Going to be an interesting year now re; Max King's injury. If it's an ACL - a year out of testing in his draft year could see him slide (Top 5 to maybe Top 12).

We're obviously going to have a pick somewhere between 6-12. Lukosius will almost definitely be gone by then, so I think we should take Max King if available or O'Reilly. We went (rightly) with the mids with 2&5 last season now we need to invest in some tall timber.

I'm optimistic that Dixon will come on, but we'll probably lose Apeness at the end of the season, and with Brennan Cox playing more in defence this season we need more key forwards on the list.

I've actually been more impressed / interested in Ben. Seems like he's played as good of games forward as Max has - and he's also a really solid defender (I think he's cleanly beaten his brother on at least one occasion). Regardless, I don't see us passing on Hill with our 1st pick if he's available.

You're probably right, it just annoys me that we're always complaining on this board about not having a decent tall forward yet we're not willing to part with a high pick to get one. We've taken since 2001 (Polak) just one key forward with a first rounder (Apeness, 2013). I think the time is right.

If we get Pick 5 - 10 this year, no doubt 1 of B.King / M.King / Lukosious (Doubt this one) should be available, given Rankine / Smith are also Top 5 contenders and we don't know who might eventually join them in contention. Still very early days in a stacked draft.

It's just typical, annoying Fremantle luck that there happens to be a Hill in this years draft - who is currently playing really good football and because of that we might miss out on an elite KPP prospect.

I don't mind if we take on this year but the problem is a tall drafted this year (especially a King as they are rakes) are going to be no good to us until 2022 (or later) you'd think. Fyfe and Sonny will be 31 and Shill 32 that year. I think we will take a player we expect can make an impact earlier.

Looking at the bottom teams currently below us on the ladder, which ones are potentially likely to draft a KPF?

Carlton have Curnow & McKay
Lions, Hipwood & McStay???
Doggies, Boyd & Schache
Saints, McCartin & Bruce
Suns, Lynch (provided he stays), Day & Wright

All these teams could do with more quality in their midfield.

That said if there'sa quality gun tall then you'd think they'd be snapped up. Will also be interested to see if some of those talked about slip a bit further down the 1st round with the recent commentary on performance of talls selected early from past drafts

I personally think we are going to have to make the decision because there are 3 of them available this year and we are likely to pick in the top 10. Several clubs below us are likely to pick midfielders as you say. That said, I am still not sure we pick a KPF unless we just flat out think they are the best available.

That's a shame. Wonder how far he slides. Could be a good opportunity for him to work on his frame.

He definitely won't slide far, I think Top 3 range to Top 8 range. One thing that is interesting now is that you can lock in his brother to go before him.

There is plenty of time for the surgery, recovery and into strength building before the draft to show both that he is professional in his approach to rehab and that the surgery was successful.

If he is lucky he might bulk up too and be more physically ready than his brother, running aside.

Pretty much, tho i honestly believe carlton will pick lukosious.

Yes Their midfield is wafer thin but besides curnow (who can possibly play midfield aswell), they dont have much coming through as key forwards (the jury is still out on mckay). Plus jack is very mobile,so even if mckay comes on you could easily play all three.
I just cant see them overlooking him and really nor should they. Mids are always in more plentiful supply and considering where their rebuildds at ,their 3 years off doing anything anyway.

Regardless it Will be disgusting seeing them stockpile more young talent. I despise everything about that club.

Can see one of the Kings going to Carlton. Jones isn’t backing up his Key back role this season as is around 28 mark if I believe correctly? They would want a big Victorian kid who could take that role in 2 years

That Mckay kid went ok against the weagles - 4 goals was a nice effort

Where do people see Hill's best position? Height 174cm same as Balla, weight apparently 66kg. Both Freo's Hills are
taller, had a few more kilo's in their draft year.
Carter is already taller, heavier build, extremely fast and is a mid/defender.
If Hill is a small forward would Rozee offer more in the long term?

There is an argument that they and everyone should just take best available with a first round pick. But if they were for some reason picking for needs, it would seem strange to go tall when:
  • Weitering, Marchebank, Macraedie, Plowman not enough tall backmen (Weitering,Plowman and Marchebank all top 10 picks); and
  • In terms of tall forwards they have Silvagni, McKay, DeKoning, Curnow and Kerr (with Curnow and McKay top 15 picks).

Carlton would be insane not to take Rankinr

Would love hill for sure but this is my concern.
In terms of structural and list variety im not so sure its the best move for the club, especially considering IMO hes a good chance to request a trade to freo as some stage down tne track.

I actually think a taller fwd/mid (someone who can play genuinely both positions and has geniune attacking nous would be ideal(HB is in fact that perfect prospect but if we're being honest is odds against to make it atm sadly). Coupled with the fact that if we manage to snare shai bolten this year(another good chance IMO) would provide us with an ideal ballas replacement at alot less cost(than using a top 10 pick on hill)

Dont know much about rozee but he is a mid range prosect highly rated so maybe at this point in time he could perhaps be the guy

Well....I think there are a number of good midfielders that all the top including Rankine. I believe Walsh has not fallen below 30 possessions a game in any form of the game for months (including against North Reserves) so he is up there as well. And I think Bailey Smith along with skills brings a good ethic and leadership skills and could end up there. Curtis Taylor is a damaging midfielder and then there is Rozee who is also super dangerous with the ball by foot or hand; if they can get more of the ball then they move up into that top bracket as well (they also fit Carlton's needs well as well).

I think he pulled a Wingard and told all the clubs he will walk out on them if he's not drafted to SA
Yeah that is getting around but can't see any of Port, Crows or Dees finishing in the bottom 8 so I don't think he gets to pick 9+. Wingard only had to convince GWS not to draft him in his year.

Also iHill is a midfielder and I likened him to a faster, right footed Walters when I saw him at the champs last year. I know he is small but how many here would turn down Jack Martin if available? Guy is gun and it wouldn't feel right watching a Hill run around for someone else (well a good one anyway).

I agree that I think a quality taller more powerful mid who can play forward would be useful with our first pick.

I like Rozee and I think he is the kind of player that could potentially fall through to us, although alternatively he could stay in the Top 7 which is where I have him at the moment. The only thing is he is not a massive power-midfielder (although his overhead marking is good).

I also like Tarryn Thomas, even though he is a North Academy player. The video below doesn't do him justice in terms of his skills, but he gets to a lot of contests and is a tackling machine. At 190cm he is also massive for a midfielder and also has serious speed. There are (*Don't do it Ysaye!*) "Judd like" aspects to his play. We really should bid on him if we get the chance IMO, just to make North pay a somewhat fair price.

There are a few other names, but these are the ones for the moment...

Totally agree. A top 3 talent won’t fall that far, no happen what he says.
Will be interesting if their is live trading.
Rankine falls to 5 and then the Crow offer their two first round picks for him.
