I have a bet with a mate that Port won't be top four next year.

He kept telling me how great these signings are and how much of a better list they have now with deadwood cleared, so I offered him the bet, afterall it is only one ladder position up from last season.

Took him some time to think about it, but he eventually took my bet.

They're clinging to a hope but even the real deal supporters are not confident.

Conversation also included how they think that even if these players add to their list, doesn't every club list improve.

One friend even reckons there are 3 clubs Saints Melbourne and Bulldogs will all improve on last year by more than 2 or 3 wins and can't see Port doing that.

Especially if they have to play anyone in the top 8. Port’s record over the last couple of years against top eight teams - LOL. I was about to say I can’t believe how bad it’s been, but yeah, yeah I can.

our bowling stock should be good, just hope the selectors made the right call with the batters they brought in, Paine has alot to prove that he should be playing for Australia

Nah, England's supposed strength is their bowling and they all need help from the pitch/ball to be at their most effective. The Gabba, WACA and MCG have been absolute roads in recent years and the Kookaburra doesn't swing. Marsh and Paine could go the entire series without scoring 100 runs between them and Australia should still have no trouble (except maybe at Adelaide, and even then Australia are more familiar with the pink ball). If Stokes weren't such a gigantic idiot it might be a contest, but England's top six is not a pretty sight even with him there.

What I don’t understand about the pear is all this depth stuff

Depth normally comes about from great drafting over a long period, not so much recycling de-listed refuse

I mean how much competition did they fight off for some of those dregs?

Getting something no one else wants is not depth, it’s list clogging

As a neutral fan, I'm mainly hoping for an entertaining series so I certainly hope there's some swing. But if I had to guess I'd say Warner scores a run-a-ball century on the first morning and England never catch up from there.

I've said before, they were serving two masters and recruiting for their SANFL side. Same as if they take Lindsay Thomas

No, I'm stating that just because someone might think something is easy, as brenton davey stated, doesn't mean that everyone finds the same skill easy to master. I've never been able to bounce a football as umpires are required, not even close. I've tried the old fashioned way, drop punt style and the current way. And I'm a complete failure at it. I can't chip like good golfers and nor can I putt like them, my bunker play is very poor. But just because I can get off the tee means that everyone can, right?? That's your contention?

And umpires are semi-professional, they're not full time, they have other jobs. But hero Davey from the 70's reckons because he's a sweet bounce, everyone should be. It's stupidity.
