Yes. That's the business of drafting. If you think that scenario is more likely then you draft Brander or Balta, or whoever you are referring to, over Cerra. If you think it's more likely that Cerra becomes a champion mid, then you draft Cerra. The teams who draft well are the teams whose speculations are the most accurate or the luckiest.

no...his kicking is ok...just needs to work onit a bit more but can see him being an elite kick at some stage...his goal kicking is above average...he s a gun

I've only seen Stephenson live once and that was GF day in the all star game. He was clearly and outright best on ground and won the medal. I was sold on him the second he won a contested ball on the wing, burst through the middle out running three opponents then goaled on the run from 55 out.

If he's available at six I won't argue if we take him.

Balta won't likely be six. I don't often find myself agreeing with Terry Wallace but his description of Balta today was the best I heard. Described him as a bit like a "deer in headlights". He has a raking kick but even looking at the highlights (sums up him in most games) he has that tendency to look straight ahead and narrow his view. Basically he will nearly always kick long straight or if short it's usually lateral. He nearly never kicks that 45 degree kick which can upset zones. That's my knock on Balta.

Sounds a bit Jonathan Marsh like. Is that a closish description?

Been a fan of Stephenson since last years TAC cup, has genuine star quality. Doesnt fill a need but the genuine talent is hard to ignore, a game breaker.

Be ok taking Balta at 6 too, i know its probably early for him because hes a bit rough around the edges but he is so athletic and could turn into a rebounding key back. Reminds me a bit of a young Alex Rance, just needs to work on his flaws and know his limitations until he improves in those areas ie composure. But the rewards for taking him could be fantastic, its a risk but if we did go tall would prefer over Brander.

I like Coffield. Think he’d be a great pick up for the backline but unsure how it works with Murray. I’d definitely play Coffield in front of him though.

If Coffield is gone I would take the risk on Fogarty, I’ve been a fan since day one and while he’s got question marks I’ll back him in.

It’s going to be an interesting draft with Fremantle and their pick 2 and 5. It shapes the whole top 10. Secretly hoping Rayner magically gets to us.

General Defender/Outside Midfielder (Northern Knights/Vic Metro)

Scouting notes: Composed midfielder who is very good under pressure. Reminds me of Hugh McCluggage where he has plenty of time with ball in hand in the contest. Clean user on his right foot and his defensive efforts are strong where he floats around and wins the ball at ease. Has a burst of speed which he often will utilise in defensive 50 when playing the role of a general defender. Some think he will end up as an inside midfielder at the next level.

In the mix: Few whispers of the Pies meeting with Aaron Naughton on the weekend and they may pick him if he is available here. Coffield is the best player available and should be able to transition into an inside midfielder in the future.

Similar athleticism a bit less pace. Balta more versatile though ie. probably has more impact through the middle and can plug holes anywhere. Marsh was ok as a forward but practically no impact as a mid.

I have seen Federico live a couple of times......he is a beauty but not a need for us.

Yeah I think he’ll feature later on in the draft. He played for the Northern Blues as their 23rd man so there’s the connection for the Blues.

Don’t think so. Probably would have surfaced by now. Not sure why the AFL didn’t put it up.

If the talk of trialling Moore at CHB during preseason is accurate then you'd think we are looking at Fogarty or Brander as that key forward to develop.

Dunn, Moore and McLarty down back with possibly Sam Collins as depth.

Reid, Cox and Brander/Fogarty forward.

If we go Brander then you have the option of swapping he and Moore if need be.

Actually l think he could help, as we really only got Adams as a pure inside mid, as degoey is both and Greenwood l believe is only got 12months left. If he is good, that would free up Pendlebury steel and treloar to go more our side where there skill and pace( treloar) would be more of a benefit to us.
