Cripps is better but Oliver not far behind, he's improving faster than Cripps is. May even overtake him by the end of the year.
What do you mean by improving faster? Personally I thought Oliver had the better 2017 than Cripps. 2018 Cripps has improved a fair bit from last year and having his best season.

Yet, here we are, in an AA thread. You mentioned Phillips, Scharenberg, De Goey and Crisp. They are going well, but are no chance.

Pendlebury and Treloar an outside chance.

Howe, maybe. Grundy, yes. Sidebottom, probably.

What now big fella? Think you know more about playing footy than Pendles?! LOL

Nah but seriously, i think the likes of Scharenberg and Phillips are doing better than “Going Well” when they are top 5-10 players in there respected positions(Wing&CHB). Crisp also averages 24 disposals from half back, only a few half backs find it more(Lloyd, Simpson, Laird and Sicily has the same numbers) im not betting any money he will make the squad, because i doubt it, but when you compare the body of work from Crisp, Howe, and Scharenberg they have been arguably as good as each other, yet Howe will have a much larger chance of making the squad/side.

Again just for clarification again, no i dont think we will have 7 members in the squad, but why arent you allowed to argue the likes of Phillips similar to Pendles just did?

Who says they're impossible to split? Make the case one way or the other instead of using something that is irrelevant as the tiebreaker.

WC have won more games so Naitanui must be having more impact.

What other possible explanation is there for WC winning more games?
They're a better team? Partly because they have NicNat?

You seem to think that just because Richmond are second on the ladder, there is some quota of players who absolutely must be AA. That's not how it works.

No SJ, I'm very aware that being part of successful team is not an automatic ticket for individual acknowledgement, any more than being part of a poor side excludes a player from individual recognition. Nat Fyfe is a testimony to the latter - best player in the comp right now, while the rest of his team can hardly get out of their own way.

I dunno about Cotchin, but there's certainly a clear mentality that judges Alex Rance on a different scale to most other defenders. Maybe it's because he's been AA so many times in the past and they're sick of it, or maybe it's attributed to footy pundits wanting to get onboard someone unique to expound their footy viewing chops, or maybe they just want to prop up their own players who they feel are not getting adequate recognition, and the best mechanism for that is to detract from the one who has been the principal. Either way, it's clear Rance has to be multiple times better than many other players who's names are being bandied around - hell, I've read rolling backline nominations for Sicily and Rampe FFS - in order to make the squad.

I've seen Rance play live 7 times so far this season and he's been the dominant defender on the footy ground in at least 5 of them. And I'm never more content and confident that something positive will unfold as a Tiger supporter as I am when the ball is in his hands - Rance is just so organised, calm, creative and 360 degree aware. And he patrols the entire defensive half of the G like a Doberman defending his own backyard.

I'd actually say Caddy has the best case, as a mid-sized hybrid forward. He might not be Richmond's best player but that's not the criteria.

Yep, Caddy's been good, but Riewoldt's been better, at least up until last weekend. Now they've both missed one game each it's evened up.

But I like how you helpfully converted your 8-2 record into an 80% win-loss ratio. I didn't understand it until you told me the percentage.

I apologise if that seemed patronising - that wasn't my intention. I was just trying emphasise the correlation between the Cotchin/Rance dominance figure and the 8-2 win/loss ratio.

Sinclair will surely be putting his name in the discussion this year, as long as his form stands up. Wont get a spot and probably rightly so but deserves to be in the discussion for the squad. That would be a a massive achievment for a player of his level

He's still a way off the top echelon but comfortably in the top 8 ruckmen at the moment.

Isaac Heeney is having a tremendous year and would have to be in the squad atm. Not sure he's in the 22 but he'd be close imo.

Sinclair is having a great year by what Swans fans thought he might produce but he's beneath the top echelon of rucks so I wouldn't have him in the squad.

Parker, Lloyd and Kennedy all having good years but probably all just outside the squad too. Franklin missed too many games so far to make it probably. Nick Smith is deserving of a squad spot but probably not being talked about enough to get it.

Or maybe it's because he's an overrated loose man chip scab

Heeney doesn’t average enough disposals to get a midfield AA spot and doesn’t kick enough goals to get a forward AA spot.

Phillips is a good player but the problem with being top 5-10 of the wing spot is they likely only get 3 wingers MAX in the squad most years and guys like

Gaff, Sidebottom, Duncan, Polec, Smith, Ross, Seedsman are ahead of him.

Not unreasonable, but his value as a player this year has been as a player who goes forward and then drifts into the middle and does a hell of a lot without winning the most touches on the ground. His marking for his size is stellar and he tackles as hard as anyone.

Again, I doubt he'd be in the 22 atm but he's having a brilliant year. He'd be comfortably first in the Skilton Medal atm.

Yeah i agree. Sidebottom has played much more inside minutes this season but they will probably put him there or the bench if he did make it. All those players however playing great.

Hogan with 19 touches, 10 marks & 5 goals
Gawn 19 touches & 57 hitouts
Oliver with 38 touches, 19 contested & 6 clearances

All 3 didnt do their AA chances any harm

Post needs more Jetta.

He's my favourite player but wasn't in great form earlier in the year IMO.
Been in great form for about 70-80 games, I'll forgive him not shining for a couple of games when the defense was a shambles at the start of the year. :)

Under 6 foot tall and frequently embarrasses key forwards.

No doubt, but don't think he's above Stewart, Hurn etc. this year specifically.

According to the majority of Eagle supporters on here McGovern hasn't been that good this year, Hurley is out of form for Essendon, Harry Taylor has missed too many games. So who is this years All-Australian center half back? Whether people like him or not, it has to be James Sicily.
