Looks like we're also largely responsible for the AFL tracking to exceed 1,000,000 members too! ;)

AFL on verge of cracking one million members

The AFL competition is poised to create history by achieving a record combined membership this year of more than one million people.

With 980,000 AFL and club memberships locked in, including almost 180,000 new members, the league will establish a new benchmark some time next month. The league is understood to have based expectations that it will attract its 1,000,000th member on the usual annual sales rush in July.

The AFL’s 18th consecutive membership record has surpassed expectations after a 3 per cent increase last year enabled it to break 900,000 for the first time, when 907,562 people signed up for membership. Ten of the 18 clubs broke their membership records and eight clubs had memberships of more than 50,000.

The clubs that last season improved on their 2016 membership figure were Adelaide, Essendon, Geelong, Greater Western Sydney, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney and the Western Bulldogs, with West Coast set to have record numbers this season. The inaugural AFL Women’s League membership tally of 7191 was included in last year’s overall figures.

Last year, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the popularity of the game had never been greater and boasted that “one in every 27 Australians is now a member of an AFL club”. As of next month, one in every 25 Australians will officially be AFL or club members.

This year’s 11 per cent increase of overall memberships has partly been through the resurgence of Richmond as a football powerhouse. The 2017 premiers could become the first sporting club in the southern hemisphere to have a membership of more than 100,000.

Unexpected demand had Tigers membership tracking towards 96,000 yesterday, which is already a remarkable increase on last year’s record of 72,669. The club, which had targeted 90,000 this season, believes it will go close to achieving six figures before next month’s cut-off.

Richmond, who have grown rank-and-file numbers for the past eight consecutive years, have signed up more than 25,000 new members since last year’s grand final. Before this year, no club had ever broken the 80,000-membership barrier. Collingwood, who had 75,879 members last year, went close in 2014 with 79,347.
First club in southern hemisphere to do this. Delicious

How many actual full members though other than the 3 gamer , I rekon about 60-70 k .

According to someone I know who is connected with the club, a high number of our members are three gamers. They wouldn't clarify what high was though

However, low level Coteries are full with 3121 maxed out and all reserved seat memberships (minimum 11 game types) are sold which is very very impressive. And that is a fact and not just an estimate.

Not quite

Ponsford end still selling, and five gamers with reserved seats are up for sale

Our premium sales have improved a lot, but we are coming from a ways back. Breaking the ga culture our club has, and the massive gss preference has been a big challenge for some time. The three gamers have definitely started smacking the former around. The latter is taking time, but people losing patience on gss waitlists (and the MRC sellout) is helping

Lol. Some creative stuff down there. New categories popping up that weren't there earlier in the year. I guess well done by the club!

They have definitely changed how they are marketing these. The short term reserved sale packages for Dreamtime and final five is a way to hook people without the full 11 cost. Not sure tbh if these are fresh seats or unsold ones repackaged.

We have an artificial cap on inner sanctum, as there is a lot of scope to increase that once demand is there

Nice Blog there rfctiger74...went down GF memory lane again...:thumbsu:

Can imagine sales of “premium memberships” going up next season if we are moderately successful this year. Especially if we make it to the big dance.

Especially if there is scope for more members and caps are not legit.

Lot of three gamers and casual people who get fomo will want more next year. As long as the club continues to provide a decent package. Think the new reward and recognition program is a good step.

here is a fun question

100k members all of who get 'priority access to weeks 1-3 of finals' take out 25k for the mcc leaves you with 75k at the mcg divided between the teams

100k doesn't fit into 37.5k

Probably be closer to 50k trying to fit into that number by the time you take out people who aren't committed, live interstate, aren't actually attending members and just extra memberships people buy or gift ;)

Members benefits page stresses 'Match Access Members Only' get finals tickets access.

Is our 98K tally all match access members?

Also we would have several thousand members who won't use their Richmond member access as they sit in the MCC reserve.
