Doubt the Dees will be looking for a KPP unless they're intending to offload someone or they have concerns about either Hogan or Weideman.
The Demons are going hard at Lever so I don't think it's out of the question.

Tom McDonald, Jessie Hogan, Jack Watts, Max Gawn, Oscar McDonald, Sam Frost, Sam Weideman and maybe Jake Lever as well.

We have Grundy, Moore and McClarty minus vets, it's fair to say the list management team have destroyed this list and we need a minimum of 3 quality talls asap.

He was still only 13 this year playing in the under 15s, so we have another 4-5 years to wait. 2021 or 2022 drafts depending on when he turned 14.

Nick Daicos seems to be getting younger! I thought he was 15 earlier this year.:(

Its gonna be a long wait for this one to come through...Cant wait for a dedicated thread to start up, so we can track his every move (not serious!).

I agree with the mindset overall, but only the bolded are genuine AFL quality currently. The other three I wouldn't chase so whilst they're in a better position than us they still have work to do.

What's he look like as a forward?

Can only go off what i have been told and read re his forward work.

But from what I have been told he is equally competent as a forward as he is in defence they also used him through the ruck but I doubt that will be asked of him at AFL level being only 194cm.

There is an article on him about his versatility here:

NOAH Balta set tongues wagging with a matchwinning performance for Calder Cannons on Sunday against Northern Knights.

The versatile big man booted two decisive goals in the final quarter of his side’s come-from-behind 12.11 (83) to 10.6 (66) victory at Highgate Reserve.

Balta started the match at centre-half-back and also spent time in midfield, finishing with 15 disposals, eight marks, seven tackles and six hit outs.

Cannons talent manager Ian Kyte said Balta’s best match of the TAC Cup season had impressed a host of recruiters in the crowd.

“They are very keen on him and a couple of recruiters suggested he might have pushed himself right up the draft yesterday with that game that he played,” Kyte said.

Balta played senior football in the Essendon District Football League last year and has been named in the Vic Metro squad for the Under-18 National Championships.

He is expected to fill a key defensive post in the carnival, however Kyte said Balta had the potential to be a “big-bodied midfielder” at AFL level.

“That versatility I think is going to go a long way I think to him being an interesting draft pick at the end of the year,” he said.

“A lot of clubs are talking about him, wanting to see where he is going to play.”

The 194cm, 92kg prospect, who has been involved in the AFL Academy, has booted 23 goals from 15 TAC Cup matches in the past two seasons.

Balta has averaged 14 disposals, four marks and three tackles per game this season, but has increased his output to 18 possessions, seven marks and five tackles in the past two weeks.

“He was in our best two or three players early in the day with his work down back and then when he went forward (he) turned the game in the last quarter,” Kyte said of the Knights’ match.

“He went into the middle for a couple of stoppages. I thought he really changed the game.”

Balta was adjudged Calder’s second best player in Sunday’s win, behind skipper Brad Bernacki who gathered 35 disposals.

No like Loki?

Not a fan snoop. His kicking is worse then Tooveys when he started out and he also at *times* has moments of being "unco".

If we were talking a later rounds pick then I'd start looking at him but not at 6 or in the teens. You can get his type all through the draft especially players with average footskills.

I think he is being talked about due to the lack of quality in this draft, much rather Balta or Brander if we are going down that path.

Not denying he's a gun (I rate him) but the writer of this article works for the Cannons (not that it's not accurate, Tim's a great bloke) so just keep that in mind as his role is to talk them up as much as possible :)

As I've said I'd prefer him over Naughton. Versatility is a huge plus. Good footballer, not a great deal between the ears though. Think Cloke ;)

Was talking to a mate who's father has a long history in recruiting and coaching at U18 level, His old man reckons that while not much separates this years top 6 or 7 Eastern Rangers forward Jaidyn Stephenson could very well be the pick of the bunch and has real Fyfe like qualities, He also said with his abilities all he will need is some size and bulk and look out he could be really special.
Thats enough for me I want him!

I'd take a guy who will have the equal career of Cloke in a heartbeat, as long as his dad isn't his manager.

I'm back on page 24 in reading this thread so forgive me if this has been discussed but I did want to ask the question before I get to the end and forget.

We talk about Lukosius and King being extremely hot property in next year's draft. And I don't doubt they are. But how likely is that to stay the same between now and 2018 draft?

This time last year Jaidyn Stephenson was the next big thing. He ignited the debate on why we can't draft underage players who are ready for the club environment and train them while they finish their schooling.

Now? Well he's still a talent but it's become apparent that he's not likely to go at number one. Whether he's dropped off slightly or others have gone past is something I can't answer. But it begs the question of these guys we're talking about next year.

We could still very well get one at pick 10. Or we may come last and pick someone we haven't spoken about because he's gone past them.

I wouldn't be trading away good players to get into next year's top 3 and I wouldn't be trading away our 2018 first not knowing what it's going to be.

Just my 2 cents.

While there's always a chance Lukosius and King could drop and others may close the gap, I just think the dominant display of football they have played this year is a head of what Stephenson showed last year. Those two boys would be neck and neck for the number 1 pick this year. Now that probably says a lot more about this years draft crop but there are some seriously talented 17 year olds this year. If some of them surpass Lukosius and King you'd be pretty confident you'd be getting a good player in the top 10.

Definitely agree that we shouldn't trade top players for draft picks just for the sake of it and I would be pretty annoyed if we traded a top 10 pick because there a chance we could find next marquee player.

Just quickly on Stephenson I think he has every chance to still go top 5 in this draft and while he probably won't go number 1 he still has a very good chance of being the best player of the draft. His last month at TAC cup has been very strong.

If you're going to suggest Jake Lever, you can't leave out Langdon and Scharenberg who are similar heights in the same role. Cox is also a reasonably good footballer, and better than Weideman.

I think Balta is a bit like Moore - not that this is a bad thing but we have a versatile tall who can cover areas, we need a #1 tall forward and Balta isn't that. I'd rather draft elsewhere than go for Balta, especially at Pick 6. With two picks in the teens, then I'd maybe be interested.

Nearly all of the discussion here assumes that moore's future is on the forward line. It may be, but I'm not so sure. If he in fact becomes our key defender, then the forward line requirements change a bit. Cox and Reid would seem to be enough big guys. Perhaps we should not be so fucussed on a new key forward in this draft.

Nooooo way! Playing the game that Moore is a long term FB makes our KPF state even more dire with Reid's time limited (and realistically one serious soft tissue injury from the end) and Cox still unproven. We literally have no other options in the role with White gone.

Balta is a lot more capable of finding the ball than Moore and seems to be used as more of a defender in TAC from what I can see. KM likens him to a better version on Jonathan Marsh. I think if he's used as a defender he would be an excellent compliment to McLarty, and he would provide valuable run and carry too from defence.

Is that what we need though? I think Scharenberg can move into that run and carry role - we should wait for his development to start making calls on these tall, but not quite tall enough to play key defence, defenders in the draft.

Wat? You really reckon Scharenberg is quick enough to provide run and carry from defence?

Are we watching from parallel dimensions, because the Scharenberg I watch is pretty bloody slow, while Balta is an athletic freak.

Go to the 1m mark of this vid. If Scharenberg is capable of that kind of play, running from half back and putting the ball down to full forward ill eat my hat, and Balta can do it while filling a key position role.

His performances at champs were excellent but you are right his foot skills at Champs werent great but have seen few of his WAFL games and been v v good.

I'd take at 14 but do have Brander ahead of him and line ball with Balta. Naughton more consistent and you can see his role. Still some question marks on best role for the other 2.

Think I mentioned in my post was hot on Brennan Cox last year and we might have missed one there. Really like Petty so if we did, swap 6 for two teen picks, get a pick around 25 for Fasolo and then maybe used Broomhead to trade up the 36 pick to the mid 20's then I would happily go;

14 - Balta

16 - Walker / Brayshaw / Obrien / Fogarty / Allen

25 - Petty

26 - Wooller

54 - Paton

78 - Brown
