What else are all those picks in the 60s for then? Surely it depends on the odds of the players we like dropping to 53.

Yes, Marcus Ashcroft's son Will.

Have seen his name a bit on our boards. A real top 5 prospect Johnny? I'm going to hold you to this. Don't want another Lachie Harris scenario playing out here.

Bloody Dermie, getting my hopes up years ago.

Well, father/son but at least academy doesn't cease when he moved to Melbourne.

Hard to know anything two years out, but Ashcroft did make the U15 AA team, and draft watcher eDPS did mention him in his list of the best prospects in the nation.

From this thread a month ago:
Made the AA U15 school boys side as a 14 and 15 year old. Captained Vic in the competition as a 15 year old.

Not sure where he sits amongst the over all pool. If I had to guess, at this stage he’s considered a first round talent.
Ashcroft is very good, plays in the Trent Cotchin mould.

Yes, Marcus Ashcroft 's son Will.
FatherSon - similar but not academy.

Surely in hindsight Hipwood was a top 5 talent. Perhaps top 3. The only one you'd definitely have ahead of Eric would be Oliver. Perhaps Weitering or Curnow?

I'd have Eric above all based off output/role.

I think that Weitering is a pretty good prospect long term.
And Richmond’s bid for Eric at pick 14 doesn’t look too bad in hindsight.

We won’t have pick 53.

Pick 25 we select whoever the club rates.

Then a bid comes for Coleman before pick 40, which probably wipes out pick 53, with possibly some residual points left over. I expect 53 to move up to around 46-48 range with all the WB, Sydney and Port picks between 25 and 53.

Pick 58 potentially moves up 10 spots before we get to use it.

The one team that really needs to hunt for points at the moment is Collingwood.

Coming out of trade week it looked like we were primed to take 2 academy players given the late picks we had accumulated. We have subsequently removed 3 half back flankers from the team. Carter Michael getting a fair bit of talk in various media circles.

1+1+1 = 3

I expect him to end up being taken by the Lions.

I definitely do not see him as a Daniel Rich type though. Athletic, good defensively with pretty good skills but nowhere near the elite level that Rich is at.
Sheehan states "traits like Daniel Rich." Maybe once he is on our list for ten years he may reach the Daniel Rich level.

Both have the potential to be Great 👍

Exactly. Hard to write KPP on anything but potential when they're that young. So many examples of young KPP having good seasons followed by terrible ones. Reckon both will have good careers regardless of who ends up better than the other. Hipwood and Daniher is a mouth watering one-two punch.

Hipwood and Daniher at one end, Harris and Dizz at the other. There is the knock out blow.

At 25 I really want us to take a ruck. Based on what we saw last year I would rate this as the strongest ruck class in quite a few years and ruck is certainly an area of need for us.

Picking at 25 I would be surprised if we didn't get the chance to take at least one of Neale or Walsh. Both would be the best ruck prospect in most years. I know Briztoon also has high hopes for Heath who I have not seen but will take his word for.

For me I really have trouble deciding which of Neale or Walsh I prefer. In the end it might be Neale merely because he played more this year and might be a lesser go home risk. Walsh is the better tap at rucks I think having a very nice jump. Neale though is probably the strongest tapper I have seen at junior level. What I mean there is that when the two rucks both get a hand to the ball in the tap Neale invariably pushes through the other ruck and gets the ball to the advantage of his team. Neale is very clean below the knees and has can really cover the ground when he decides to sprint. You don't expect rucks to run down midfield opponents but Neale will and he has a good hunting mindset at times.

Both are aggressive and don't mind mixing it up although neither is particularly well built at the moment. That is typical of junior rucks though. Walsh is slightly taller and might be the slightly smarter footballer. Skills wise they are also both good for rucks particularly in close where the option taking of both is excellent. Neale might be slightly better as I think he has quicker hands.

If we ended up with either I would be very happy.

I can understand that if you are picking marginal talent but I don't think that is the case this year. Fages also has liked to play two rucks so far and if a young ruck shows some promise then they should get games.

We were also the youngest finals team this year, have a couple of firsts next year and a very top end father son the following year. Our window seems open for an extended period as things currently stand and planning for when the younger group take over the reins seems like a good thing to do. We have got lucky with Oscar developing as he has but there are not that many that do succeed from the lower leagues and teams are holding onto their younger ruck prospect more tightly than previously. The ones that moved in the last couple of years have not been guys I would be that keen to rely on if I was a contender.

Preuss moved this year but I am a long way from sold on him being anything more than a low end starter.

Neale's athletic profile is definitely promising. Former national 400m and 800m runner, fourth best 2km time at the WA state combine (6.35 min) and top 5 at the WA combine for the vertical jumps with a sore ankle. Only chose fully committed to footy over athletics start of last year too.

So I've held off on this for a while - not that it is huge goss but whatever.

My son goes to the same school Shannon Neale goes to (my son is 4 years younger) and they are in the same home room. Until Shannon left recently (his schooling is done now) they chatted every few days (my boy is chatty and Lions mad).

They discussed the prospects of him being drafted through the year. Shannon confirmed that he has met several clubs and Brisbane 'three times'. When my son asked who he would prefer to be drafted by, Shannon said us.

Grain of salt stuff I guess, but according to the kid himself we are at least doing the due diligence and for his part he at least has some interest in us. By all accounts he is a fine citizen also and reasonably level headed.

We'll see in a couple weeks what transpires.

I guess all ruck draftees like their chances of displacing Archie Smith and getting a chance in their rookie year.

Archie will be ready and up for the fight in 2021 !!!! Bring it on !!!

(setting myself up for another year of Archie breaking through #CmonArchie )

I’d genuinely love to post some FB screenshots right now.
