25 players coming out of contract.
Twenty. Five.
Players having 'career years' just makes that worse, not better.

Lets hope Port do make it to prelim and we knock them out at AO.

The pressure will be immense to keep all those players, because in their deluded fantasy they were so close to a gf.

Ha
They've had no injuries this year and have no excuses with their **** easy draw.

I hope Port finish bottom of the top 8 the next two seasons.

You just know that will mean Kern will keep his job into 2019/20/21. They wont make the tough decision to not offer him another contract if they play Finals the next two years.

At the risk of sounding like Allen Scott, Kern will never win them a flag. I hope he becomes a decade long coach for them.

this has been my dream scenario for some time too.

I definitely think they're stronger with Bassett there though, I'm hoping Hinkley is there long enough for Bassett to get poached when a Hardwick, Buckley, B. Scott, Eade gets the sack.

I don't tbink Bass has set the world on fire at AFL level.

He took an AFL system to his SANFL club and had success.

If he was in demand as an assistant he would have stayed in Melbourne.

Also wasn't Lade effectively sacked by Richmond. Same scenario. You don't move back to SA as a first choice.

Afterall when was the last time we had a truly great Assistant Coach who was first an Assistant in Victoria?

this is true, I'm not as big on him as some Norwood people are but I don't think you could discount the role he and Lade may have played in their little upswing this year.

I also realise its a case of "who have they beaten anyway" but even so, they've performed above my expectations.

They have pretty much beaten the calibre of team they beat last year.

The improvement is purely luck of the draw and playing Sydney and Freo when they were bottom four calibre sides.

If they beat Geelong this week I might change my tune.

I have a feeling they may have to offer Wines a long term million dollar contract. We may get SPP after all. Would love to know the length and $$ value of the following contracts:

Loebbe
Gray
Boak - Have heard they paid him ridiculous $$'s to keep him when Geelong came calling
Ryder
Dixon
Hartlett

Not sure where else to put this

Have noticed about half dozen OAK iced coffee adverts in bus shelters around Melbourne with Travis Boak in a full Port Adelaide kit flogging them

Oak are a Port sponsor, yeah? Guess not that unusual and they're probably everywhere in Adelaide ? But rather unusual to see Port marketing in Melbourne

Yeah I saw those as well. Strange considering no one gives a flying **** about Port Adelaide here

That old failed firey is at it again ...
Jenkins has a quiet patch after a confidence sapping injury and it's AFC have ****ed up with a long term contract.

"And if Port Adelaide needs more proof they can look just down the road to West Lakes with the events of the past week.

Last year Josh Jenkins signed a five-year deal believed to be worth over $3 million in total.

Through poor form, lack of competitiveness and injury, Jenkins was dropped back to the SANFL on the weekend."

No mention of Eddie Betts deal though

Lucky the Fire Dept didn't sign you up for 5 years eh ya big flog, Kornes!
Or they could just look at their own reserves where Lobbe will be spudding it up for the next 4 seasons.

It's a stupid argument anyway. When negotiating contracts, players care about 2 things - length and $

If you only want to offer Trengove 3 years, and Melbourne offer same dollars but for 4 years, then they have a better offer. Either you up your $ or match the length.

Saying you'll only offer 3 years max is like putting a cap of $500k on each player deal as well.

How pathetic that Geelong don't shower their debutants with Gatorade during the club song after their first win.

All because they don't want to make it too hard for the cleaners.

Do they have a large doormat at the door of the rooms to scrub their boots with too?

Do they make sure they use a towel for their sweaty backs when they sit down and lean against the wall?

I bet after a Post game crap, they use a bit of toilet duck to freshen it up a bit.

Seriously, what a boring bunch of funophobics

Yeah it's not like Bassett hasn't improved Ports defence much. As soon as Kern started listening their defence has gone from shit to one of the best in the comp.

There was a ton of criticism. It didn't reach the levels of the others, but it was hardly people going "oh well, win-win".
I thought the criticism was more that we traded out Vince who we all liked but retained senior guys who'd performed worse Douglas, van Berlo, Mackay, Wright...

Don't remember any criticism of the actual trade value being out of whack.

Maaaann that's lame

Someone in their hierarchy obviously read that All Blacks book whatever it's called

You're right - I assume if they need to go to the toilet they do it into a zip lock bag and take it home.

What's the reference with the All Black book? Danger and JJ talked about it in 5aa tonight.

By the way, wished I'd switched over to Trip M. Had Pyke on and the 3 minutes I caught of him were fantastic.

The book is called Legend (I think) and it's about their team culture. One of the things they do is get the players to clean and sweep their own changerooms and stuff like that.

Something about character.

I dunno... I always left that kind of stuff to the underlings.

I've got a little theory going about the Dogs.

Beverage is a numbers man and when I watch them I always think they seem to have more players on the field than the opposition.

Watching against Geelong, Danger was BOG probably. He got a lot of the ball, especially the clearance or the loose ball.

Why? Because the dogs let him.

Why? Allow me to explain.

Consider a ball up situation. Each team may have 1 ruck and 4 players roving in their set formations.

We know the Dogs don't ruck so they have an extra useful player.

So the 4 on 4 becomes 5 on 4.

Then when the ball gets loose in a pack and Danger dives head first to get it and is usually successful

Great. Then what?

He has to handball out. But he's got 3 useful handball receives to pick, against 5 Dogs.

Dogs have turned it into 5 on 3. Pressure mounted, ball spills, turnover, Dogs are away.

When you're on the ground with your hardball get stat, you might get the ball first, but Dogs players have their feet and apply the pressure.

Doesn't always work as we saw. But inflates the tackle stats, as Dogs play those stoppages to tackle. That's their aim.

Keep an eye out for it.

What would the All Blacks know about culture? Jeez.

Hawks did the same didn't they? Corralled the ball winner. With the HTB interpretations its probably the easiest way to win possession.
