i thought lids gonna retire for his form hasn't been that great (injuries and age) , so hopefully dusty enjoys syd considering his lived there( just dont go to any thai places)
Lids has just taken a lot of time to get his calves right for the back end of the year. Unless something happens through the finals series, he's no chance of retiring now. Will need to keep working on them over the off season to ensure he comes back to training in good nick to not suffer any more setbacks. Really don't expect to get Dusty. Need a fair chunk of extra $ to break a guy out of their existing team (as Norths have offered to both Dusty & Josh), so given that we're constrained for Josh & hoping for team loyalty, I see no chance of offering enough to Dusty. The only chance I see we'd have was if Dusty wanted out of the limelight (and harsh glare) of Melbourne - but he'd still want a big chunk. I don't really badly want Dusty (although I accept that he would be brilliant for us), I do really want to keep Kelly and most of our kids - the current crop are the basis of a brilliant team provided we can unlock that which causes it to gel.

He's also contracted. That's the big stink Pike was having at Brisbane for Fagan daring to even mentioning him.

Don't we always have an issue with others targeting our contracted players? Bit on the hypocritical side of things don't you think?
I don't know that it is such a big deal. Pyke got asked a question by the media about Fagan's comments re drafting CC. He offered a reply based on their questions. Not much in it really.

Pyke got labelled a hypocrite in the media and by opposition supporters alike, using Gibbs as the example. Problem is that the commentary about trading for Gibbs, also a contracted player, started on the first day of the trading period and not 3 weeks out from the final series.

Adelaide has had full blown media saturation of potential trade coup's of Jake Lever and to a lesser degree of Mitch McGovern. It's fair to say most people are getting a bit sick of the constant speculation. You guys should understand this considering the Melbourne clubs trying to pry Kelly, Hopper, Smith, Whitfield etc out and back to Melbourne surely?

We have also lost some talented players. The difference is we haven't had a top 10 draft pick since Adam was a lad.

1- dont do that hysteria picks bullshit. Makes you seem bullflog like.
2- look at your own start up and that was for a heartland state based club.

That's true and your list management and ability to develop talent certainly deserves respect.
Believe me we get the frustration of people speculating about key players in your side. Particularly when you've got a finals series to worry about and some clubs supporters can focus on trade week and the draft.
I was musing about the possibility if a mutually beneficial arrangement though not a raid.

Wasn't my intention to do either. I was trying to make the point that Pyke's comments were blown slightly out proportion and the media made something out them that wasn't really there. Nothing more.

Good luck on the 6th

Surprised with some of the names people think the club would target
I do agree a small forward would be a target and maybe a depth midfielder but Martin would cost too much in terms of salary an dia Puopolo although talented wouldn't be interested in Sydney unless it was for money which would be better spent on current players I feel

and Kennedy for pick 3?

Got an email at 1pm:

Young gun GIANTS midfielder Jacob Hopper has pledged his future to the club after signing a two-year contract extension.

One of the best up-and-coming midfielders in the game, Hopper is set to form a crucial part of the GIANTS midfield in the years to come after re-committing to the club he first joined in 2015.

Hopper has played the last four games leading into finals to take his games tally to 20 in his first two years.

The 20-year-old Academy product made the announcement in front of hundreds of GIANTS members and fans at the club’s open training session on Saturday at the WestConnex Centre.

“I love the club and how they’ve embraced me and my family so it was an easy decision to recommit,” said Hopper.

“This is my home and where I want to play football. I’m so excited for what’s to come with this group and I absolutely want to be a part of it.

“Heading into finals there is a really good buzz around the place and we’re all excited for the challenge ahead.”

I assume that means that he'll be elevated from the rookie list - or did I hear somewhere there are no more rookies anyway.

Good to see. I like both players and am more than happy to see them stay. Good to see them want to hang around, even knowing they'll have limited opportunities.

Although Lloyd... he's only 25 and if Dev does leave, he's a defensive forward who knows where the big sticks are.

So with the announcements of Simpson and Lloyd I would be interested in others thoughts on the other OOC players apart from Smith/Kelly and Kennedy
I would assume Mzungu will retire and surprised he hasn't made an announcement for his future and then it is down to Reid and MDB
I think most are in agreement that MDB gets a 1 year contract but I feel with Lloyd re-signing it leaves one spot open for that mature depth mid/forward between those 2 or do others feel the list could carry both for next year?
Also the fact that they announced only those 2 re-signings when I would have Reid in that category and Maybe MDB is where the doubt comes from
