocket up the backsides of guys like Langford, Lovell and Cousins if nothing else.

It will be interesting to see if the Hawks target a KPP or ruck/forward in the rookie draft bearing in mind Vickery, Fitzpatrick and Surman have all departed.
I suspect we will be looking to draft or trade in a tall in the 2018 draft but may look for an "insurance policy"in the rookie draft.
Possibly the rumour about Close may eventuate or we will look at Olango.

I read on the drafts board that Jake Spencer is up for grabs. Surely we will.

I'm used to feeling like our batch of late picked, no-named, a**holes are a failure.

Buckenara had all three in his top 40 pre-draft...Worpel at 30, Moore at 33 and Ross at 38

It's all moot, but it means we haven't picked long-shots. We've got to be happy with what we got from our hand.

And when Jaeger comes good...and Hanrahan...

EDIT: AFL Draft Central all had them in the top 38 as well...yay!
