The amount of panic when I got the notification of West Coast trading there first round pick was unsettling.

Then I recognised it was 2018 draft.

Rawlings has openly said they rate this draft more than 2018 so two picks in the 20’s and 37 is good.

Think one of those picks will see us draft Tim Kelly, more likely to be currently pick 26, 21 if there is any grave danger of him falling higher 20’s.

37 maybe to late.

We literally did a deal involving swapping future picks yesterday. And we've reportedly spent the last two days discussing a possible pick swap with the Bulldogs.

Bah humbug. Thats nothing compared to what the boys pulled off this morning.

In effect close to four second round picks for a first and a third.

Do we know which clubs are interested in Kelly? I assume Carlton are one with their Picks 3, 10, 16 & 40. Maybe gone with Pick 16?

They'll use 16 for Kennedy.

Brisbane have 4 picks in the top 20 and are apparently keen on Kelly. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them pull the trigger at 20 as their first 3 picks will be on youth, and they’ve got a young list.

I’ve watched Ryan for Subi a bit. Most recently in the WAFL GF and I like his offensive qualities but defensively and against better opposition he still can get found out.

Can’t predict how consistent he will be at next level up.

I won’t be calling for heads chopped if we draft him but there’s an element of risk attached that wouldn’t be as clear in someone like Schloithe or Jye Bolton even

If this IS a top draft this could be the start of a dynasty. A clutch of similar age players coming through at the same time. I wont contemplate the alternative, if 2018 is what everyone says it is.

Although I am still a bit apprehensive about trading out a 2018 1st, at least we got some good draft picks out of it. It's certainly a lot better than the mooted scenario of us being the third party draft pick swapper in the Jake Stringer trade.

There's also the possibility we're settled on the fact that we lose Gaff to FA next year and we're banking on a first there. Maybe, maybe not - but it's not a bad hedge if so.

Trading our 2018 first for Suns 2018 second is not a big trade down , so I can live with that.
Effectively trading down in a deeper draft does make some sense.

If they take Kelly at 20 then it leaves a better player available for us at 21.

There’s a big hole in between there 3rd and 4th picks which is where he could well land.

If there keen to get him you’d have to think 16 is the go.

May need to use 16 to gain Matt Kennedy from GWS as well. Think picks 15 to 20 is around the market value for Kennedy.
