Sounds like Langford hey?

Interesting comparison, different build to Langford, he is more like a Sewell in terms of build, like Langford though, grunt work around the contest are traits that they both share, as are their lack of skill by foot, the kid has excellent character about him as well from all reports - He will get drafted no doubt, just don’t think he is one that I would go with if I was Wrighty

Thanks for the insight and I think you are spot on with your assessment.

I feel we are in need of a mature mid player which others have mentioned in this thread.

Unfortunately being a shit draft and us having late picks means these mature gun mids will be looked at sooner then usual.

It’s looked at as being a weak draft but like most other drafts, there is always some value in the mid to later rounds, it’s finding them that’s the challenge.

Who we end up with at 43 will be very interesting

If either of the KP Backmen in Clavarino or Balta are available then I would take them in a heartbeat. But they won’t be. So we need to take the best available player.
I’d like to see the Hawks pick players with something special about their game. Sure they will also have deficiencies (being picked at 43) but I'll back the Hawks program to minimise or fix those issues. They might not make it, but if they do, then they will have a weapon that they can use.
Pick 43 : A player with a weapon
Whomever is available from:
EDIT (Added 18/11/17): Jordan Butts: A clean skilled 196cm utility who marks well. Moves like a midfielder. If and when he puts on weight he could be a KPHF or B. Or he could become a midfielder ... a tall Nat Fyfe!!?? No obvious negatives.
Matt Guelfi: he can kick the ball 60+ meters with minimal effort, shows poise, OK speed, a good tank, sheppards and tackles. Looks an amalgam of Dal Santo and Trent McKenzie. Would be great on a wing. I don’t see his deficiency. Looks AFL ready to me.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-10-29/third-time-lucky-for-draft-pools-mr-fix-it
James Worpel: has great energy. Goes in hard and always looks to play on. The knock on his game is his kicking but to me he kicks really well when on the side ah-la Darren Jarman. Seems an easy fix. EDIT : this report says it is not his technique but his decision making. Essentially it says he should hand pass more often.

I don’t see him getting through to pick 43.

Matthew Day: Looks a smart footballer. Great hands. Nice kick. Not much wrong here and a lot right. The more I look the better he seems. Reminds me of Sloane. I cannot see a negative.

Tim Kelly: good speed. Inside / outside mid, or a forward. Clean hands. Very one sided but compensates well. At 23, late to mature. Will he be happy to relocate to Vic? How much improvement does he have left? ... I recon plenty.

Liam Ryan: Ooozes X-factor as a small forward. Great high mark and usually lands on his feet! Is he ready to move his family to Vic? Can he commit to being a professional footballer? I hope so. He recently said “he would be happy to go anywhere he was given a chance.”

Pick 68: Next best.
Whomever is available from above Or
Jack Roughsedge: A prolific ball winner as an inside mid. Had a significant operation on his leg (leg straightening!!!) but if the Hawk’s docs believe he will be OK then that is good enough for me.
Jack Petruccelle: Very fast, neat skills and a good leap. Tends to go missing during games

Pick 73: A Project player
Bayley Fritsch: a great jump but has had issues with injuries. Worth a punt
Oskar Baker: Good outside speed but raw. If he makes it he will take time.
Tony Olango: A ruckman with a great leap. Still very raw and will take time. Seems to have gone off the radar.
Ethan Floyd: outside run. Excellent kick. Good speed. No inside game.
Kane Farrell: outside run. Excellent kick. Good speed. Very one sided.
Harrison Petty: strong mark, moves well, has good skills and has the frame to add muscle to go with his height (195cm). Looks a possible full back. I don't see much wrong.

Picks 81 & 99: Pass, Pass

Edit: post Ty Vickey's retirement: Initial thoughts were that we would have to pick an extra player or upgrade Conor Glass at pick 81 but GW says Vickery will stay in the Primary list for 2018 and so no upgrade is required.

Category A Rookie: The new rules allow Cat A rookies to effectively play as senior players
Mature agers are the go.

Edit: post Ty Vickey's retirement: Any capable mature age power forward or forward ruckman: e.g. Zac Clarke or Michael Close

1st: Tom Lamb. A 21yr old, 193cm wingman with good hands and a huge tank. The question is on his professionalism. Worth a punt.
2nd: Anthony Brolic: A 21 year old smart forward who can go through the middle. Deserves a chance
Or...: Michael Close: A 23yr old forward / ruckman delisted by Brisbane.
3rd: Dallas Willsmore: The Hawks have already promised to re-rookie Dallas.

Other options:
Brandon Starcevich: sticky hands, seems a smart footballer & good on the inside. Nice kick. A lot to like. Should probably be at our pick 68 or higher.

Also: Hamish Brayshaw, Sam Collins, Ben Cavara and Sam Gibbons.

Cat B Rookie:
Changkuoth Jiath (CJ) ... Looks really athletic but also very raw (skills need a lot of work). A great Cat B rookie.

Do people know about these players?
Hayden McLean (for mine he moves like a tall ruckman but is too small (196cm) for afl), & Bailey Banfield

Adam Sambono: looks a very lively small forward with good lateral movement. His naturally slight frame may limit him to the forward line.

A combo of Tim Kelly, Liam Ryan & Matthew Day would conclude a ridiculously good 2-yr Off Season for us.

Agreed. Last year was awesome with Harry, Ollie, Cousins and Lewis. This year, in a considered weak draft, there are certainly some late gems.
We will not necessarily get what we need (KP players), but I think we will get players who have talent. 2018 is our time to get our KP players, be it through free agency or the draft.

Need to look at off-season ‘holistically’ & over a relative period.

Sure, we grabbed Ollie, Harry, Cousins & Lewis last year, but we also grabbed Mitchell (our Best Player in 2017) & O’Meara.

KP Players? Nash as a project, as is Lewis - Vickery.... who knows yet; but holistically, we’ll have to wait until 2018 Off-Season is done as I’ve every confidence that we’ll grap at least 1x KP Player as a FA next year, if not more.

Would not have thought so no.

Knightmare has him very late/rookie.

Fox Footy rate him a 40+ prospect.
Riolinwithpunchs: you clearly rate knightmare's thoughts and yet he does not have Garner in the top 30. But he has Warpel going at 14. Your message is Inconsistant. Which is it?

I have a hint of a thing for mature age draftees.

Having said that, before getting an Oskar Baker, Tim Kelly (unlikely with all WCs 2nd rounders) type the Hawks should just draft another Sicily and be done with it.

Love the recycled rookie idea above and there's seems more than enough talent overall in this draft to leave with another strong group of players

As I posted a while back, a friend spoke directly to one of our recruiters and they think there’s quite a few gems hidden in this draft.

I rate KM over my opinions that's for sure.

My personal opinion is that a club will take a punt on Sambono before our 2nd pick.

Apparently the last 7 premiership team's have had at least 2 mature agers on there list so it makes sense.

I think he is a rookie pick. Cant see him putting enough weight on to contribute at afl level. I dont buy the hype on him at all

Yeah i tbought the same about his weight but you cannot argue with the talent.

For someone who has only been playing footy for 3 years there is a hell of a lot to work with.

I vote for Jackson Ross, could be a ripper!

Sounds like a very promising prospect.

Anyone who can get 24 disposals and 5 goals in a game can play.

Hearing from an AFL recruiter that Kelly won’t last past pick 20. And that Worpel is a 3rd rounder. Wonder if it’s us who are considering him.

That's interesting about Kelly. I cannot see him getting past West Coasts million picks they have before 40.
