Did they announce crowd on telecast?
From looks of it and other games i have been to so far this season, was around 5500-6000.
It actually looked a bit smaller than that from what I could see.. The top deck of the stand on the eastern side didn’t look as crowds red at the northern end.. Anyway, interesting to see what it was.

Hey Wookie with the problem with ratings at Oztam how come there are no Foxel figures at least?.
I was under the impression that Foxtel did their own ratings as they can check who is watching online so why don't Foxtel put up their ratings or do they have a deal with Oxtam?

Oztam do the ratings for both FTA and Foxtel.
Foxtel would keep their own, but dont release them.

Anyone seen crowd figures for this weekend? Again to my knowledge every qld game sold out this weekend. The atmosphere at Carlton v north was incredible from the carlton continent.

The crowd at both Metricon games indicates if they’re sold out they’re selling less tickets than last weeks games. Wouldn’t be more than 3,500 there at Metricon tonight (~5,000 at last Friday nights match there).

I suspect they’re selling more tickets to the games featuring Essendon (maybe Carlton) than the other matches, based on the bays open to fans.

I suspect the afl/dees didnt want this to turn into a Brisbane home game could be a reason.

Be interesting to see how the next few weeks go with a truckload of games here. Hopefully gradually let more and more in
Yeh maybe. they have been allowed to do 7000 but seem to be restricting it. Maybe a cost thing?!!
Im going to pretty much every metricon game.

In your top photo, they’ve only sold tickets in those 8-10 bays behind the goals (Top section of the southern end) to 3 games so far from my recollection: Ess V North, Ess V Bulldogs and Tigers V North. They haven’t opened the bottom bays at the southern end either.

Next Friday night would likely draw the highest crowd there yet based on demand you’d suggest (Essendon home to Brisbane).
Perhaps. Brisbane fans notoriously dont travel down here en masse in a normal season so maybe.
suns v Essendon may get largest but is a mid week game

Something to warm an AFL/Australian Football fans heart in these dark times esp in Victoria.

NRL audience plummets by more than 1 million since restart

By Adrian Proszenko and Sam Phillips
July 26, 2020 — 10.51am

The NRL has lost more than a million viewers – or a quarter of its television audience – since the competition restarted, despite the positive feedback on its rule changes, to hand the AFL a dominant victory in the ratings battle.
OzTAM ratings obtained by The Sun-Herald indicate a huge drop in league audiences on Nine (the owners of this masthead) and Fox Sports during the past two months. When the season resumed in round three, 4,524,780 people tuned in to watch the eight games. In round 10, that number plummeted to 3,376,000, representing a fall of 1.15 million viewers, or a decrease of 25 per cent.

By way of comparison, the AFL had 5,801,000 tune in for their season restart and have been able to keep the majority of eyeballs on their product.

They dropped 697,000 viewers to 5,104,000 last weekend.
The figures come as some surprise given the NRL has been lauded for its law changes, with most pundits crediting the six-again rule for increasing fatigue and adding to the spectacle. The downside, however, has been an increase in one-sided matches as the discrepancy between the strong and weak teams is exposed.

At the same time, the AFL’s decision to revert to 16-minute quarters has led to tighter tussles. The quality of the spectacle, however, has been widely questioned. Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson is one of several luminaries lamenting the state of the game, describing it as “dreadful” as contests degenerate due to regular stoppages and predictable ball movement.
A consequence has been a series of tighter contests, with a greater number of viewers tuning in until the end of games as they go down to the wire.

The biggest audience fall since the restart has been on Nine, mirroring a general decline in free-to-air figures. The NRL’s free-to-air segment share in Sydney and Brisbane is actually up 1 per cent year on year, despite more people consuming content on other platforms. Another reason for the big drop-off could be the absence of the Easter, Anzac and Magic rounds, which normally result in a spike in viewers.

Numbers will drop now due to less free to air matches.

Still the same 4 matches on Ch7 next round. Only difference is that there’s a game on Wed night instead of Sunday afternoon, which probably means a substantial increase.

So it will just be the bye rounds after that as normally happens in the middle of the season and should still be same FTA / Fox split as usual.

Weekly viewing figures will increase even if the per game number drops a little.
