LOL you need to tag my name after Worpel as well. Matter of fact, it would just be easier doing a dedicated Geelong Falcons weekly post adding Knightmare's commentary.

Geelong Falcons have a terrific midfield group and they've been a joy to watch early season.

Their midfield dominance against Eastern a few weeks back was ridiculous. It took Sam Hayes (for Eastern - best ruckman in this draft by a long shot) taking the ball out of the ruck and kicking it forward for a clearance for Eastern to stay in the match and win any clearances at all, it felt.

Geelong and Sandringham while it's not realistic to watch both clubs each week, they're the two clubs with the talent who will get mentions every week. Both clubs can get 5-10 players drafted. I'll make both clubs a big focus during finals time, with both clubs sure to go deep into the finals.

G'day Knightmare. Seeing as you're here, what is your opinion of Gryan Miers.

G'day Knightmare. Seeing as you're here, what is your opinion of Gryan Miers.

Miers looks draftable. Clean at ground level. Skills pretty good. Brings the pressure defensively. Can find it up the field.

Not an ultra x-factor type, not much of a marking target and pace more good than great.

Overall, he benefits greatly from that dominant Geelong midfield. But he pops up regularly in games doing good things. So he's one I'd say keep tracking and consider late/rookie draft with continued strong play.

Still keen on Jack Higgins. Going along to the Stingrays/Chargers game on the weekend to check out him and a few other prospects.

Worpel, 32 disposals 20 of them contested with 11 clearances and 9 tackles. As well as goals. Geese this is exactly the type of player we are after.

Northern Knights player Jack Petruccelle is the one rising up draft boards verrry quickly, described byCal Twomey as similar to Petracca. from a Basket ball background, has a lot of pace, really looking forward to see how he goes through U18s

Yeah I quite like Petruccelle. Watched him play in the U17 All Stars match last year on grand final day. He has serious pace. He has the potential to move up the draft boards considerably.

Yeah im still pretty keen on Worpel. From the start of the year i though he was the type of player we need. Kinda hoping he drifts down into the teens and we can nab him then, leaving our first (likely top 3) pick hopefully for a real top stand out talent.

Bonus with Worpel is that he is ready to go from day 1. Wont be a 2-3 year wait with him.

Isn't there a knock on his disposal skills by foot? If so he may not fit into the Fagan plan.

I know briztoon is a fan, what do you think briz?

I'm hoping he falls to our second round pick.

His kicking is a concern, and he is working on it. Let's see where he's at by the end of the season.

There's a long way to go still this season, so we really are yet to see a decent big board with close to accurate player rankings.

But, at this stage Worpel is more in my "plan b" draft scenario. Top of my Lions centric draft wish list is Luke Davies-Uniacke (inside mid with very clean hands) and Lochie O'Brien (outside mid, possibly the drafts best ball user, lightning pace) .

Thanks, I was just looking at the phantom drafts board and noticed that D_P_S has Sam Hayes as his new number 2 in the rankings, it would be a dream for us if he was a consensus number 1 at the end of the year, we could have other clubs clamoring for our pick 1. Particularly if Schache stays and Ballenden is rated in the 10-20 range.

Hayes would have to be considered a proper KPF/Ruck for that to happen. If he's viewed as a ruck first, able to rest forward and kick goals, then I think he's rated in the back half of the top 10.

We saw English slide last year, even though on talent he was rated by most draft observers as a top 10 talent. He only dropped on peoples draft boards when they started factoring in what they were hearing from clubs.

It's early, but I would have picks 1, 12 and 19 on the table if it could get us back Luke Davies-Uniacke, Lochie O'Brien and enough points to match a bid on Ballenden and able to draft Jack Payne where ever or if he's rated.

Man, I really really really hope the AFL introduce live pick and player trading on draft night this year. If they did, I could see us doing some good work early.

If Schache leaves, then my current dream scenario is Darcy Fogarty, Lochie O'Brien, Ballenden, James Worpel and Jack Payne.

Which of those three have, in addition to talent, the most amount of AFL ready body size, mongrel, toughness and competitive fire?

After yesterday's effort, the Lions really need some young blokes with size and a mean streak, ala the Robbos.

Get the one who can burst away from pack and can kick for sure.

Gryan miers plays football at my local club. Geeze I'd love to have him play forward pocket with the lions. Kid was 17 and broke into a gfl preliminary final team and kicked something like 6 goals. Was insane

So we just need to find another GAJ then. Even Judd and Dangerfield can burst away but can't kick.

Aiming too low there - get GAJ, mixed with Isaac Smith's pace and a bit of Cyril Rioli x-factor sprinkled on top.

Looks like Ballenden has already started the academy slide down the draft boards.

Would love to see Ballenden have an enormous season and be the standout number 1 but only if we have the number 1 pick. Then we go for someone else and take Ballenden when he's bid on at number 2.

Imagine the whining from down south.

Depending where our next pick is we could go into debt for next years first rounder in that scenario.
