For whatever reason, they sold less tickets for the Blues /Bulldogs game as opposed to the Bombers / Roos game. There were about 13-14 bays behind the goals not opened for the game last night that were being used on Saturday night. I don’t know if that was due to less demand or simply a decision to sell a lot less tickets?
i reckon the timeslot saw lower sales. when i bought my ticket (wed i think it was) i was given and took the option to pay an extra $10 to park across from the stadium. on friday i got a message saying they were refunding the $10 and we could park for free next door under the basketball stadium - so they knew sales were lower by that stage and that under cover carpark could cover the expected crowd of about 2500.
whereas the sat night game where i took the $10 option, the across road carpark was used by most attendees (that one is open air and can handle the larger crowd)

The allocation sold out very fast. So demand was not the issue. Carlton has a massive supporter base up here.

Australian Football League

Round 6 of the AFL rated more than 4.7 million viewers across the Seven network and Foxleague, as the AFL reached 28.9 million viewers for the season, down -2.09%, but excluding ANZAC Day and ANZAC Day eve clashes which are typically big drawers on the television and held in the corresponding round 6 last year.

The highest rating AFL game of the round was Thursdays nights cats/Lions clash which rated 998,000 viewers, including 772,000 on the Seven Network (including 53,000 in Brisbane, more than double the previous Thursday night clash), while it was also the rounds top rating Foxfooty clash with 226,000 viewers reported.

For the AFL, the match average across both free and subscription television is down 0.25% on the same period in 2019 to an average 545,000 per game. Free to air television is up 11.3% to an average of 422,000, with metro viewing up 13.8%, including increases in Sydney (7.6%), Melbourne (11.2%) and Brisbane (26.7%). The Lions average viewership is up 38% on its own.

The Seven broadcast average is also up 7.16% to an average of 576,000 nationally. (this is based on the single national broadcast figure reported by Seven for a particular broadcast slot regardless of the number of matches shown nationally).

The AFLs Foxtel average is down 0.8% on 2019 to 186,000, with a game in hand. Foxtel accounts for just over a third (34%) of the AFLs ratings.

CH 7 would be very happy with those figures.
Foxtel is interesting because we don't know the kayo figures which would include many ex Fox subscribers.

A couple of weeks back there was an article claiming viewership was up 21% across all fox sports platforms. Foxtel cable numbers holding firm probably reflects an overall rise in subscription viewership

I really hope they allow the 6000 to friday night footy this week at Metricon.
I am hoping i can get a ticket but no sign at this stage
For the Carlton game at the Gabba members could get tickets from today, and the general public can get them from Thursday, but annoyingly it has not been publicised very well. If they promoted this more there could be some pretty decent crowds and atmospheres at these games, much better than the overlaid fake noise.

Promotion is definitely an issue, but every game so far has sold out due to the low amount of fans allowed in.
