I'm confused, is it 1 in 100, or 18 each year? Because both can't be correct.

Sorry I didn't quite put that right - bad me. It is 1 in 100 after pick 35 that bit was right.

Then

Of the top 40 picks in the draft each year whom go on to be 'successful'

2008- 22
2009- 19
2010- 15
2011- 19
2012- 10
2013- 18
2114- 15
2015- 21
2106- 19

so about 18 each year.

In 2106 they'll all be robots anyway.

Matt Balmer has Us linked to Tom Highmore in he’s phantom draft on the Fox Footy website
I'd never heard of him before today but from my scant research Highmore(mature age 22) is more a 3rd tall/rebound defender type eg. James Sicily.

We already have great 3rd defender in Gardiner

What do you mean by tall defender?

He's not a key defender. He won't be playing on key forwards. He's more of an intercepting defender/distributor

We also have Charlie Cameron so why draft Coleman?

He reads more like a replacement possibility for Grant Birchall/Ryan Lester than Gardiner.

Interestingly, Sam Walsh has stated before that it would be his dream to play at AFL level with his brother. Considering the Fitzroy link with his family and his passionate support of the Lions growing up, I wonder if he might consider a move up here one day if we drafted his brother.
I thought Sam was too vanilla and not damaging enough for most on here?

I assume many would change their tune if Sam did come north; assuming the Lions did draft his brother.

FWIW, I like Sam a lot as a player irrespective of what some say about him on the Lions board.

Sounds like someones description of Lachie Neale after we picked him up......

I quite like vanilla.

With the draft tomorrow and our first pick at 25 which will be pushed back to early 30's i thought i would post the picks up to 32 since 1981

Click on the Red pick number and you can see who was picked at that number back to 1981.

Basically the lower pick number you are the higher games average surprise surprise. However you are more likely given early games at lower ranked clubs to give you a chance to show what you have got to offer. This possibly inflates the average number. But no doubt the clubs have got better at judging talent.
Pick 6 & 13 stand out.
Pick 6 not great overall. Had a good patch 2007 to 2012 (Myers 123 games, Yarran 119, Rohan 144, Wingard,178 & Macrae 159)
More recent 2013 to 2019 okay but jury still out on some (M Scharenberg 41, Marchbank 48, Francis 35, Petrevski-Seton 80, Stephenson 54, Ben King 31 & McAsey 10)
Pick 13 looks reasonably impressive overall but from 2008 not so great
Bad picks- L Johnson 10, Lucas Cook 0, K Jaksch 14, B Lennon 21,
So so picks- Kane Lucas 42, Corey Ellis 32
Better picks- Docherty 108, Jy Simpkin 73, C Curnow 58,
Still early days- D Fogerty 24, Z Butters 36, K Pickett 14.

Imagine people changing their opinions like some have about Witherden.

Your absolute hypocrisy is ridiculous.

I love the lift in average games for pick 29 which is where Twomey has our pick.

So it's kinda for picks 1 to 5 your on a winner - after that it gets a bit more difficult and starts to drop away.

Sorry mate, but I think you're absolutely misremembering things. I remember the majority on here quite excited by the prospect of drafting. It's possible that as the year went on and we started winning a few games at the same time as Walsh's stocks improving, a few may have started talking him down to lessen their emotional loss at not being able to draft him.

I think you are too; mate.

Would love to get Sam Walsh to the Lions.
If getting his Brother here in anyway helps that cause? Why not?
