The Demons played Howe down back for the majority of his career at that club, Buckley promised Howe that if he moved to Collingwood he would play as a forward, Howe now playing as a defender is going back to where Melb thought his best role was for the team

Doesn't matter. Rather invest in some Spud kids who might get better than Spud seniors who you know are never going to get any better.

Damn shame for them they wasted their recent picks on Polec and Dixon. Ryder I am actually starting to like as a player. That trade might pay off.

Ryder was always an above average player whilst at Essendon, he was a decent ruck who could use his athleticism to overcome his lack of height relative to most other rucks. The problem for Port was they needed a key forward to play alongside Schulz and to later replace him, and they wrongly thought they could make Ryder into that forward because whenever he went forward he was capable of kicking a few goals. When looking at the trade in that context it was a failure, leading them to pursue Dixon. So it's not really a surprise to see Ryder having good games in his ideal position for Port, he was doing that for Essendon as well.

With regards to Dixon, well he only seems to have any value when they're beating up on the weaker sides, which they've had an overabundance of in the first half of this season. As for Polec, it's tough to say what his value would have been if he hadn't had his career so injury riddled, but that was always the risk considering his history at Brisbane, which if I'm not mistaken was also affected by injuries. On the whole they traded their future in the form of first round picks and it certainly hasn't paid off.

I think you're right! He just examined a slo-mo replay of a Hibberd "handball" where he threw the ball up with one hand and punched it with the other, concluding "yep, that was a handball"! What a plonker!
