Pridda gave Venables a huge wrap today
He's already sliced it up by the looks

I would love to keep Gaff but at the same time trading Gaff for pick 8 and Acres isn't that bad of an idea. Acres is actually a decent player who still have plenty of development in him. We then have pick 8 and 13 to draft two more mids then we can get Kelly and Ryan a bit earlier than we normally would with our second & third rounders.

For example:

Out: Gaff

Pick 8 ( Higgins)
Pick 13 ( Brayshaw)

Second rounder ( Kelly)

Third rounder ( Ryan)

Acres

THat already strengthens our mid stocks and a pure crumber.

Exactly, this would be a pretty good result for our future imo. If we could somehow offload masten for a 3rd rounder and ontrade that for Hartung (we'd need a decent winger without gaff and at least he offers some speed) we'd be in a solid position going forward. A young midfield core of: Sheed, Duggo, Venables, Acres, Hartung + higgins + brayshaw would be pretty solid, and hopefully some of Yeo, Karps, Snadden, Parto and Mutts might be able to contribute here too. Add them to Redden, Shuey and Nic and all of a sudden our midfield doesn't look quite so desolate.

I would only trade a future first for an absolute gun.

Trading future 2nd rounds go for it, we have a terrible history with 2nd round picks in the draft.
Yeah that's what I was getting at. Definitely wouldn't be throwing it away but it's potentially worth a lot more right now to the right buyer, than it could be this time next year. All depends whether the club backs themselves to at least break even again, possibly improve, next year.

Saints would be crazy to offer 8 + Acres.

They would get him for free in a year.

7 + Acres for Gaff and 30. That seems more realistic.
I agree with your valuation for both Acres and Gaff. That would leave the Saints with a top 10 pick plus a mid second rounder.

That said, the free in a year is a big risk and I can see them pulling the trigger to actually make it happen this trade season.

So it is in the hands of Vozzo and Rawlings and we can feel thankful they have such a great track record in this area!!!!

What is plan B as I am not filled with confidence?

Masten to centre square.

The flip side of wanting to trade Gaff out this year instead of waiting for him to possibly leave via free agency next year to get more out of it is that it works both ways.

Unless a club is challenging next year and they think that Gaff will be a missing piece, why would they spend a top 10 pick and a player on him when they can get him for free next year?

He is a restricted free agent next year though, and apparently we have plenty of cap space so we could likely match most offers made for him and force a trade like the crows did for dangerfield. In that instance someone like the saints would have to trade their only 2018 first rounder, whereas they have two to play with this year in what is considered a weaker draft (granted this seems to be the case every year).

Would prob have to pay more salary too next year if we can match. If they get him this year they could lock him in at a decent price for the rest of his career.

They can't get him for free in a year. He is restricted.

We need a statement for the club saying gaff is a contracted required player . That will drive up his value
