Davies-Uniake looks very likely.

Dangerous year to have the first pick.

Fwiw I think they both go in the top 5

Fair enough mate, probably will be the case.

Personally I don't have Dow in my top 5, his kicking is a big issue for me.

I understand that inside mids will have lower KE, but it just irks me that I've seen him be all on his own and completely miss targets.

This is 100% correct, the top 5 - 10 players for me are all pretty even talent wise.

Could make a case for all of them to go #1.

Bishop do you think Bonar will end up warranting a first round pick? If not, like the poster above, where do you potentially see him going? (I know it's pre-draft combine but still) And if his injury history is a worry do you think clubs are more willing to take a risk on him earlier with players like Witherden killing it, and potentially Graham too? I Like the look of him but we only really have 2 first round picks, and then 2 late thirds which we're looking to use on Naish I assume.

Also who do you see as the player who will be the "best" player from the draft? (don't have to give reasons or an in-depth answer just curious) For me, from looking at highlights and being an "armchair scout" Darcy Fogarty is the one, whoever he drops to is going to be very lucky if his knee doesn't cause further trouble.

I like the look of Balta too, I hope we manage to snag him as I believe he will be one of the better players from the draft if we get him. What pick range do you see him going?

I think Bonar could push inside that top 20 - but one that needs to be watched closer over the next few weeks. Has always been touted highly from those in the know - and when you have 2 picks you can certainly take that risk that some other clubs may not be able to.

I wouldn't take Fogarty - Aaron Francis 2.0 -- Best player in the draft for me... Adam Cerra.

I like Balta - in that 10-25 range. Some clubs will like him & others I can see not touching him. I'd take him at our picks nevertheless.

Re: Naish bids.

Ideally we knock The Cats off on fri night then Syd take care of them the week after. that would give us pick 14 at worst. would that put us at less risk of a bid before our 1st pick at least?

Friday week is more important than normal because of this.

From what I've seen and heard of Bonar, a haul of Balta, Bonar and Naish would be ace.

Hard to guesstimate who will be around by the time we get our picks, maybe the interstaters will be looking for points and move us up the order. Or, if its a thin draft maybe we can trade a first rounder this year for a first rounder next year.

We still need that tall forward and ideally not one 18 who will take 4 or 5 years to nurture. He doesn't have to be a Lynch or Patton, just a 194 to 200 with good hands.

Thing that worries me about Balta is generally KPFs are taken high, why? Because playing as a key tall requires you to be able to read the play and have good football IQ which is harder to teach than say endurance. And in the phantom draft trial run Balta's running patterns were said to be the thing holding him back, and he's been criticised for his lack of football IQ. Running patterns are often a thing which is part of football IQ, in the sense of having a feel for the game and knowing where and when to run. He sounds like a great athletic talent but he also needs to read the play to be a good KPF at AFL level. Not saying he can't but food for thought nonetheless.

Fogarty could also turn out to be Francis, yes. But he could also turn into another Charlie Curnow, another 192cmish utility who lead people to wonder where he fits in at AFL level.

Which is why he would be available at 20 instead of top 5.

One of those gambles, that separates the good & great recruiters.

Bloody exciting to have two firsts.

Anyone notice how Gale said we have two first round draft picks "at this stage"? I don't think we will end up holding two. Not just because of that but also because of the potential for a first round pick for Naish and also because the club isn't in rebuild mode at all. We'll be upgrading or trading them out for some type of doozy.

I've said this ad nauseam already. But if you hold two teens picks, you are in an incredibly strong position because a side who finished bottom four is always looking to rebuild & has greater need for those picks.

You take the highest pick you can get, but then you also load up on "dud" picks to fill the coffers for whatever other purpose you need based on points.

In our case we want a rolled-gold prospect (top 5 pick) plus a third to get us the points to get Naish with later picks.

If Naish gets bid on at say pick 20, add in the discount, we will need to cover points for pick 25ish. We can do this with two thirds & later picks or future picks.

Could end up with a top 5 pick, Naish & a late round developing defender.

Love that we are starting to get smart.
It gives me wood. Mason or Easton would be fine.

Curnow was seen as slow with a bad leap and a poor kick. Probably the area Curnow was better than Fogarty at this age is endurance
that can be worked on.
Curnow was seen as a bloke athletic enough to play mid or CHF. Fogarty is a slug.
