There have been some great wingman over the years and Kelly fits the mould. Pace and a big tank, can win his own ball gets back and defends great foot skills.

We need a Kelly type very badly, there must be his type in this years draft, it's pretty hard to miss players like that.

Wing was traditionally a spot where young players got a start, same as forward flank and pocket.

One man's trash is another man's treasure they say. Well I don't care what other people say I still think Tom lamb as a free hit is worth a look. Big tank, pace, height and kicks goals.

I don't want to be captain buzzkill but we could easily miss out on all of Fyfe, Martin, Kelly, Whitfield, lever etc.

I hope we have a plan b and c in place to hit the draft and try our luck with under-utilised players.

Brown, Stevens and Steele are making a big difference right now. If we traded for three players who made as much difference as they have and still hit the draft I would be wrapped.

Both our 1st round picks for Murphy .
Interested ? :D
( jake can car pool with Murph every morning )

Please leave that gutless sook out of this thread.

All good today.

Paddy commits to the Saints
Jack Steele loving life at the Saints (via tweet)
Josh Kelly seriously considering our offer.

We have two first rounders, one getting better by the day as the Hawks big names go down (unfortunately)

We have two excellent recruits in Brown and big bad trash talkin Jake the Snake (**** em Jake)

Seb Ross is about to go to the next level and Jack Billings is about to explode.

And we have the best and most fearless leader of men in captain Geary.

The rest of the league and their vendetta can get ****ed.

Say we get 2 pickups during the offseason that come straight in to our best 22. Both midfield types who can also go forward.... Who comes out??
It's a question I've been wondering for a while seeing we have no obvious choices. but at the moment for mine it would be players like Dunstan and Weller, maybe even joey who could see there hold in the 22 start to slip

Not quite.

In the scenario presented (assuming 5 x 1M vs 9 x 1M) , then a 5 year deal would cost 1M per year, whilst a front loaded 9 year deal may cost 1.6M per year over that same period. This means that there is 600K less in the cap to front load other contracts, therefore we lose the opportunity to pay other players in advance and free up salary later. Or even miss out on recruiting another quality player, instead.

A 9M burden over 9 years is still the same burden no matter how you structure payment timing.
A 5M burden over 5 years is objectively smaller.
The only time that front/backending contracts has an effect is to do with payment timing, thus allowing you to have a "12 million dollar list" for only 10 million, at the expense of later on having an "8 million dollar list" for 10 million at a later time.

I was talking to those worried about injuries or lack of form after a certain period of time. If it was me I would present something that will hopefully get Kelly and if that is more money early or a long contract I would do it. If we are scared on injuries or lack of form we may never take a risk. Sometimes a risk can pay dividends. In this case at the moment there is no rick at all unlike Freeman who may cost us a million and never play a game but he also could end up a bargain. We need to get a star this season or we have just wasted a huge opportunity given our SC and the promise we have shown as a club. I don't want to miss out because something may happen. By the way the odds of something major happening would be very small.

No idea why Kelly would take the same pay for 4 years less. Maybe he thinks he wont get an injury either. If that's the case just give him what he wants if it means we get him.

Few questions:

Where did Paddy commit to St Kilda?

What has confirmed that Kelly is seriously considering our offer? ITK stuff?

I feel like I'm missing a page out of this thread or something
Paddy's contracted to the end of 2018. Unless he wants to break contract, he's committed to us for this year & next

Paddy was great as an under aged player in the vic country side absolutely loved him. He was good the next year too.

I think he will become a really good if not better player for us but Geelong can have him tomorrow if he wants to leave.

All they have to do is the pay new industry standard two first round picks with at least one being an early first.

Down in McGregor's Woods under a big old oak tree, it was beautiful ❤️ :rainbow:

What are people's thoughts on Rockliff now that his character isn't being questioned all the time, certainly playing good footy for Brisbane, still an option if we miss Fyfe/Martin?

Caroline Wilson re: Martin contract: "I know that Richmond think North Melbourne is right in there. St Kilda will be a big player as well"

Also Caro (or someone else?), their inside mail is J. Kelly favoured to take a 2 year deal with GWS, and then reassess after that. Similar to Dangerfield a few years ago

As much as I'd hope he took it for the chance to play at our club, I don't think $240k a year will get it done :drunk:
Just realised my mistake haha. Was meant to be $1.5M each year for a 5 year deal. $240K a year small price to pay if you want to play in a premiership list in Victoria.

Probably wants a flag first then he's off. Might have to wait a couple of years for him.

I wonder when we interview players from now on, if we give them a sledge test to see how they cope under pressure?

Last thing we need is to fork out $1m per year for a player with Murphy's Syndrome.
Reckon if we want them and they dont come, the team sledges them until they cry like Murphy
