Nah, you just need to listen differently. When they start discounting us, we can't win, we're overrated, we're easy to beat, we can't win in Victoria and we're lucky to win by 84 points against the side currently fifth ... it's not disrespect.

It's fear.
I think it's more ignorance.

If I had the time or the patience, I'd love to go back and record every time one of these experts made a call on a team that "could win it" or "won't win it" or "is struggling" or "has turned the corner" etc...

David King is the best at it. He makes every prediction you could think of ... knowing he can go back to whichever one pans out.

At the moment he is big on WB winning it again, and that they are timing their run. Watch it change when they get beaten tonight ... He also said they would slide in 2016. Genius.

Here he is jumping on Melbourne when they were up.

There are so many examples of this bulldust - for instance Wallace saying Adelaide are too attacking to win the premiership.

I like the analysis of the games AFTER the fact, but this prediction thing that has become part of the media cycle in AFL pisses me off no end. They do it before the season, during the season, before games, during games ... it's pathetic.

When will someone just call the game? Not tell us what they think will happen - or that the next goal wins it etc... Wouldn't that be a pleasant change.

Sando would have been terrible. The last thing that club needs is a coach that wants to be mates with the players.

They need a hard arse that will tell the players who is boss.
Eade's coaching record is amazingly long considering how mediocre it is. It was a terrible appointment, and my point was merely that I was amazed some people seemed to think otherwise at the time - because a Sando or a Neeld (or a Ratten, Walls or Wallace, etc - pick your poison, there's no shortage of failed coaches out there) appointment would have raised massive eyebrows and for some unknown reason Rocket's didn't. Kern Hinkley has a better record.

the players need a good coach full stop, and that was never going to be bloody Eade. Wasn't he appointed the same year and before we and Essendon hired Pyke and Worsfold respectively? It was a short-sighted, lazy appointment.

The effects of the 6 day break are overstated IMO. Are there stats regarding the likelihood of winning the second game after two 6 day breaks?
perhaps they are, but when its universally considered to be a disadvantage you're still getting shafted.

imagine being at a function and everyone at your table gets served scotch fillets and they bring you a rump steak... thanks for trying to screw me, but rump steak gets a bad rap and I actually really like it?

Last year, i kept a record of every journo's top 8 from before the season, and compared it to the final result, and invited the Adelaide board to try their hand at picking the top 8.

Only Infra Ted put his hand up to try.

Did i mention he tied for first with Mark Robinson and beat every other journo out there?

So there you go, some random dude on Big Footy knows more about football than every footy journo in the country, bar one.

They said we don't play well at Ethiad, don't we? I thought we did ok but I could be wrong
Seems to be the commonly held view, even Titus used that "fact":

"Adelaide were dominant last week against Port but playing Etihad is not really their thing, and I can’t blame them. This will be tough for the Bombers, but I think they can win this."

Last 9 games at Etihad (losses in brackets):

2014 : 2 W - 1 L (Essendon)
2015 : 2 W - 1 L (Bulldogs)
2016 : 1 W - 2 L (North, Bulldogs)

So we are at 56% for the last 3 years.

This year Essendon have played the venue 7 times, for 4 wins. (57%)

Lost to Melbourne by 38 points
Beat West Coast by 61 points
Beat Power by 70 points
Lost to Brisbane by 8 points
Beat St Kilda by 61 points
Beat North by 27 points
Lost to the Bulldogs by 30 points

Last time we played them at Etihad with all their players available was 2015, and it was a close game

http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2015/20/ess-v-adel

ADELAIDE 27.9 (171)
ESSENDON 8.11 (59)

I know the Bombers are a different team this year, but seriously ?

Here are the pre-season ladder predictions for this year:

Not only are they laughable - they shouldn't be done. Like I said in the previous post ... STOP TRYING TO GUESS WHAT WILL HAPPEN !!! It doesn't add any quality to the conversation.

And yet we believe everything they say about player movement

it must be paradise, everyone wants to go there and no one wants to leave

The question has to be asked;

Is the Port culture that good no one wants to leave?

or

Is the Port culture making players afraid to leave?

Either way you have to suggest everything is far from being ok at Port. The players and coaches don't look happy at all. I think the early success of the year masked it but it's definitely out in spades now.

Can't have been that hard if Robbo came first FFS. lol Actually, I just want to state this... my mother in law is currently leading our family tipping. She's 83 years old and suffers from Alzheimers. Every week it's the same: won't pick Collingwood or Port, always picks Adelaide, and asks who North and GWS are every single time. :D

My family and I did this prediction thing at the beginning of the season, folded them up and sealed them in an envelope. It will be interesting to see who we each picked at the end of it!

He took Sydney to a GF and the Bulldogs to 3 PFs in a row. That's an ok achievement and better than many AFL coaches. His winning % is now below 50/50 after 3 terrible years with the Suns.

Plus the Suns didn't want to appoint an inexperienced coach.

"surprised there's still a debate..."

This is the same guy that wrote about how surprised he was that it took so long for Thompson to get a game this year. Then, after Thompson's 10 touch, 5 frees against effort, doubled down by writing about how hard done by Thompson was in getting dropped.

In fairness, I had Adelaide pegged around 4-6 this year. So, despite thinking I knew my club well, and being a bit of an optimist in general, I was massively wrong.

This guy does not really get the concept of Sliding Doors.

In regards to Ryder

IF Patrick Ryder stayed at Essendon

WOULD he have a better chance at winning a Premiersip in his career there with a better coach and overall list there than he has at Port.

Yeah, it's hilarious to watch. One half decent season and they're strutting about like roosters. Dimma can't wipe the smile off his face. No poise, no class.

They will never win a premiership under him.

The last time the media talked Richmond up as contenders they went on to get obliterated by St Kilda.

Watch Richmond get pumped by Geelong tomorrow.

Never has been. But that's ok, I've never been a fan of Derm.

For someone who's always been the popular jock he sure does go against the stereotype constantly saying 'I reckon....' and what comes next is his opinion that the underdog is a sneaky chance, with the hope that the favourite will slip up, for his own schadenfreud, and so he can claim the 'I told you so'.

He laughs when players are hurt - thinks it funny somehow. 'Baa ha ha ha that's gonna hurt. He'll know all about that tomorrow morning when he wakes up ha ha ha.'

I don't care how tough or good he was on the footy field, he is the quintessential bully, and I wish he'd stop telling everybody what everybody else is thinking or feeling on the field or in the coaches' box.

In fact, Derm, GAGF.
Dermie didn't have a model father to look up to. Seems the fruit didn't fall to far.

that's always bugged me, he doesn't understand what sliding doors means

yours is a sliding door moment, you do a better job than barrett

I was watching League Teams last night and they were doing the Collingwood Port Game and they showed the weight of Ports midfielders compared to Adelaide's.

I think I can see why we outworked and outrun Port.

Ollie wines 97Kg (NINETY SEVEN for a midfielder!!!!)
Brad Ebert 89Kg
Travis Boak 85Kg
Robbie Gray 87Kg

Brad Crouch 88Kg
Rory Sloane 79Kg
Richard Douglas 80Kg
Matt Crouch 78Kg

Is it me or are they all 5Kegs overweight? That must have an affect on their running capacity.
Why I referred to Wines at the first showdown last yearvas thunder thighs.
