But I think there is a clear agreement that we don't try to compete for potential recruits with Freo once they have got a preferred destination. This works in the long-term for both clubs as we avoid bidding wars and thus get better trade deals.

I wasn't on big footy in 2013. Both Martin and conca for memory were out of contract. Martin met with a bunch of clubs at the time including west coast. A number of clubs at the time stated that they were not prepared to take Martin on for the money he was demanding. He ended up resigning with Richmond. So yes we definitely could have got him if we paid overs at the time. Not sure we'd still have him on our list though

Conca and Martin were both out of contract and there was talk of us offering pick 6 for Conca (holy crap did we dodge a bullet there). Look I could be wrong but the only place I saw Martin linked to West Coast was a thread on the Scandals and Rumours board suggesting Martin had been seen in Leederville having dinner with Scott Burns and someone else (Vozzo probably? can't fully remember). If you weren't on BigFooty then fair enough, but I'm confident that's where the rumour started. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure that wasn't reported through mainstream media. The only possible destination for him that was really being talked about by journos was GWS.

But as I said even allowing for the possibility that that's what happened, we know nothing of the details of the negotiations. Did anyone from West Coast come out and state we were bowing out of the Martin race because a) his personality or b) his asking price? I'm sure they didn't, so with respect, asserting that we had the chance to recruit him which we rejected because of his bad boy characteristics is a bit of a wild guess.

I just ran the Facebook poster idea past my wife about Priddis coming out of retirement and building a midfield around him . This was a Litmus test to just see if my wife really does know anything because she agrees with me about everything which makes me think she is semi AFL smart . Nah. Phill was pumping up WC getting Branden a few months ago before a game.

I think with LeCras and Hill on the way out shortly and with Cripps struggling we could easily find a spot for another medium forward. It's not an area we have particularly quality depth in. If you just don't rate Fasolo then fair enough he seems to divide a few people anyway.

As for Matera, I actually still expect him to be cheap as chips although I do still want us to take five or so picks this year, so would rather hang onto the late pick to be honest.

As you say, Liam Ryan over both.

Waterman is the only medium forward there.

Darling is the size of a medium but plays like a KPF.
Venables is a midfielder.
Rioli is a small forward.
Allen is a KPF.

Let's not shoehorn players in, let's actually get talent that suit a role. For too long we'd injected blokes into our forward line who are not natural at the position.

Ryan has lots of potential. You don't kick 70+ goals in a WAFL season without some substance. If he gets his fitness levels up he could be the small forward we haven't had all these years

Think this is ridiculous if true. We have a second rounder, they don't, if we want him, go trade for him.

The only person I have heard say Wilson's preferred destination is Freo is Freo's list manager.

The word preference implies more than 1 option. Also implies You want more than 1 iron in the fire. When I joined the army I had 3 Core preferences in order. I got my 2nd . So glad I had preferences or they could have put me anywhere.
I do understand and like your WA club co operation. It helps someone like Wilson be loyal to the Giants so They dont get lowballed.
